Learn how to play I Want to Tell You written by George Harrison, as performed by The Beatles released as part of their 1966 Revolver album. The new Revolver Super Deluxe set was just released and on that includes a "Take 4" version of this song which has them debating what to title the song. John makes a joking remark about calling it "Granny Smith part II" which references the "Granny Smith" working title to George's other song which became "Love you to", and Ringo suggested calling it "Tell You".
The lesson focuses on the opening / end of chorus riff in A, the overall chord structure of the song, and the important E7b9 chord that on record is played by the piano, but I show you how to voice that on the guitar. An important detail to capture the songs feel if you are playing on guitar.

It's noticeable in the way they talk about them and their admiration for the most 'insignificant' things to some. I just listened to a Steve Miller song and he throws this riff in at the end. Anything that ends with a sustained A calls for this.
Thanks a million for showing me this riff. That wild chord was perplexing me but modifying the E7 I play all the time on the 5th fret is perfect.
Been working on this one throughout the day. Have done it before but only with chords. Adding the riff to the vocal is TRICKY; especially ending each verse and going into the riff. I wouldn't have gotten close have you not "expertly" broken it down like you did. Also, your insight into what George was trying to express, in the song, is very revealing. I never tried to "understand" the meaning like this. Mostly, just the musical aspect. Nice insight on your part. Now, I come away thinking; how does someone write a song like this? Sounds spot on i think that Dr Robert pedal is pretty accurate for and your bird can sing which is quite hard to get on modern equipment

I was fascinated by that “ chord”, From the time I first heard it in there! I have it as E7b5. I think Lennon used it in I WANT YOU later on. Harrison was so innovative. Great job.
He's playing E7b9 (with no 5th in it) although E7b5 is another altered chord which might sound fine.

Great lesson. I'd always just played the pull-offs in the riff as straight notes, but clearly they are pull-offs in the way you describe. Also, I like your explanation of the dissonant E7. That chord always bothered me in that I felt that George was simply trying to avoid the standard I-IV-V, and didn't want the song to sound too "fab." I still think on some level that choice was a shame; played as a straight E7, the song becomes one of the most melodic of Beatle songs, on par with almost anything Lennon or McCartney had done. But your interpretation of the dissonance of the narrative being reflected in the dissonance of that chord is compelling. Finally, your voicing of that chord is genius. I once read that George explained the chord as a simple E7 on the guitar with the dissonant F coming from the piano. But your voicing perfectly and automatically enables the F-E "warble" in the chord to be sounded within the natural rhythm of the strum. Great stuff. Now my only quandry is for me to record it as George intended, or as I prefer? Decisions, decisions...

The Strawberry Fields Forever is actually 2 different versions in 2 different keys . George Martin slowed down one ,and speeded up the other to get them to match in Key .
Which produced the song.
@Darryl Moore I am aware of that. The guitar parts in the first 60 seconds before George Martin did his "magic splice* job that to me is amazing. On the Beatles anthology, there is a version of just the group without the orchestral arrangement and no key changes.
So - I've been playing this cool riff *wrong* for about ~35yrs.. !
That special chord reminds me of the dissonant chord in "She's So Heavy". Not sure if that version is in D or E.

The riff is like a fanfare - exciting - the dissonance is the anxiety
Is there a diminished chord in the 2nd part? - Bm Bdim A B7 Bm Bdim A A ...
could be, but I don't hear it that way. giving your chords a try, the first 2 sound like that could be (start with Bm then Bdim), but the last one before the AA to me sounds more like the Eb#9. they both share an F and a D as a chord tone, so they are related. So to my ear it could be Bm, Bdim, A, B7, Bm, Eb#9, A, Asus. I think that last A has the sus4 on it on the piano. the "...things" part of "...confusing-thnigs", the piano adds a D note there so could be cowboy A chord w D note on 3rd fret 2nd string. This is all such minutia, and don't mean to take the joy out of it all but I do like trying to actually get what they were doing. I think you may be onto something though with the Bdim at least on the first half of that part. thanks!

Why sing an octave higher then sing an octave lower but you sang it correctly at 7:50

another good way is (from 6 string to 1) 0x2131 - kinda like a normal E7 with an F on first string. which I believe also is a voicing used on one of the chords on "I Want You (she's so heavy)"
Dude! Too complicated for the 'eyebrow' chord (if you were speaking w/Frank Zappa...) I simply strap a Spinet piano to my fretting ankle!
