Blue is still my favorite album after all these years, and I don't actively dislike any Weezer album, just have different degrees of appreciation. I look at my fellow Weezer fans, old and new, and sense much anger in many of them lol. It's never been that bad, it's mostly been nice.
I love Maladroit as much as the next guy, but I also completely understand why it's so forgotten. There's no real obvious "hit single", the cover art is pretty bland, and just in general it lacks an emotional core or theme to tie it all together. It's just a mix tape of really good, short rock tunes, but there's just really not much to dissect from it. Another banger video, by the way.
i love maladroit due to the emotional impact it’s had on me. Yes most of the songs bleed together but like the lyrics hurt. But also emotional attachment to art will always muddy the waters. I love crying to death and destruction
The trouble with maladroit is that while the highs are some of the most unique in the Weezer pantheon, they’re far outnumbered by the meh material. Burndt Jamb means a lot to me, since the structure and melody resembles something I’d do, so it told me that my half cobbled goofball music isn’t alone.

Probably the Blue Album, to be honest. It left such an impact on the music scene at the time, and it contains many of Weezer's most iconic songs. Even some of the non-singles like "My Name is Jonas," "In the Garage" and "Only in Dreams" are very popular. The album seems to have helped revive the power pop genre too. It's even more impressive when you consider that this is their debut album. It's very rare for a debut album to be this good.
I’m gonna say it! Maladroit is one of their top 3 albums. Yes we can argue that it’s boring and it bleeds together. But it’s a new-age pinkerton revival. It’s dirty but clean. It’s raw and painful. It’s loud and crunchy. It’s everything weezer fans desire. Honestly such a powerful and sad album.

The loud and crunchy is very metal influenced but the melodies try to be popy and that should work for Weezer but it just doesn't for me. Red has always held a special place in my heart. I genuinely think it’s a perfect album and was the turning point I think where Weezer started to get more “experimental” with their sound. There isn’t a single song on Red that sounds the same, and to me, it’s pretty impressive that they did that and made an album of such high quality. Everything is mixed gorgeously and I think Red is one of the best sounding Weezer albums. My favorite songs on Red are Greatest Man, Pork and Beans, Dreamin’, The Angel and the One, and if we’re including bonus tracks, Pig.
Came here to say the same. Red is the album where "fans" should have recognized Weezer was a band closer to The Beatles or Queen in terms of evolution and musicianship. My only complaint is that they didn't continue making albums with all members singing, it seems like a waste of opportunity.

I feel the same way, every album outside of the greats has at least a few amazing tracks. Raditude has if you're wondering, let it all hang out, and don't wanna let you go for example. Sure there's cringy lyrics in let it all hang out but it's a really fun song which excuses it to me. Almost all of their albums have that quality to me, even if not amazing they're enjoyable

What'll be interesting in the next vid is seeing how goddamn low Make Believe is compared to much worse records, simply because of context. The initial "betrayal" will always hurt more than eye-rolling disappointments like Pacific Daydream or Black (my pick for worst). Make Believe is somehow...underrated.
Make Believe is pretty low tier to me but I dislike Black a lot more because other than the first three tracks which are good, the album feels boring, uninteresting, safe and bland, yet Rivers tried so hard to sell it as unique, and fresh, and reaaaaally experimental for a band like Weezer with this annoying ass "yeah we do what we wanna do fuck the haters!" attitude
I can see why Pacific Daydream can be seen as bad but honestly I think it's a fun listen, and compared to the godawful shit other bands like Green Day have been putting out in recent years, it feels somewhat tame in comparison. I think it could've been way better if it was produced by anyone but Butch Walker tho
Black is a solid album if you tune out literally anything rivers said before hand. But its fair if you don't like it, it's a weird ass album. In my opinion by describing the album's he's setting himself up to fail because he never really does a good job explaining what they really sound like. i always find myself alone in my weezer taste cause i really like Blue, Pinkerton, Maladroit, Red and White (kinda) and i'm pretty meh on everything else.
My favorite album is Blue. For me personally their debut is the best Weezer album due to the high concentration of great songs, with my personal favorite being “No One Else”. However, there is no songs on this album that I actually dislike.
In the wake of Kurt's death, 13 y/o me didn't know where to go... Green Day came first for me, Weezer promptly followed. I felt like I was enjoying quite a buffet as an alterna-teen. It's all aged differently for me though as I trim the fat that is nostalgia and just like what I like regardless of the age I was or whatever. These days, revisiting my teenage taste usually favors Pavement or Sonic Youth... or Wu Tang Clan. Anyway, my Weezer top 5, that's all I'm going with here: 5. Green (simple, memorable) 4. Maladroit (most adventurous and muscular) 3. White (solid pop crafting and definable) 2. Pinkerton (overrated... and still second best) 1. Blue (the sum of all, in virgin form)

I know a lot of people feel that Green hasn't aged well... but I find White to be more of an extension of it than the rest. Time moves on and away, as it should, but White has the pop charm that has always been there from the start. It's not really taking any risks but it's fun and solid... in my opinion.

Blue is an Alt Rock classic, one of the best records of the 90's because it had a different flavour to rock of the time, was produced fantastically (heavier than most metal records) and had an underlying vulnerability underneath it's messaging. However, not my favourite, my favourite is Pinkerton because it's just so honest, raw and rough and came to me at my lowest point when I was teenager and I can honestly say it saved my life. Thanks Weezer, very cool

God, Christmas with Weezer and Red album is what made me a Weezer fan since I was 3. They may not be up here, but it's such a nostalgic sound to me.

What'll be interesting in the next vid is seeing how goddamn low Make Believe is compared to much worse records, simply because of context. The initial "betrayal" will always hurt more than eye-rolling disappointments like Pacific Daydream or Black (my pick for worst). Make Believe is somehow...underrated.
Make Believe is pretty low tier to me but I dislike Black a lot more because other than the first three tracks which are good, the album feels boring, uninteresting, safe and bland, yet Rivers tried so hard to sell it as unique, and fresh, and reaaaaally experimental for a band like Weezer with this annoying ass "yeah we do what we wanna do fuck the haters!" attitude
I can see why Pacific Daydream can be seen as bad but honestly I think it's a fun listen, and compared to the godawful shit other bands like Green Day have been putting out in recent years, it feels somewhat tame in comparison. I think it could've been way better if it was produced by anyone but Butch Walker tho
Black is a solid album if you tune out literally anything rivers said before hand. But its fair if you don't like it, it's a weird ass album. In my opinion by describing the album's he's setting himself up to fail because he never really does a good job explaining what they really sound like. I agree that make believe is underrated on a technicality tho.
There is 1 good track and 1 meh track PD is much better
I wouldn't call Make Believe underrated.. more so overhated. It's still not very good but it's definitely above average at least.

As much as I love Maladroit, I find it funny that exactly the album made with the fans turns out to be the bland, forgotten, mindless rock, no hit-single, and the over-processed one of ALL the albums. It's like the same fanbase sabotaging the album beforehand lmao

My favorite album is Blue. For me personally their debut is the best Weezer album due to the high concentration of great songs, with my personal favorite being “No One Else”. However, there is no songs on this album that I actually dislike.
I have them all but if I could only have one Weezer album it's not even close. White.

Raditude
In the wake of Kurt's death, 13 y/o me didn't know where to go... Green Day came first for me, Weezer promptly followed. I felt like I was enjoying quite a buffet as an alterna-teen. It's all aged differently for me though as I trim the fat that is nostalgia and just like what I like regardless of the age I was or whatever. These days, revisiting my teenage taste usually favors Pavement or Sonic Youth... or Wu Tang Clan.
Anyway, my Weezer top 5, that's all I'm going with here:
5. Green (simple, memorable)
4. Maladroit (most adventurous and muscular)
3. White (solid pop crafting and definable)
2. Pinkerton (overrated... and still second best)
1. Blue (the sum of all, in virgin form)

@@GDNashit I felt like it hit flavors of Blue and Green but more in keeping with the times. I know a lot of people feel that Green hasn't aged well... but I find White to be more of an extension of it than the rest. Time moves on and away, as it should, but White has the pop charm that has always been there from the start. It's not really taking any risks but it's fun and solid... in my opinion.

Blue is their best album. I love it.
Blue is an Alt Rock classic, one of the best records of the 90's because it had a different flavour to rock of the time, was produced fantastically (heavier than most metal records) and had an underlying vulnerability underneath it's messaging. However, not my favourite, my favourite is Pinkerton because it's just so honest, raw and rough and came to me at my lowest point when I was teenager and I can honestly say it saved my life. Thanks Weezer, very cool
