Oh my god Radiant Historia and Bravely Default are classics. I also loved Alliance Alive. Special shout out to Stella glow and Monster hunter stories as well! So many amazing JRPGS on the 3ds!
im playing tales of the abyss on 3ds and i love it. i also like the dragon quest games on here , devil survivor and bravely default like you guys mentioned and so many more. great list you two.
This is the first time I’ve heard anyone talk positively about this Abyss port. Everywhere I’ve read have said it’s terrible. Good game but the 3DS can’t handle it technically.
I feel like the Switch is missing a lot of soul the 3DS games had. I got a blue 2DS with Pokemon X and playing a Pokemon on Switch now will never replace that other feeling.
There are some great ones on Switch but I know what you mean. I think there's a certain charm that comes from a system with low power like the 3DS that can't be truly replicated on the Switch.
So happy Radiant History getting the spotlight. Amazing game with fantastic writing, world building and political intrigue, with creative, addictive battle system. Every JRPG fan owes itself to play it.
You finally did a 3ds video. That's epic!!! My fave game on the 3ds is Dragon Quest 8. However my first jrpg finished was Tales of Abyss. Also have a special love for Fantasy Life
I love my transparent red 2ds.I still play on it.Since i play exclusively jrpgs the 3ds with ds backwards compatibility has limitless options.I have played and finished around 44 3ds jrpgs.And i still have so many i want to play(especially the etrian odyssey series) but i moved to PS2 and psp to finish a few jrpgs there before i go back again.

I'm still debating it... :D
I didn't find the battles too bad! Though it's a good idea to save fairly often because there are some difficulty spikes every now and then in the random encounters that can do you in 😅

Some great games on this list. DS: Overclocked is amazing, my personal choice for #1. Someday I'll finish Radiant Historia, and from all I have heard it might take the top spot then. I know a lot of long-time fans have problems with Awakening (as an SMT mainline fan, I have some sympathy), but I really enjoyed it.
These are really great picks. I'm especially partial to Radiant Historia and Alliance Alive, and I need to give all the Fire Emblems pre-Three Houses a chance now that I've gotten into that one. Nice video!

I'm surprised Devil Survivor Overclocked was picked over Record Breaker. Both games are great (with original 1 being arguably better than 2) but the Record Breaker offered so much more as a remaster. Also shout out to Stella Glow, one of my favorite games on the system. I knew almost nothing about the game going in so finding out it was a mix between Tactics Ogre, Persona and Ar Tonelico made me fall in love instantly.
I was pretty excited to try bravely default, but after you said that it has terrible ending, that excitement is gone xD Well at least i got good tip to try Radiant Historia :D

Anyways, here's my own top 10 (with one per franchise): 10. *The Alliance Alive* 9. *Xenoblade Chronicles 3D* 8. *Bravely Second: End Layer* 7. *Tales of the Abyss* 6. **Pokémon Sun/Moon* 5. *Mario & Luigi: Dream Team* 4. *Shin Megami Tensei IV* 3. *Fire Emblem Echoes: Shadows of Valentia* 2. *Radiant Historia: Perfect Chronology* 1. *Dragon Quest VIII: Journey of the Cursed King* I will say that for as good as the 3DS' library of games is, I still think the DS still holds the crown for being the best handheld console overall.
How are XY in this list but ORAS and/or USUM are not? Also Yo-Kai Watch could very well be up there, yet I do agree that bravely default and FE are on there.
I'd argue that 4 is probably the least appealing of the bunch. I started with it but there's no Fast Forward button so everything is unbelievably slow. Granted, if you start with 4, there's no frame of reference, so maybe it'll be ok. I just know that while other Etrian games are easy to get back into, 4 is tough. At least there are a ton of games to choose from on the 3DS. 1 and 2 got remade, then there's 4 (again, my least favorite) along with 5 and Nexus. Not to mention the Persona Q1 and 2 games which is essentially Etrian Odyssey but with Persona characters. Can't really go wrong with any of those 3DS games.
No Yokai Watch series that series is pokemon,Diablo and Yakuza like map full of things to do and gets more to do each game they also get more expensive each game in English that parts not as good though.
I gotta shout out Yo-Kai Watch as a really nifty RPG the 3DS had. I've got a handful of these I still need to check out (EverOasis, 7th Dragon) and finish Fire Emblem Fates off someday. It was a banger console that I almost exclusively played a while. Kind of sad it feels like ancient history now.
I have! They have a random factor that I don't like. Too many times I ran into groups of enemies and I just got stun locked into oblivion and lost a lot of progress.

Overclocked is such a based take. Arguably the best sprg I've played (sorry TO/FFT fans). Gameplay is top notch, characters are great and the ost is just sublime. And ehy, a game where your choices truly, TRULY matter! RF4... Just play it on switch please.
Totally disappointed about the first pick here. FE Awakening is probably the worst game of this series period if we except NES games. Some would argue about Fates but Fates does have an interesting (with flaws I agree) level design. The sentence "Unforgettable strategy RPG" is probably the worst thing you could have said : Awakening does have some qualities (and god thoses OST) for classic jrpg players. It's an easy to play game. But as a strategy game it's so bad, almost an insult to people who love the genre. It so poorly design and poorly balanced. Almost everytime the same objective, maps are uninteresting and can be broken so easily, the strategy part is a total failure. Awakening isn't the worst jrpg I've played that's for sure, but as a SRPG it's by far the worse. Overall the top isn't bad and show some really interestings games (SMT & Radiant Historia !) but as a srpg fan (and Fire Emblem fan even more) it hurts me to see this order :(
For me a lot of that pick being #1 had to do with what it represented: it got me back into Nintendo and really revitalized the SRPG genre that had struggled for years. I still think it's a great game but I could see how you would disagree too.

Fantastic video! I'm a huge JRPG fan and the 3DS may be my favorite console of all time. So many great games, JRPGs and otherwise!
My favorite game on the 3DS is the whole Etrian Odyssey series but I also love Ever Oasis a lot as well.

Does anyone know what happened to the alliance alive because I can't find it on the 3ds store and I can barely find it on the ps store
It switched publishers (from Atlus to NIS America) so I wonder if part of the deal was removing from the 3Ds store.

I never had a 3ds but now days i see so many great JRPGs and i would love to get one but i notice the prices have sky rocketed.
Sadly the prices are stupid high right now, especially with the eshop closing down.
