I was a patternmaker in the Navy and was nicknamed Geppetto because I enjoyed using all hand tools to do my work. If only I had been exposed to your passion for craft back then and youtube had been around. Thank you for exposing us to this amazing work and for inspiring great craftsmanship.
Wow, I have to admit it's the first time I'm hearing about this school and I'm blown away. I'll most definitely sign up for those shorter workshops - amazing things they offer!
Can you do a video on room and trim colors? Natural colored wood vs stained vs painted trim and wainscot. I’m a woodworker and I’m completely redoing the interior of my 1900s NE Pennsylvania home. I love the look of natural woods. I have access to plenty of red oak and can’t decide if I should use it for trim or to go with a painted white trim. Great show I’ve learned a ton. Keep the videos coming especially the historical aspects. Thank you!
Fantastic. Please keep producing this educational and challenging content. Your passion, experience, and personality combine to be a voice the industry really needs to hear!
That is such a cool video! Thank you for giving us the tour. I always learn something new from you. I love that enter inter flute design that you showed.!
Everything ive seen before about this school led me to believe that its not a very hands on school but after watching this video i might have to take a tour.
WOW ! What an amazing place full of treasure ready for everyone to discover their potential learning to build from the past. I just learned how to use a wood planner. It was amazing !
I'm looking into a woodworking program and I found out about this school. Sure enough, someone has kindly posted on YT about the place, so: much appreciated!
What is the name of the of the stone (or concrete) architectural element between the two brick eyebrow arches at the entrance? Not a keystone.. Please help, it's driving me nuts. Just had to build a bunch of those doo-dads out of wood and nobody can agree on the correct name.
If it interests you go for it. If youre young you wont find a better base if you want to be in the trades or a builder. I have 28 years working on houses now any structure in my early training would have put me ahead a decade. I worked on top tier homes for 20 years and now im doing entry level.
Brent, how come with how much you love pre 1940 historic homes you chose a mid century modern ranch for you personal house? I thought you would be much more into an arts and crafts or colonial style.
Good question. I always thought the same. We have lived in older homes but this one was right for my family at the time and we love the neighborhood. Maybe one day...
Have you ever been to Tiny Texas Houses in Luling,TX? It’s amazingly crafted tiny houses all from salvage materials (not built on trailers). There is a huge warehouse of salvage materials from the past. Beautiful and strong materials. It’s incredible 😊
Still can’t believe this channel hasn’t blown up. You have real talent for explaining things.
Thank you.
Attending this school sounds like an absolute dream. Maybe it'll be the start of a second career, when that time comes.
There are a LOT of second career people at NBSS. You should do it.

Agreed!
Wish I was as into wood working in college as I am now I missed a great chance. Maybe I can talk a kid or two into going there.
Word! I'm hoping my son goes there as well.

Very interesting. Thanks.
Funny how the North Bennet Street School is only 400 yards away from the atrocity of Boston's City Hall.
Haha, good point.
