Great to see some nice finds popping out the ground

They liked sandy areas near rivers, creeks or springs with some high ground. Clay soil is horrible to walk around on if it rains. That's why they liked sandy areas better. They'd want some high ground for obvious reasons during possible flooding. Obviously, there are exceptions to these, but here in Oklahoma those are very good possible campsite indicators. Gravel bars are excellent places to search for points for obvious reasons. If gravel is deposited there then points will be as well, common sense. Always look closely at eroded banks where you can see a cross section of the soil. If you find flakes or hopefully a point it will show you the depth they're likely at if you want to excavate.
As for the "bird points" and people saying they were the "real" arrowheads, I adamantly disagree. I have several washita points that are about 1"x1"x1" triangular corner notched points. They were used on arrows without doubt. They're much more recent than the atlatl points in this area but there are distinct differences in their shape and size. I personally believe the majority of "arrowheads" and "spear points" are likely knife blades. There are also bird points that are very small here. I think they were either made by children with otherwise abundant unusable flakes as a way for them to learn to knap and possibly as jewelry. It's possible they could've been used in blow guns or on youth arrows, but for hunting in the plains that doesn't make much sense to me considering the availability of large game such as bison, deer, etc. Turkey are large enough to hunt with large projectile points... I just don't think it would make much sense to make points that small for hunting unless you're in a desert with mostly small game like birds and rodents in which case setting dead-fall traps and such makes more sense.
One last thing, my father and I have had discussions about why we find so many intact points in one area at times. We both agree that the points were important and not likely to have been lost or left behind in abundance. We've come to the conclusion that in areas where they're in abundance a camp was likely wiped out by rival tribes, the Spanish or by natural disaster like tornadoes in this state and possibly floods.
Hope that helps some people and gets others to think more deeply about the subject.

My theory on unbroken points being found in quantity in a small area is that it was likely a yearly hunting camp where animals were cleaned after successful hunts. When an arrow became “stuck” in the animal’s flesh the sinew would absorb blood and loosen. When the arrow was pulled the point would come off and lost during the cleaning process.
Or…it was a hunting ambush site where missed shots ended up being an arrow lost in the grass.
In either case, over the course of a few hundred years, you can end up with a handful of lost points.

Me and my cousin both found one each in complete random woods behind his house in a mudslide. Mine was the average size I'd say a blue agate type. My cousins though was like absolutely perfect and like yours it was so small I thought maybe they shot birds with it? Very cool . Best part was my cousin found his and I was so amazed and excited I wanted to find one also badly. He mocked me saying the odds were so slim
.and I believed him. 10 seconds later I bend over and pick up a huge one lol he was amazed and incredulous.

The arrowhead was used for all game including deer and bison. Its not what you hit em with but where and how much penetration the projectile gets. I have found hundreds of arrow points that small in Caddo country, southwest Arkansas. I have a friend that was on a dig in the Texas panhandle and he found a dead bison with three small side notched points embedded in the animal.

I have found many small arrowheads here in N.C the smallest is less than a 1/4 inch long. I cannot figure out still what they would have used them for. Had to be formed by small hands and for a really small prey. You need a mag glass to really see the work.

The small point was used for bird hunting. I have a small collection of legally taken points. I also make my own. I am also a Dakota.
