      same i was gonna say. Helicopter is a whole different world but i think great in DCS. Better than in any other Sim ive flown

    For me, when descending and slowing down, above 40 knots you take out collective, at and below 40 knots you add collective, and at 20 and below you add a LOT of collective, because the Huey will drop like a rock. That said, as an old Sim pilot, my tendency is to look too much at the instruments. 'Feeling' the panels shake as a sign of translational lift kicking in, or off, was really an eye opener for me. That's is a very good advice from Casmo.

    35:15 "We've got it easy!" Means that in normal conditions we just harmonize 4 different axes (2 for cyclic, pedals and collective) instead of 5 (add throttle to it). 🙂 Helos are crazy, I love them, and when I want to relax I jump to some jet. Or, if I want to relax a bit less, then a propeller. Helos are where I sweat.

    Eagle Dynamics: realistic enough to where you'll need 100 hours with a flight instructor realistic
    ..I love this rabbit hole known as DCS

    Just picked up the Huey and the Hind having never flown anything but fixed wing, this helped tremendously great video chaps.

    I had not flown a helicopter in DCS in over a year and I found myself going through much of this learning curve again with the Hind in the past couple of days. Muscle memory is really key with helicopters.

    Seeing GS struggle with this makes me feel a lot better about my initial experience with the Huey. Three days in and finally landing more often than crashing.

    30:30 GS goes from nearly no ability to control the rudder to slow fwd flight into a low-ceiling hangar? WELL DONE.

    It really is amazing watching someone go through the process of learning a helo after you've (mostly) got it down, and you recall that its literally a muscle memory thing, like new brain pathways have to be formed because none of this crap is natural lol. If you've flown sim helos or I'm sure real helos for a bit then all of the multitude of variables to controlling it become like riding a bike. You don't think about them that much. But trying to TEACH this to someone brand new in helo world is crazy hard I bet.

    OK so after watching your video the other day explaining the transition to ETL of vice versa, i told you how big of a difference it has made for me. It was funny to now watch this video. I have been watching GS since he started and he is knowledgeable, but to hear him have the "oh wow" moment when you described it to him, that was great.
    And by the way, 3 days later I just completed the deck landing qualification on all of them while moving.

    You have a good way with analogies, it's something you collect as an instructor.
    I thought it interesting you both found it weird flying from the right seat. In Australia the drivers seat for a car is on the right, so I found it much more comfortable being in the right seat of the cockpit as opposed to the left.

    Hey GS something you can do to help you with your rudder inputs for hover and transition is to let the nose come right as you apply collective and then add rudder input as needed. I did this for a few days just to get my 5 foot hover down. Once I understood where my rudder to collective needed to be I then worked on transition and landing. Now I ride the slope and touch down with no issues. Also practice Casmo hover drills. He has a vid that really helped me.

    I found this super helpful. The combination of GS's questions and Casmo's experience has taught me a lot about what I'm doing wrong. Trying to be passable in the Gazelle while I wait for the AH-64D - I'm sure this will help!

    I felt flying in the Huey in VR really helped me. The depth perception you get from VR is really something else. But I too was leaning in my seat/reaching for the controls I don't have plugged in in some of those. lol
    That being said, I used to be a master for flying air refueling on 2d flat-panel, then in VR there's just something off lol. I think its sort of that motion parallax you described, but more of a "VR is saying I'm moving in, but my inner ear is saying I'm not"
    I use force trim in the Huey, I have a warthog though, so it gets tiresome pretty quick hovering without an extension. I'm about to 3d-print and build my own cyclic and collective just for helo's.

    Love the coop vids! Awesome work, Casmo! Very helpful to a fledgeling pilot like me, too, as I'm doing the exact same mistakes as GS. Seeing the difference in inputs between you and him helps explain where I go wrong.

    Awesome video and really helpful for us newbies. Your previous video on landing was the one that finally got me to stop dropping out of the sky every time I'd get close to ground level, so cheers for that! But I think I have may have found a new love as well, I haven't touched any of my jet modules in months..

    The mos difficult thing about flying helicopters in DCS is getting the controls set up right. If one primarily uses jets, the controls are not sensitive enough for helicopters and vice versa. The muscle memory is also a huge issue. Getting used to huge control motions for fixed-wing aircraft will seriously mess you up when trying to fly a helicopter.
    You can see how different the sensitivity between the two were in the video. GS was making huge control movements while Casmo barely moved the controls.

    Tempted to get the coaxial-rotor KA-50 rather than go through the tail-rotor tribulations of the Sikorsky design. Might be my only chance ever to take GS in a one-circle.

      The Ka-50 is definitely a blast to fly, even if it's not as challenging as the other more traditional helicopters
