It really brought back memories. I had a 1964 Impala SS that I drove around in the small town that I still live in. We had about a ten mile course that you just drove around and around. It was a good way to meet girls.
I couldn't make it this year,iv been depressed all week lol family is worried,I get crazy without my car trips, I will be there next year for sure, hell or high water I'm going,
Love the color scheme on the '59 Chevy. I was in the Birmingham area and the classics just kept on coming. First time being at the Woodward cruise. It was a blast!
Hey Howard! I remember the Woodward nightmare er dream Cruise from 40 something years ago when I lived up there! Probably seen you back then! My girlfriend and I would go up there in my 65 1/2 Ford LTD cruise the strip!! of course with a few smoky burnouts here in there! This brings back a lot of memories for me! Your 59 Chevys looking good buddy ! Kind of wish I still had that old Ford !Thanks for sharing!🙈👍🏻🫡🇺🇸
I finally remember the concert I went to see at the Silverdome. Bruce Springsteen and I also remember it being a great concert! Anyway, thanks Howard for letting me ride along with you. Maybe next year I'll be able to have my Belair out too. I always enjoy my visits with you. It was a great day.
Maybe.... It was the 74 XL250 he photographed. I rode it around a lot during the cruise evenings, as it's much easer to get around and very easy to find parking for it, plus its great on gas milage.
Late year it was the Mustangs and Corvettes, this year was the year of the Luxury Cars and "Look-Alikes" Mercury, Chrysler, Buicks, Lincoln, Cadillac, and those Lincoln looking Thunderbirds. One black guy had a Cream color WildCat. There were many Grand Nationals in Black. There were two 59 Cadillac Series 62s one in Tiffany blue and another in Copper Penny color. Sweeet! The friendly Chargers give me a history lesson 😁and I saw a Black R/T Charger 70 like Dom's without the blower! There were from Iowa was a R/T Charger 69 with white Bumblebee Stripe. Last year's Challenger Cars turned to Javelin Cars! At least for me. 🤣 The are bigger and have lower headlights and massive duck tails. 😄
Some dream cars for sure. Back in 1970 I bought a deceent drivable 59 Belair four door for $25. The license plates for it cost me $15.. I noticed Cannabis signs everywhere there. (From Ohio) Wow! times have changed.
Yeah, that was the era when fins were out.... No one wanted a 59 Chevy. I remember seeing decent ones on the salvage yards. There is seven Cannabis stores within a walk from my house! Who would have ever thought......
I finally got out there around 11am. Went from 12 mile to Pontiac and back. Wide track was jammed when I got there! Hit some rain too, only to find out my wipers are INOP! lol another project this winter hopefully. Overall a great time, another Dream Cruise for the books.
After looking, I remember seeing everyone in the median..... I think it's the best cruising early, because all the cars are out to get their preferred parking spots..... and you can still somewhat move, though slowly in some places. By 11:30ish people walking are moving faster than traffic.
@@OldCarAlley Absolutely! We knew the rain was coming at some point so I said its best we get out there real early💪🏾 Usually we hit Woodward at about 3 the day of and stay till 10
At exactly 45:51 in...THE WORLD-FAMOUS HUNTER HOUSE HAMBURGER place, ( the small-ish white structure on your right ). Best burgers on Planet Earth bar none !!! 'Too bad the old Albans and DQ directly across the street didn't seem to make it though. 'Amazing what 55 + years ago looked like then and today. Hunter House needs to be placed on a Historical map, (of sorts), and live forever.
The cruise is not in Detroit, it's in Ferndale, Pleasant Ridge, Royal Oak, Birmingham, Blomfield Hills and Pontiac. The cruisers park along Woodward where you can walk along and see them. It's a great cruise, the largest auto event in the world. You're missing out on seeing amazing cars, some are ultra rare. If it has tires, it's on Woodward for the Dream Cruise.
MAN !!! what a difference 50, ( +/-) years makes. I (thankfully) moved out of the area back in '77 thinking it was only a matter of time before 6 mile would move North and encroach / destroy the "Burbs". 'Kinda glad to see that not happening but with all your "Winter", slate grey skies and crime, I SERIOUSLY BELIEVE that I made the right call. I ask one VERY serious question though, that being should you even "THINK' about vacationing or moving to HHI / Bluffton, SC, that you re-consider as our traffic problems are 10 times worse than "Dream Cruise" on a bad day. No joke intended. I hear Myrtle Beach, SC, Orlando, FL, Miami is nice, but 'PULLEESE" stay away from Hilton Head Island / Bluffton, SC O.K. ?
Detroit has made a complete turnaround. You wouldn't even recognize it if you have not been here for the past 15 or 20 year or so. Property values are nuts in the suburbs just north of Detroit too. I lived in Savannah, Ga. and missed the seasons big time. I'm one of those rare ones that don't mind the Michigan winters.
At 4:33 in... Does anybody have any history on the old Royal Oak Ford Dealership when it was called "Stark Hickey Ford"? I used to work there when I was a kid back in the early 70's as a "Car Hop"? Ed and his brother Rick Schonner / Shannor, (or somethings like that), used to own / run the place. During my time there, I had the unknowing opportunity to work with a "new-hire" there by the name of Al, (or Alan), Frey, (younger brother of Glen). We used to sit in my '66 Mustang at lunch "huffing" weed when one day he, (Al), asked me if I had ever heard of a band called "The Eagles", and I responded "the whaa"? NOPE ! Never heard of 'em. You'll get the rest. Oh, and Coral Gables used to be directly across Woodward. What fun we had...but mostly dreary BS in a shitty little job.
I don't know any history of the dealer, though I take our Ford vehicles there for oil changes, as it's cheaper to have them do it than doing it myself, plus they rotate the tires.
Yeah, I remember Stark Hickey running factory 1964 Farlane Thunderbolts and later A/fx Mustangs that were built by Holman-Moody, not too shabby. I was a kid from Jersey and Detroit and the midwest was a hotbed for super stockers with the Ramchargers, Royal Pontiac, Nickey Chevrolet, Mr Norm's, and all the rest. Stark Hickey was a force to be reckoned with if you ran S/S.
BTW, great coverage Howard, those Fender Rockets took me back to my family's new 1959 Parkwood wagon, purchased from Girard Chevrolet, beige with bronze interior, in the family 1959 to 1967. I still miss it!
@@customkey Yep thats why I purchased it back in 1978.... My folks had a 59 Parkwood too. It was so sad for me as a little kid seeing it traded in for a 66 Ford Country Sedan. That Parkwood got me hooked on 59 Chevy's!...... Though I do like 66 Ford's also.
Premium has been going up in price as regular gas has come down in price. The Bel Air will tolerate 91 octane, but it's still $5.10 here. Last gas stop 93 was $5.85......
@@OldCarAlleyUnfortunately my car requires 93 premium. My owners manual says 91 is ok in a pinch but shouldn't be a regular thing. 87 is a no no except in a dire emergency and should be replaced with 93 as soon as possible. Running 87 long term will void my engine warranty. It's a 2023 Toyota GR86.

Nice video of Saturday Morning. I think I saw my SSR at about the 11:00 mark on time. The video shows that way too many current cars & trucks. Most of the classics are parked. The cost to park along Woodward Ave. started at $40 bucks. Then some of the parking was for all day. If you left? Pay another $40 plus. I saw one place south of Ferndale advertised for a building & parking for 3 days was $1500.00.
Don’t you think that so called gravel isn’t remnants of flares
You know what..... I bet thats exactly what it is! I'll take a closer look next year.
