    Hi James, that was really helpful thank you. I am a presenter on a community radio station and love it however I have to work on my ‘uhh’ & ‘umm’ although I have improved a lot over 3 years! I always listen back to my live shows and I have worked out that I do that when I am trying to read several screens, read my script or I have a problem in front of me, a good colleague said ‘just pause’ rather than ‘um’ (briefly). Any ideas?

    • @JamesMulvanyTV
      @JamesMulvanyTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Personally I think people get too caught up in the whole 'umm' 'ahh' thing. It's part of our natural language after all!
      When we're having conversations with anyone, we will umm and arr as part of our day to day speech - so why any different on the radio. I agree if it's excessive it can become annoying, but don't beat yourself up too much for the occasional stumble over your words - even presenters who are working at the highest level on national TV & Radio will occasionally mess up a word, or umm and ahh!
      Hope that helps!

    Tip sometimes a guest prepared 10 questions for a one hour shown but it isnt enough content and you'll wind up with dead air time. get some articles about their area of expertisr and share content and ask for their opinion. it will help promise.

    • @JamesMulvanyTV
      @JamesMulvanyTV  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree. Always good to be over prepared!

    I think voice must be dynamic. Radio presenting is an art just like singing. I berg to differ on the issue of voice. When presenting news for example should sound different in terms of voice from presenting an advert. Dynamism is key for radio presenters.
