@@Kappy29k eggman is between 50-60. they may have never met but when he was young she seemed to be the most loved in the family, if what he said in frontiers is to be believed. so he most def knew of her when he was young.
Even though Eggman felt envious of Maria, he still cared enough to take personally the fact that she was cut down before she barely even had a chance to live and losing any chance he had of getting to know her
It is interesting to speculate how different Eggman (or should I say, Ivo Robotnik) would have been if Maria had been in his life.

@@Evoflare133Nah, I’d want P-06 to remain a fan-game. As much as Sega have done good to the Sonic franchise, I still don’t trust them to handle P-06. Then again, Sonic Mania started out as a fan game before being handed over to Sega, so I could be wrong.
I keep seeing this comment everywhere and it baffles me every single time. When has SEGA *NOT* acknowledged it? Sonic Runners, Dash, Speed Battle, Speed Simulator, the Cookbook, the encyclospeedia, Sonic Channel, Generations, the Sonic Symphony literally starts with 06, Mephiles was originally gonna be connected with the Time Eater AND Infinite and they've proudly made that publicly known, 06 merchandise all the time, Archie tied to all games or adapted them in some way and 06 was no exception, Rivals is essentially a direct sequel, Colors DS references it, the social media team references it all the time, Team Sonic Racing directly referenced it a few years ago, the IDW comics reference it. Legitimately, y'all are gaslighting yourselves, there's never not been a time they haven't acknowledged it.

I can actually feel the raw sadness in his voice. Even Eggman, as evil as he is, acknowledged what happened to Maria was messed up. I love the range Mike Pollock gives Eggman.

@BritBox777 Eggman was never supposed to be some embodiment of darkness or a Nazi crossed with The Joker/Jack Horner. He was always supposed to be someone who thinks he's making the world a more beautiful and upgraded one by mechanizing it with him able to protect it under his rule and he's supposed to be a selfish villain but still having affable moments. Ohshima said so and it's in his bios for Sonic Jam and Adventure (through their guides).

I love that Eggman is still thinking about manipulating Shadow even after SA2, Heroes, & Shadow ‘05. The fact that he takes Maria’s death to heart is a nice way of humanizing him and a nice way to build off his Egg Memos from Frontiers.

@@ergob3907 Yeah a good 2 short times. To be fair, the second time he tricked Knuckles, Knuckles was skeptical and only believed him because it looked like Sonic was holding a shard of the Master Emerald. He initially thought Eggman had one too so it wasn't just because of Eggman's lie. You even see part of Sonic's emerald but it happened to be the green one. And also, part of the trick is knowing that Sonic is too stubborn to explain the situation and both idiots will just fight it out.
He tricks Knuckles more in Sonic X than in the games. Oddly, despite covering the Adventure arc, his trick from SA1 isn't present in Sonic X tho. But the first trick is getting him to fight Sonic, probably as a proxy for not showing Sonic 3's storyline where he makes Knuckles think Sonic's the bad guy. And simultaneously like the SA1 trick as well because Sonic could just find out what's going on and tell him that Eggman is lying but instead he hints to it through insults and taunting and decides to fight Knuckles.
Bonus: just as Eggman shows up to a trusting Knuckles and makes him do his bidding, Black Doom does the same thing with Shadow, Eggman does the same thing with Jet, Mephiles does the same thing with Silver, and Merlina does the same thing with Sonic. SOOOOOOOOOO.... lol

@@ergob3907 I do love when villains are more powerful with mind games and manipulating rather than pure strength like when does it all of the Hero side in SA2. Even Rouge isn’t immune to his tricks. Such a fun part of his character

Very common. Both are true but one feeling will dominate the other in certain situations. For instance, if you are being neglected by loved ones due to another family members death, you will feel resentment.
But if you are talking to outsiders about a soldier gunning down your cousin, you are going to feel protective.
Probably one of those things where your connective relative feelings take over your family jealously. You know, like how most sibling relationships are; You despite their presence, but it's the other way around when you two are apart
I think Eggman resents his family for giving Maria the attention he felt he deserved, but doesn't blame Maria herself.
Eggman is distant from his family but Maria was still one of them, and she was murdered. No matter how isolated he felt that still has to hurt. I think he felt closer to her and his grandfather than he did any of the rest.
Considering he never even knew Maria, I take this more to mean that he feels a bit of regret. Maria is a Robotnik, and just as much family to him as Gerald was, but while he clearly looked up to Gerald, Maria just kind of... exists to him. And I don't think he likes that very much. Maybe he wishes he could have had more of an opportunity to get to know her?
Damn never seen Eggman both praising and loathing Shadow at the same time.

Well Shadow is the ultimate lifeform created by his grandfather Prof. Gerald Robotnik and best friends with cousin Maria and the last connection he has to his family teaming with Sonic and fighting against him so yeah it's complicated.
@TheDigiDog Eggman has always respected Shadow and Shadow has no real issue with what Eggman does as long he's not being a supervillain (meaning he wouldn't insist on killing him when he's Mr. Tinker once he's shown to have lost memory). They repeatedly teamed up and been civil.

Granted, there's A LOT of room for speculation regarding him, but I don't think Sonic X introducing modern day assassinations wasn't intentional (they even added cut dialogue from SA2).

Hearing Eggman go from "goofy recap" to letting his emotions get the better of him is really cool
I’m so happy Shadow is being humanized here. He just wanted to live in peace. He’s not just an edge lord. Dude has some serious trauma and became who he is because he lost someone he loved. At the deep root of his character should be someone that cares deeply for others, so much so he literally threatened the world for them, and now protects it for them.

Agreed. I appreciate how Sonic Team is starting to reign in what their main characters' personalities are really supposed to be. Between Shadow becoming an edgelord and Knuckles becoming a dumb jock, I was beginning to lose hope that they actually still cared about this franchise.

@@chaoticcranium I'd like to believe it's the difference between him being a somewhat bad person and being a threat to the entire world. He was probably always going to be an eccentric with a huge ego, but without Gerald and Maria keeping him in check I suspect his remaining family just wasn't up to the task. Not abusive, but not capable of dealing with someone with his nastier personality quirks.

I'm in the camp of Remaking 06 from the ground up would be the smatest move Sonic could make for its reputation. Take the good ideas and make an actual game this time.

@@LordQuint Surprisingly, it’s already confirmed that 06 stages are in Shadow Gens, even though it’s only 1 so far that is confirmed (Kingdom Valley). In terms of Black Knight, as much as I would love to see stages from there, I think we should be a little bit conservative of our hype and expectations. It would be ridiculously insane if they brought back levels from Black Knight, but they’ll probably be more focused on games that cater towards the dynamic characterisation of Shadow throughout the mainline series. Even so, just seeing Black Knight footage on the official Sonic account is great!

I love that phrase, it reinforces a headcanon I had about the only 2 things in the world for which Eggman would show genuine affection and concern are: his creations (Metal or Sage for example) and his family.

The whole narration of Eggman explaining about Shadow's storyline was absolutely amazing where it pretty much amps up fans about the recent release about Sonic X Shadow: Generations! Pretty sure that the game itself is going to be a big one because of not only due to the game's anticipation, but also for Sonic the Hedgehog 3 being released in theaters! Hell yeah!🤘🤙
Man I love how this starts off with Eggman being his smugly scheming self into him having a near mental breakdown over Shadow's power.
I also really love that despite never really knowing and feeling quite envious of Maria he acknowledges what happened to her was messed up.
Eggman tricking Shadow into overexerting himself is actually a good idea. Even if he has to lose an army of robots, he could swoop in after and defeat the hedgehog when he's tuckered out. The problem would be with containment. How do you keep him from breaking out when he comes to? You'd have to have a specialized prison for him. Maybe keep him deep under water, so that if he breaks out, the water would come flooding in. That would dissuade him. His friends Rouge and Omega would probably take Shadow's capture personally, though, and wreck all of Eggman's toys until they get him back.

It's not a terrible plan, I think the main issue is, well, the army and somehow needing to keep him in the same spot and tire him out, so you need lots of factors to both present significant enough opponents that taking off the limiters for prolonged periods of time is a necessity, and somehow ensure he won't just seek to slip away, or just destroy the entirity of the army before hitting his limit.

This is awesome! I kinda like the idea that Eggman finding out about Maria's death and the actions taken against his family possibly being the catalyst for why he ended up taking the path he did. Also like that they acknowledge Shadow as being on par with Sonic. Speed, power, it's how it should be.

Somewhere Sage is somewhat questioning Shadow's involvement.
This was just as much of a Shadow backstory video as it was a look into Eggman's thoughts and feelings. His comment about Maria was actually quite touching.
You can really tell that they want to take a deeper dive into sonic's lore with this going foward, and I could not be happier!!!

Probably just changed it to make it make more sense since ALOT of people don't know the word inhibit even exists and ALOT of people just call them limiter rings anyways. It's the die hards like us that call them inhibitor rings.

They were always called "Limiters" in Japan
I don't recall any official source calling them inhibitor rings outside of the game universe. As I've come to understand, the fanbase adopted the term "inhibitor rings" because of the comics, but Japanese Sonic X calls them just "limiters" and it was the 1st time ever when it was introduced that they limit Shadow's energy in the whole Sonic media. I think this might be 1st time ever "limiter rings" are officially named in the game canon (tho it's still currently in a TH-cam video, but by an official channel about Shadow's game appearances so I count it).

So many people make fun of Shadow's backstory, claiming it's "not that serious"... but I'm not one of those people. Thank you for making this, Sonic Team
Love how Eggman sees Shadow as a Great Creation to Science and also a Dangerous Threat to his Schemes but the Fact that he takes his Family Seriously shows you a Soft Side to the Doctor, just because he’s a Mad Genius it doesn’t mean he’s fully Heartless, he even cares about his Robotic Army that Sonic and Shadow Destroy.

Great job for making this brief but great video about Shadow from Eggman’s perspective. You see how he cared for Maria deeply despite not meeting being able to meet her. It’s amazingly done
It looks like Eggman is looking some history from Shadow The Hedgehog from the past.
Shadow has air shoes yet we never seen him use them to fly except ever only in 1 cutscene in SA2 when he was freed by Eggman.
They're not used to fly though, they're used to essentially push the wearer's forward at speeds they otherwise wouldn't be able to achieve.

That one comment Eggman made about Maria taking her death personal even though he didn’t know her was literally one of the most sentimental things he had ever admitted.
Hearing Eggman share some insight on how he feels about Maria makes me happy. He might not have had a connection with her since he didn't know her, but he still thought of her as family.

Love this era of sonic where they're trying to give eggman actual nuance. He's been the non-threatning joke villain with no one to really depend on, and with frontiers and sage, it's actually pretty nice to see him showing a more emotional side
