      @@toogoodforaname4041 are you implying that good men aren't badasses? In the face of adversity, the individual still does a noble act and is selfless despite facing an impending doom for the greater good. Most men would turn tail, but this young man stood his ground and saved innocents that he just recently met. He's a badass in my book. San is just angry at the world because her "mother" hates humans and instilled her ideals in a baby she had pity for.

      I would suggest you watch a video called "Lady Eboshi is Wrong". This movie has even more nuance than you might think. It finds empathy in all characters and sides, but still picks a side in the conflict. It's all about "seeing with eyes unclouded" through moral relativism, while still understanding how hate poisons everyone. It's a perfect movie imo

    What's interesting is that the word "Mononoke" is a word the Japanese used to call the collection of monsters and spirits. So, the Japanese title "Mononoke-Hime" literally means San is seen by the humans in the story as the "Princess of the Spirits/Monsters". Only the humans actually call her by that title; Ashitaka calls her by name after he found out about her true name and the gods also refer to her as San. This means that because she's usually the person intervening for the forest, the humans saw her as the figure embodying or representing all those monsters outside their Iron Town rather than an actual person with a real name.

      @@oldskoolnp5512 Disney did not produce the movie, but distributed it in the US and initially was very insisting on making changes to the movie, to make it more in line with Disney princess stories and more approachable by what they believed was an average american viewer. In short, they wanted to cut some scenes and change dialogues, so characters get more clear motivations and became more easily recognisable as "good" or "bad". Ghibli did not let them cut anything, but Neil Gaiman, who was responsible for the script, had to write off some lines and add some others (although he was keeping Ghibli's side all the time, just to make it clear; he just had no choice). As a result, if you watch the movie with english dub you believe that monk Jigo was working on Emperors behalf, which is not the case, but because Americans like to blame state and government for everything bad that happens it kinda made sense in American context.

      They're not comparable. Mozart and Beethoven are part of a very old and compositionally complex tradition of art music, "music for its own sake," which film composers like Joe Hisaishi draw on as they compose the scores to movies like this one. Still, a lot of art music composers since the 20th century, like Dmitri Shostakovich, also composed film scores, in fact Shostakovich mostly made a living from his film scores!

    • @behindthemaestrosdesk
      @behindthemaestrosdesk ปีที่แล้ว

      @@dsch0 Of course I know that the composers compose music complete differently, these two people changed music history. In fact, they truly created music. Joe Hisaishi gets inspired by Beethoven and Mozart in a lot of his work, as he’s said so. And without them, basically most of the music we hear now, wouldn’t exist. And yes.. I understand that Joe Hisaishi is century’s ahead in music. These people literally created the music art form, I was being enthusiastic when writing this comment. And if we’re talking about schools, I do believe alongside learning Beethoven and Mozart, there’s many music artists from this generation that we learn from. I think we should learn more from composers who write film scores, because there’s many astonishing composers like Joe Hisaishi. All of Ghibli’s films are truly masterpieces, along with there music.
