HOW TO: Straighten 4C Natural Hair Tutorial (No Blow Dryer Needed)

  • Hey Guys!
    As you probably know from my previous video, I flat ironed my hair! I am showing you exactly what I did and how I did not have to use a blow dryer. When it comes to using heat however, although I try to minimize the amount I use on my strands, there is always a risk of heat damage. Just keep that in mind : )
    ALSO, my hair turns out stiff no matter what when I straighten it. As long as I use heat on my hair, even if its just a blow drying, it gets super dry. That is why I use products when I straighten my hair, as I would rather have oily hair than, brittle hair. But of you, can do whatever works for you :)
    Product used:
    -Rajeeyah Sweet natural Leave in
    -Silk Element Heat Protector
    -Cortex Flat Iron on 400 degrees (Yikes)
    -Chi Silk Infusion Serum

    some people don't understand 4c hair is extremely hard to straighten by yourself but obviously people with loose textures don't understand that

    • @BbyAriesASMR
      @BbyAriesASMR 8 ปีที่แล้ว +128

      It really isn't... My hair is kinkier than hers but can achieve amazing silkiness & bounce with the right products. She used a lot of products & barely any heat which is why she had those results. But she seems to be happy with the way it turned out so kudos to her (:

    • @simone233
      @simone233 8 ปีที่แล้ว +25

      Agree, i have similar hair and when i was natural as a kid could get it silky straight with bounce. We always used a hot comb though, perhaps thoose are better for 4 types attempting straight look?

    • @BbyAriesASMR
      @BbyAriesASMR 8 ปีที่แล้ว +18

      Sim lala Yep! Hot combs can achieve great results if used properly. Tbh you just have to get the hair as straight as possible with a blow dryer to achieve a great silk press.

    • @KaylaMarie_
      @KaylaMarie_ 8 ปีที่แล้ว +16

      +Dazfordays I'm 4a b and I get a better look with a hot comb. I mean a hot comb is basically the chase method with one tool instead of two.

    • @rainydaze1502
      @rainydaze1502 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      +Dazfordays Exactly. Im 4c all over and my hair straightens like nobody's buisness lol. Even when I blowdry my hair, my roots are silky.

    Comment continued. Y'all expect the woman hair to be bone straight although she has 4c hair, used no additional heat used such as large hood dryer rollers or a blow dryer! She did a great job just needs a trim. Ma'am do you and don't listen to these negative nancies!!

    • @JennJackson

    • @Gross126
      @Gross126 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      +GlamNP The thing is, there are way to get straighter more sleek hair even if you are 4c. It DEF. won't be the first time you straighten though... since I'm assuming she doesn't straighten often. But after a while, hair will learn how to be straight without heat damage.

    • @glamnp5456
      @glamnp5456 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Lyviiz How would you have straighten her hair?

    • @Gross126
      @Gross126 8 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      GlamNP same way I straighten mine. water based leave in, straightening serum, heat protectant, blow dry with tension method, flat iron with tension method.

    • @glamnp5456
      @glamnp5456 8 ปีที่แล้ว +15

      +Lyviiz That would probably be my technique as well. But the key words are *Blow Dry* which she did not use, explains the stiffness in hair and maybe the excessive use of products which she already explained why she does it that way. That's my point in my comment. But, "it's not what you say, it's how you say it." Not you, but some of the posters can be down right rude and disrespectful.

    I have no clue what all those people below are talking about. The point of straightening your hair is that you get it *straight* :/ and I loved how sleek it was instead of it being puffy. All this talk about body and movement as if our hair is Caucasian - it will never move the same way!

    • @ceejsarchives
      @ceejsarchives 8 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      +Sarah SJ Simon what oil are you using because you really shouldn't be using any oil after flat ironing as it weighs the hair clumping it together and stops the flow and definitely not during as that is the same as cooking your hair. In addition it makes a big difference if you blow dry your hair first. A good heat protectant to use when blow drying and flat ironing I find is you pro it's not a spray but a cream and you only use a really small amount. I've seen great results on 4 hair. Hope this helps😊

    I have a friend who is a beautician who can get my extreme coily 4C hair bone straight. The problem is any slight moisture that touches my scalp will bring it back to it's coily form thus leaving me to have to try to imitate what my friend did which I absolutely can not do. Also with years of getting burned during hot comb presses when I was kid left me to have a fear of hot things in my head so I just stay away from the straight hair. The only way my hair will stay straight is if I put a relaxer in it and I'm not going back to that,.

    When I first started straightening my hair it kind of looked like that (yes I have 4c hair) and it is because of all the product in it. It weighed down my hair so much and looked too greasy. A simple change or just reduction of the amount of product you use and more concentration on straightening the full length of the hair properly (mainly meaning the root) will have your hair having soo much more movement and sleekness to it :)

    I love your videos, have probably watched evey single on since you chopped a couple years ago. I know you take very good care of your hair. Finger detangle, deep condition and so on. Yet your hair is thining/breaking at the ends. Could it be the protective styling? Perhaps your hair is not getting enough moisture while in a protective state? Or the synthetic hair is somehow mixing with yours and causing yours to break? You are still very young, surely the breakage couldn't be due to aging? I big chopped 18months ago, due to thin ends and I want to avoid a repeat. Can you think of anything that could be causing the thining? When was the last time you trimmed? How often do you trim?

      Miss4C Those are good questions. I followed her videos for when she was doing the protective style challenge and saw that her hair was thinning. I know it's recommended to let your hair breathe and be free for two weeks between doing long term protective styling. Or it could be a diet factor as well.

    • @JennJackson
      @JennJackson  9 ปีที่แล้ว

      Miss4C I agree, I try to take care of my hair but I have been a bit lazy with it/busy with school. My hair started thinning before the challenge so I am not going to associate it with the protective styles just yet. I won't do a long term style this summer so I will see if that helps. I trim pretty often (3-4 months) and I had a hair cut basically at the end of the challenge. I am just going to cover all the basics such has a great regimen along with an excellent diet and see if that helps.

      I would suggest going to the doctor. If nothing is wrong then just blame it on aging. The older we get the more our bodies change. That could be a factor especially if you're taking care of your hair.

      N. A wrong!! If we blacks want a silky straight look we can,it's just that we don't want silky straight all the time,perhaps you should look at more youtube videos where the kinky hair get silk. plus yes her hair looks good,not all want silk...limp

    You gave me hope 😢😢😢😢 I have fine 4c hair and I wanted to roller set for my graduation to help it look fuller. I have never straightened my hair since I've been natural and give or take my hair is around the same length as yours EXCEPT one section that got completely CUT during a crochet braid takedown D': I'm in the process of growing that hair back out. Thank you for showing this process, I'm so glad you have videos for me to watch lol.

    Even though your hair is very kinky a simple blowout would have helped to get your hair straight . You needed little to no products that's why your end result was sorta oily and heavy with no body or bounce , just saying .and your hair is very healthy I can tell . But your end result made your hair look damaged .
