It sure is. Kahurangi NP seems to have a high proportion of these old restored huts. Great to see them saved. Gives a good insight into what it must have been like for the early pioneers as you say. Nice to see the regeneration of native vegetation as well.
Thanks Adam. It’s a good spot. Pretty easy to get to if you are in the Takaka area. The track is ok in most conditions too but I am guessing the huts would be pretty cold in winter even with the fire.
Cheers ReviloNZ. Always feel so lucky with what we have on our back door in NZ and in particular (slightly biased :)) the South Island. To me Kahurangi NP is one of the best, if not the best, National Park area to tramp in. So much variety in landscape and huts. Hope you get to check it out soon.
@@samandkevsoutdooradventures Well...I made it and yeah, you were right, it is a long way in but such a cool wee hut in a nice big clearing near the river. Highly recommend. Be cool to do the whole circuit actually. Soper Shelter and Lake Stanley, look interesting. Another time. 👍

Great effort. Roughly how long did it take to reach Waingaro Forks Hut?
