I do love scooters. I can get super swiftly through traffic on them and I can honestly say, I ride them better than I do motorcycles. I get very excited to test new ones. And man, the Xoom looks fresh. Everyone at MotorInc took a second look at it while it was on test with us. Small niggles side, I really enjoyed riding it too, although it became clear that Hero's missed a trick or two in creating it too. Like I read somewhere that a fuel filler cap on the tail unit would mess with the clean lines. But there are scooter with filler caps on the front apron too. But I kept returning to the big picture the more I rode. Indian automotive history says products that take on market leaders without sufficient differentiation tend not to get beyond a certain level of sales over their lifecycle. And increasingly, it seems normal to accept that once you have X% of the market leader's sales, you're doing well. But tell me this: shouldn't brands be thinking more ambitiously and focussing on differentiating the products further instead? Oh and just to clarify, the numbers of sales/market shares I used for the story are all from February 2023 because March and April numbers have movements upwards and downwards as the arrival of BS6 Phase II vehicles interfered with production and sales across segments. This is probably because brands tapered off production to control dealer inventories for the April 1 transition, and in April, some brands took a week or two to start delivering BS6-II units.
After booking my conti gt I took test drive of a few scooters too, as the delivery period of conti was too long, and I needed something more practical too. The only thing I liked about xoom is the looks though. Ended up buying jupiter 125 for the practical bits and its riding dynamics.
my only concern would be, if going to buy in a hero showroom, would they make the same designed scooter for next 10 years?? so that there would be no problems in parts. plastic body here and there, design is definitely not timeless!
Valid concern and no answer that we can give at this time. How long will this design last, what problems will people face are all unknowns unfortunately.
There was a time when Hero was the second largest scooter seller in India after Honda..Then came TVS,Suzuki,Yamaha all with so many good models and Hero was just sitting idle happy on splendor sales..I think the way they did with Vida and Xoom Hero may be late to the party but surely they are trying to concentrate on scooters as well which is a good thing..
Well said! Shumi does feel that trying to keep up is a failing strategy though and Hero needs a disruptor that does something _wildly_ different from the norm
Recently, I had that itch to upgrade my 2009 Honda Aviator. 125 cc seemed to be the decent default choice instead of the almost similarly priced 110 cc. Took test drives of Activa 110, Activa 125, Grazia 125, Ntorq, Access, Burgman, Jupiter and Fascino. Gave a good thought about everything and shortlisted Activa 125, Burgman, Jupiter and Fascino. Activa 125 seemed too dull eventually and the sales outlets didn't even care to sell the product...more like "Yeh Activa hai, le jao". Jupiter with its bottom mounted fuel tank would have always ended up with anxiety over bumps and pot holes. Burgman is basically Access with a body kit (which I liked!)....and the wild card Fascino, although quite stiff, seemed fun. Finally it was Burgman v/s Fascino, a fight which Burgman won hands down in the excel sheet I had created 😂. But then I gave a good thought about investing approx. 1.2 lakhs on the Burgman. Eventually ended up spending 6000 on my Aviator. New tyres and all filters, lubricants and oils changed properly. Has been 6 months now and I still choose my 2009 Aviator amongst a 6 vehicle garage as my default short cruising option.

Recently bought Hero XOOM ZX top end for family minimal usage. I am impressed by the design and a few aesthetics (Great job Hero). It's been a month and am impressed with the performance, maintenance, mileage(50+km/l), and riding experience. As you said, it would gain more traction and numbers if there was a 125cc option. Great video with fantastic editing, script, and presentation Shumi:)
I have been riding HX 110 since June 2023. I got the top end model in the red and black combination. I have a mixed experience until now. Firstly the design is great and there is no doubt about it, secondly the HX provides a good mileage. I have been getting 40+ kmpl until now. The led DRLs looks very attractive and are bright. However there are few things you should know if you are planning to buy this scooter. It has a lot of vibration in low speeds. You will feel the vibration on the footboard and on the handle bars, to add to it the grunty noise when you try to rev it get past the low speeds and then the vibrations and noise seems to slowly fade out. The engine definitely needs refinement, the vibration is to that extent that you might sometime feel not to ride this anymore or just live with it. The underseat space is not pratical, as you can only keep a half helmet. Cornering lights are not that useful to be honest. The fuel tank is under the seat along with the lid, so you have to open your seat everytime you have to refill, that is a inconvenience to me. The front disk brakes have a lot less bite than i would have loved. Overall this might be a good option for many buyers with the sporty looks and design, but personally I would not recommend buying HX 110 only becuase of its engine lacks refinement which detoriates your riding experience. By the way you guys are doing an awesome job. The presentation, detailing, background audio, editing ( the subtle sarcastic criticism) is just top notch. Best automobile reviewers in YT.

I have purchased this scooter and I am using it from last 1 year. Everything I like about this scooter, but not the engine. It's engine has sound even at 10 km/h and increases as you will increase the speed. And I have ridden activa as well and it is so smooth. As we know, engine is the brain of vehicle, so one should not compromise with the engine quality. Conclusion - don't go with hero xoom, go with either activa or Jupiter.
It looks like an Avenis which people say looks like an Ntorq, WHICH people say look like a Honda Dio. (based on my months researching what to buy after settling for a black Avenis) Point being.. I guess sporty scooters can't really do much form factor wise; kind of like how all smartphones look the same'ish and you should gauge what you want based on performance and utility as much as you can.
The past month sales of Xoom was about 13k+ and when it came it was only 1k. And it managed to take over the sales of Burgman and Ray125. What expect from hero is to launch Xoom 125 with 3valve head. Another suggestion is to move the fuel tank to the footrest board like what we see in Jupiter 125. Because it will give more space to the under seat storage(which is one of the problem of Xoom) and the fueling at the front is always better than the rear for me(the left end pocket at the front seems unnecessary though). For this they have to work on the board and have to increase its size which will eventually make more space at the front(two mangoes in one shot). Also then hero won't have to compromise the rear end design.
Simple and sober is what people go for when buying a scooty it seems. Activa and jupiter are elegantly designed, after years, one cannot see the difference in design. Same as vw polo. I dont even know how many scooters hero have come up with.

It'd be great if you could mention how good is the review vehicle for people of different stature. I have a feeling that this looks bigger than it actually is.
My toxic bias towards bikes will prevent me from getting a scooter. Scooters are practical, easy to ride; I agree. No matter how good a scooter is, my mind say "but it's not a bike". Scooters present an interesting proposition in the present day market where a performance-oriented 150CC bike sits at 1.3-1.5 lakhs at a minimum. And let’s not forget the comfort of life features most scooters come with, like underseat storage and footwell space and actual pillion seat space. And maintenance is relatively easy as well. So it’s more down to the rider’s choices and needs.

Hey Guys love your videos. I am going to start my first riding experience soon. I am looking for a good helmet under 8k. I learned the basics of getting a good helmet from your prev videos. But still I thought if you can give me some options. I have looked into MT helmets , thunder pro 3 to be specific. Do let me know your thoughts. Cheers !!
hero lags in build quality i have personally owned a maestro and its just feel like a kids cycle and i after that I moved to activa and i know it doesnt have feature and it do the work for which it is used
If you want to make it look sporty then make it sporty these half measures don’t work quite as well. It’s like making a hunting knife and finishing it like a butter knife. I don’t understand why motorcycle manufacturers don’t go into a concept with both feet in it. Ntorq and Aerox being an exception.
I am in big confusion..... whether to sell my current hornet 160r to buy tvs ntorq... thinking will i be missing any major advantage of a bike over 125cc scooter... main reason to switch is for riding comfort as my major use case is typical (Indian) city commuting. Please share opinion.....
U may end up gettin back pain ridin on scooters! Only added benefit is storage. Scooters can't match comfort levels because bikes have better suspension & bigger wheels. Mileage will also be less.
You cannot upgrade comfort by going from a bike to a scooter Creed. You can upgrade ease of use and utility at best. Look at the new 160s and 200s. They've got even better suspension and they might offer you more comfort than the Ntorq.
First of all , previous hero scooters used to have cheap quality plastic and body frame. Even worse than Honda at times. Why a subcontinent market is still using black seats and carbon colored hard plastic ?? Suzuki comes to the resuce with beige and coffee brown seating which are much more comfortable in this 45 degree heat. F nobody pays attention to this small detail .
Please avoid buying Xoom scooter. I have been using it. Too many quality issues. Handle wobbling, seat lock not working, brake cable holder broken, battery discharge frequently, too much engine noise, too much vibrations . Now I feel like selling it and regret buying it
It is! Check the forums -- it's been around for ages so you should be able to get a clear picture of how reliable they are etc. They Suzuki 250s are good bikes to ride, slightly dull, but very good. Suzuki service is a bit iffy though
I think they should looks at scooters in Indonesia, bigger boot space better features, why can't anyone have a bigger boot space except Jupiter 125? I'm waiting for a scooter to launch with that feature
The J125 moved the fuel tank under the floorboard (where EV scooter batteries sit) and that released the space. Until other makers redesigned the chassis, a larger boot is hard to do for the rest
@@motorinc if you see the new launches in the East Asian countries, all brands Honda Yamaha and Suzuki have multiple options big boot, front filling, lcd dash and here we are stuck with 15 yr old design with only cosmetic upgrades like graphics on the body
Topgear india back in the day had a few pages at the end of each issue with a brief editorial on each vehicle in the market. It's great that you folks are doing the same in video form, but an easily accessible site/page somewhere with this opinions, that would be great!

So it’s more down to the rider’s choices and needs.
Spot on! Scooters do so many things well for sure!
I still think that fuel cap should be in the boot rather than near taillight.
We need more scooter reviews from Shumi🤩
Coming soon!
Sumi, pls create a short vid about Meteor 350 buying in 2023 , pros and cons. specially over Classic 350.
Coming soon!
Also please make video on Jawa Yezdi also
"Resale value" is big factor which drives the sales.....nothing else matters......
It certainly is a big factor but it shouldn't be the only reason to buy a scooter. There is so much more to them.
Great content quality, keep it up guys 👍
Thank you 🙌
When will be the Dominar 400 2023 version review will be out???waiting to get yours opinion on that before finalizing the product. Thank you. Hope you see this.
Hey Bhushan, we're not in a position to offer you a timeline for when a story might release, unfortunately. We'll get to the Domi when we can in a video. But the short version of our opinion of the Domi is pretty clear -- we don't like how it feels to ride and we don't recommend buying one.
@@motorinc then which bike will you suggest me??
@motorinc pls make vid on triumph and harley new launches
Hey Guys love your videos. I am going to start my first riding experience soon. I am looking for a good helmet under 8k. I learned the basics of getting a good helmet from your prev videos. But still I thought if you can give me some options. I have looked into MT helmets , thunder pro 3 to be specific. Do let me know your thoughts. Cheers !!
That last hmm was unexpected but lovely 😅..
Can't say "cute" anymore😂😂
Ahaha!
First time seeing Shumi in Beard and so gently explaining 😅 surprised!
Welcome to MotorInc! Do see our (his?) other videos too!
@@motorinc sure!
@@motorinc we need older bike reviews too! If possible can you guys do the review of Hero Honda Hunk?? 😍
If we can find a pristine bike!
@@motorinc thats to sweet of guys... Hopefully you will find it... 😍
hero lags in build quality i have personally owned a maestro and its just feel like a kids cycle and i after that I moved to activa and i know it doesnt have feature and it do the work for which it is used
Thanks for letting us know!
Y no video’s about Dominar 400? Is it not a worth machine?
Sir do you think scooters should get manual gearbox with cluth like that of a bike so that riders could get that thrill? 🤔
No one would buy it. Scooters remain a utility oriented thing in India. No one's looking to change gears on it that we know of
Words on the street: hero zoom 125cc coming soon!❤
Kindly make a video regarding the BMW G310 GS.
Whether its worth in 2023 or not.
Hey. We can try making a video on it as soon as possible.
@@motorinc Thanks for the response.
Love your content.
How about the performance in hills
I have never ridden Aprilia Scooters but I want to knw why they are never into consideration whn it comes to sporty Scooters😂😅
HX 125 Sounds Good 🔥
HX250 sounds better!
@@motorinc 😌🔥
If you want to make it look sporty then make it sporty these half measures don’t work quite as well. It’s like making a hunting knife and finishing it like a butter knife. I don’t understand why motorcycle manufacturers don’t go into a concept with both feet in it. Ntorq and Aerox being an exception.
Spot on! Wholehearted purpose always produces superior experiences than let's over our bases
The exact reason honda maintains big wing showrooms, they dont want other bikes to get lost in activas🤣
😂
I am in big confusion..... whether to sell my current hornet 160r to buy tvs ntorq... thinking will i be missing any major advantage of a bike over 125cc scooter... main reason to switch is for riding comfort as my major use case is typical (Indian) city commuting. Please share opinion.....
U may end up gettin back pain ridin on scooters!
Only added benefit is storage.
Scooters can't match comfort levels because bikes have better suspension & bigger wheels.
Mileage will also be less.
@@The.Dark.Knight. 👍
You cannot upgrade comfort by going from a bike to a scooter Creed. You can upgrade ease of use and utility at best. Look at the new 160s and 200s. They've got even better suspension and they might offer you more comfort than the Ntorq.
@@motorinc thanks 👍
SHUMI, a neutral review and good presentation
Thank you!
Sundays with Shumi ❤
♥️
Any new Maxi Scooters expected? When is the Xoom 160 expected??
Make a video on Aprilia sir
First of all , previous hero scooters used to have cheap quality plastic and body frame. Even worse than Honda at times. Why a subcontinent market is still using black seats and carbon colored hard plastic ?? Suzuki comes to the resuce with beige and coffee brown seating which are much more comfortable in this 45 degree heat. F nobody pays attention to this small detail .
Could you make a video on FZs v4?
Was to buy Suzuki Avenis, simply bcoz its the best looking in its segment and not as dull as Activa...but now i thnk i should wait for Xoom 125r
Get the Avenis! It’s the better scooter!
can you guys make an comparison video with scooters like activa, Jupiter and access. just like that 3 ev scooter video please 😁
Can do! Short version:
100-110cc choice: Activa (safe purchase). Xoom (great, reliability unknown) Jupiter (safe purchase, best)
125s: Access 125 (best, safe purchase, family). Ntorq (best sporty)
Bigger : Aerox (Smashing! stiff suspension)
Electric: Ather 450X Top model (expensive! Great), iQube S (Safe family purchase)
@@motorinc thank you ♥️
What about per lt I think it should makes difference?
🤔
Please avoid buying Xoom scooter. I have been using it. Too many quality issues. Handle wobbling, seat lock not working, brake cable holder broken, battery discharge frequently, too much engine noise, too much vibrations . Now I feel like selling it and regret buying it
Oh god. That sounds terrible. Would you like us to try and help?
Please tell us it okay to buy Suzuki sf 250
It is! Check the forums -- it's been around for ages so you should be able to get a clear picture of how reliable they are etc. They Suzuki 250s are good bikes to ride, slightly dull, but very good. Suzuki service is a bit iffy though
Indian brands can try affordable maxi scooters with say 160-200cc engines. I feel there is a market for those here.
We agree!
What is the mileage?
I think they should looks at scooters in Indonesia, bigger boot space better features, why can't anyone have a bigger boot space except Jupiter 125? I'm waiting for a scooter to launch with that feature
The J125 moved the fuel tank under the floorboard (where EV scooter batteries sit) and that released the space. Until other makers redesigned the chassis, a larger boot is hard to do for the rest
@@motorinc exactly, need some innovative in this dull scooter market, where we didn't see any innovative features since their launch.
Absolutely.
@@motorinc if you see the new launches in the East Asian countries, all brands Honda Yamaha and Suzuki have multiple options big boot, front filling, lcd dash and here we are stuck with 15 yr old design with only cosmetic upgrades like graphics on the body
@@kalyand25Aerox is very good I own one
Topgear india back in the day had a few pages at the end of each issue with a brief editorial on each vehicle in the market. It's great that you folks are doing the same in video form, but an easily accessible site/page somewhere with this opinions, that would be great!
Thanks for the suggestion!
Hi it's good to see your other videos You guys are always awesome. Clean and share videos.
Thanks guys 🙂
I am planning to buy an Avenger 160 correct me if I am wrong. My usage in Chennai City is 40% and out of the city 60% not a regular driven but bare minimum weekly 150 km I will drive.
I am 6' feet with 100+ weight. I felt more comfortable ( except the seat) and more convenient while driving. Only drawback have to plan earlier for u turns ☹️
When are you making a video on the meteor 350?
Very soon! We're a small team and things take time 🤷🏽♂️
@@motorinc Good to know it’s coming soon…. I’m checking your channel daily for newer reviews…. It’s detailed but minimalist…. Just the way I like it…. Anyway thank you for making these videos and being connected to the community at such a level ♥️ wishing you all a successful year 💥
You're so welcome!
Shumi is looking like George Clooney’s Bruce Wayne from the movie ‘The Flash’.
I think TVS Ntorq Has started Trend of sporty scooter in India
At the very least, it was the first scooter that was serious about being sporty for sure
Waiting for hero xtreme 160r 4v review from motorinc!!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉❤️❤️❤️❤️
As soon as we can get to it!
A new style of reviewing ❤
♥️
That design in a 125 at or slightly above the Jupiter's price ? Hero might have their hero.
What should i buy hero xoom or jupiter 110cc
Jupiter.
None of the scooters in India have a half decent suspension. If every scooter makes a hard suspension, everyone would always want to choose a bike over it
"It's a decent option in a market full of decent options" how wonderful
😊
external fuel lid is a BIG miss
Yes for sure
Can you make video on Jupiter, Activa, access
We can!
Man I need a scooter again, bored of shifting gears in Bangalore
Aerox/Ntorq/450X for fun
Access125/Jupiter/iQube S for practicality
♥️
