There were two detours, the one he made because of the bridge maintenance and the one he made in his marriage and life.
Eventually he threw down the curtains and everything went back to normal, just as the bridge opened again at the end of the film

    What I think:
If you consider your wife just as a sexual object that's what happens.
loving each other is a joyful work of life if you choose , being in connection with one another & what is living in one another in the moment is what matters only to have a benevolent relationship

  • @Cloudburst2000
    @Cloudburst2000 6 ปีที่แล้ว

Umm...I don't get all the comments bashing the wife. She didn't DO anything wrong. The husband IMAGINED EVERYTHING! Watch the video AGAIN! The dinner at the end is the EXACT same dinner from when the red curtains arrived. They are wearing the same exact clothes, eating the same food, EVERYTHING is the same meaning it is the SAME dinner. The husband imagined all of this while sitting at the dining table. He had this fantasy and it morphed into a nightmare (daymare). I do believe that he had ordered the curtains to 'spice' up their love life but when they arrived, I think he threw the box in the trash because he was too worried that his 'daymare' would come true if he put them up. I think the neighbors took the unopened box out of the trash and found brand new curtains. I think they decided to keep the new curtains which is why we see them hanging them up at the end. I thought it was pretty obvious at the end that he had imagined the whole thing. The wife never turned into a prostitute. He just imagined that she had...all because he bought red curtains LOL

It shows that when you want something and try to make it happen, it can give you excitement, passion and joy. But after you accomplished your goal, at the end it can turn into something that you didn‘t imagine or expect in the first hand. Also, when the neighbors were putting up the curtain he realizes that other people also go through same-similar phases. At least this is my opinion 🤔😅

Everything was real up to his seeing the other men. That was his fear of losing what he had with his wife so he trashed the new for the woman he has always loved. The neighbors saw the initial positive changes and followed suit. He learned that the passion between them is still there and slides happily back into their life. A bit of spice is nice, just remember that we love the ones we love.

Tbh, I don't think there was any love there. He probably tried spicing up their love life in order to become closer to her, which didn't work because there wasn't any real love from the woman.

"Don't want your partner the way you want. Want the partner the way your partner is. Always."
This is what I inferred from this...dont know why. Maybe my past has forced me to see it all this way.
We should never manipulate or mend our partner or relationship according to our own fantasies in mind. This ultimately harms everything and everyone. Love people as they are. Communicate to understand. Never communicate to only dominate.
Thankyou Omeleto for this wonderful video.

I love these short movies that express themselves so eloquently and poetically...without words. It forces a discipline upon both the creators and the watcher. The watcher is challenged because we have to infer so much without being 'told'. And the writers, producers, actors and directors are challenged to express the feeling of the scene, without words. Great stuff.

Just in case you wonder... It was filmed in Haarlem. A nice city, very close to Amsterdam, and well worth a visit.
Less touristy and crowded. Nice old houses. Good shopping. And home of the Frans Hals museum. I lived there for years.

I dont think she left him. The way they both kind of smile as they eat breakfast at the end suggests that they found happiness in each other and didn't need to spice up their love life to be happy.

Nothing really happened. The last scene where they're eating breakfast is the same scene from when they're eating breakfast the first time. He only imagined what could happen if he bought the red curtains and that's how he realised he was happy with what he had.

whats the point of this film? the couple infront of them have no problem having the curtain. The end would have been correct if he threw a divorce paper on her face XD. That's not the way u deal with that. He just fantasized a bit. If he was bad he would have gone to the prostitute. Makes no sense.
But the way they did the whole film without a dialogue is awesome.

If you like the concept of having no dialogue, you should watch Le Bal (1983) directed by Ettore Scola. It's an amazing movie.

What I think is that all that didn't happen and he was just imagining it. The hidden meaning to me is that although sometimes in life we really want to make something work and we think of what we can do to make it succeed, the fear of it failing or going out of our hands prevents us more often than not from acting it out. In this case, the man became used to a passive wife that he was afraid that if he'd try and put excitement in their lives he'd lose her. So he thought about it all and finally decided not to, wife didn't know he cared even, and they continue to live a monotonous life, and watch others bring excitement into theirs. At least that's what I felt

This whole video was very artistic. Where as red plays an important role. I don't understand it fully, but as he transformed his life with more red, the more I was filled with passion. So in essence, he was trying to add passion in his life. His wife was a redhead also....

There were two detours, the one he made because of the bridge maintenance and the one he made in his marriage and life.
Eventually he trew down the curtains and everything went back to normal, just as the bridge opened again at the end of the film
