Hi David! Thanks for the mention! I am familiar with Jan Garbarek via his work with Keith Jarrett. Speaking of which “Belonging” is a fabulous album. The ECM label is truly excellent as you described.
Wow, thank you so much for you kind words, David. I really appreciate it. The great ECM label was my intro to Norwegian artists (and I'm sure I'm not alone here). I thank ECM especially for my very long time enthusiasm for Terje Rypdal. I read Knut Hamsun's "Growth of the Soil" too, about 30 years ago, prompted by Frederick Delius having set some of Hamsun's poems to music. I've always loved how our interest in a particular artist or work of art (literature, music, art, ballet, theatre, etc.) can prompt us to explore other artists or works of art. Many years ago I used to enjoy writing articles about this type of confluence of different arts (and a couple were actually published in obscure journals, haha!) Anyway, thanks again for the shout-out. Cheers! Jeff
Actually, it was Delius' friendship with Hamsun that directed me to the latter....not the setting of poems, in this case. But I've discovered many other great writers via Delius' settings. Particularly the Danish author Jens Peter Jacobsen, one of my very favorites. Cheers! Jeff
Thanks Jeff. I was talking to a friend the other day about my own career, and was telling him the magic really only happened when I was able to combine ideas from different disciplines. So few people seem to make the connections, but when we do, it can be thrilling.
You've never heard 'Surf's Up'?!! It's not a perfect album but, to me, shows signs of maturity (and away from their sixties sound) that was very appealing when I got around to hearing it properly.
Hey David. Just subbed Jeff’s channel, and of course I’m already subbed to Alan and Gav’s channels. Great entry and answers. Love Surfs Up. Going to do my entry soon, Morten certainly deserves 650 and more. Cheers my friend.
Hiya David! Thanks for doing this. Great shout-outs. Yes, it was the second part. People living in your country of Norwegian descent, or summat other land that isn’t Norway. Like Richard Ayoade, Roald Dahl (Welsh) or David Horne (Scottish). This was A-ha’s 3rd album and their most «teenage-y» and yes, that’s must be their worst song. Jan Garbarek a big international artist of his genre. Do you want to hear something very special? Check out his daughter Anja Garbareks records. I did a video about her. This of course wouldn’t disqualify you, but then you did a KILLING making several brits out there go NOOOO! Wendy James (given up by her Norwegian parents in London for adoption, brought up in Brighton) and then Marc Almond. Amazing. Great entry. Loved the Knut Hamsun reference and Telegraf road and all. If you are interested, Tusmørke was interviewed by Prog Corner last week. Fantastic entry, you made me cheer with Wendy and then that banging Marc Almond entry. I’m well chuffed! Best of luck and cheers from Morten 😊
Glad you enjoyed that, Morten. I'm definitely going to check-out Anja. I know she's out there - I just haven't got around to making time for a proper listen. Given you Danish connections, I was going to show an Agnes Obel album as a bonus!
@@davidatkinson-Music-and-More Save that to maybe one day I make a Danish related tag or comp! Yes, Anja is quite something. My favorite is Baloon Moods.
Thanks for shout out Dave - Good idea to do a coffee and a meet up - I’m on insta under the channel name so easy to DM as the kids would say ! Also subbed to static traveller too as that looks a fun channel ❤ good choices too - I do do prog too 🎉
Gav, I'm not on Insta! My email is wither in my profile on YT, or it definitely can be found on my website. Get in touch and let's see if we can find an excuse to trade a few music ideas and go buy some new stuff!

Thanks, David. Subbed. Been enjoying your recent videos btw.

I'm not familiar with Jacobsen....at least not yet. Thanks for the tip.
I posted the response video, David. Thanks again for the shout-out and for introducing me to Morten’s channel.
Cecile claims that Take on Me is the greatest music video ever made. I have never heard Surf's Up!
I think it should be mandatory that you bring Cecile to next year’s party! 😊
@MGKBOSTON I will try to convince her. No promises 🙄

Cheers Jack. I'm sure Morten is going to smash 650 in no time. He's given us a good challenge.
