- In this episode, we interview Ira Self (Durham, North Carolina) featuring his fearless 1987 Chevy Caprice Classic and what it’s like being the Boostdoctor.
First, Ira discusses how to build a name in the world of big wheel racing.
We’ll look at his Box Chevy Caprice build. Ira tells us about his Chevy Caprice LS swap engine build, which puts out 1400hp and additional performance and cosmetic upgrades.
Next, we get to know the man behind the wheel as Ira opens up to us about his passion for racing and the influence his father had on him when he was a young boy.
Then we transition into the big race, where Ira made his name as the Boostdoctor, setting the internet world on fire as he took down the “bad boy of donk racing”, Donkmaster.
As the interview continues, Ira opens up about his family and shares with us how proud he is of his kids and well as how much he loves his wife.
Finally, Ira wraps up the interview of how he gets motivation from the most unlikely source, his haters.
This interview is our best one yet, featuring the man most people title “Box King” while others know him as the Boostdoctor.

I remember when I was delivering up in Raleigh and I met boost doctor at a gas station with his car on the trailer, this man is humble asf, he gave me some wisdom on the racing game and I thank him for that

Never personally met the man, but I can say it is a sight to be seen when he is at the track! I remember freaky fridays at fayettnam seeing the rotaryota. It sounds like world war 3 is starting at the start line then the tree drops and all you see is the bottom side of that little corolla riding out the 60ft! One time I remember the box chevy launched so hard the damn passenger side door opened up!

Well you gotta think about this some of them don’t know nothing about they car but pay ppl to build and work on they donk, that can damn near run 9’s in the Quarter an pay a good driver to race it so they can make money, an yes get fam off it, so they can start hosting events an all different types of stuff. It’s not just about fam I could be a millionaire watching Donkracing saying hmm well I don’t want to race them an I don’t really know how to build them Shid I’ll just pay to have it built right, pay somebody to race it, an then just be setting up races for me 30k,20k,60k but don’t shit about the car other then year make an model

Ira is really a cool guy! I remember him racing his camaro, the yoto and now I luv his box chevy. I actually got to ride in the box before he started big wheel racing when it was a single turbo ls with a blow-thru carb. Reason I got to ride? He drove it from Durham to my buddy house in Wilson, we went for a ride to a local engine builders shop, then back to my buddy house where he took the engine and turbo stuff out and sold it to him. Next thing we know he's sporting twins and fuel injected. Congrats on all the success bro!
