It’s so crazy I took it first time today at 2:30am or so mind you I be skeptical of all these meds from doctors so I broke it into pieces a week prior and I took one not 30mins later I’m having a panic attack I don’t know if that attack was gonna happen regardless if I hadn’t taken that little broken piece or it caused me to have a panic attack k but it was scary my blood pressure went up to 174/100 or so but I had a panic attack k last Monday too mines are strong but short and I’ve been able to overcome them without meds but still very weird they’ve happened at 3am recently, also I had a feeling it was coming so I took it to see but I didn’t take all 50mg cause I’m like scared lol

I started taking this within the last two weeks for heart-pounding anxiety and I definitely notice the sedative effects and dry mouth. Gonna try to use it only at night if I can as it makes me spaced out in a non-fun way. I appreciate the deep-dive on this thing I’m putting into my body reluctantly.

If you've been on a benzo for a long time and stop suddenly, Hydroyxzine won't stop the withdrawal effects of the benzo. If you start hydroyxzine first, then, I think it will reduce anxiety. But one shouldn't stop their benzodiazopine sudenly and switch to hydroyxine.

My doctor did EXACTLY this. I had been taking benzos for a solid 1.5yrs (4mg/day) then all of a sudden decided he's not prescribing them anymore and gave my hydroxyzine. It was horrible, especially since I was in college at the time.
He later got busted by the DEA for things I can't recall but I'm guessing that's why he decided to stop prescribing them out of left-field.
Anyways, yes, hydroxizine in that situation won't touch your anxiety/ptsd symptoms.

I tried 25mg and then 50mg for anxiety and it didn't seem to help. The 50mg just made me drowsy during the day and I didn't like this. A couple years later and a different doctor, started me at 100mg at night, and I find it more helpful than anything before it for anxiety. I'm a bit foggy for 2 hours when I wake but My anxiety has improved. I did notice I was starting to miss doses of my Metoprolol every now and then, This video got my attention that it inhibits the metabolism of my BP med. That seems to explain it. Hi Doc 👋 I have been taking hydroxyzine for approximately 4 years. I suffer from skin issues and it helps keep away the scratching at night. I’m at 50mg dose daily, taken at night. I sleep uninterrupted. I do get a minor headache here and there but I just drink more water 💦 the next day. No constipation. A little sinus dryness but no big deal as I live in a high humidity zone.
I’m a healthy female with no underlying health issues, so this works great for me.
Along with Hydroxyzine I take Progesterone, Minoxidil, folic Acid, Iron. That’s it. So here you have a , 4 year review. Thanks 😊

Seems interesting. I’d consider giving it a shot but drug interactions do sound like it might not be totally compatible. I’d prefer to try Buspar to see whether that helps cos there doesn’t seem many great options for anxiety alone. I’d be interested if you covered some of the TCAs like amitriptyline and Nortriptyline and what the differences and similarities are and what they help the most. Where I live they are still used sometimes cos some people don’t improve on SSRI

You're welcome! That is an adverse effect, and if you have more sympathetic responses to anxiety, a beta blocker may be better tolerated. A good conversation to have with your doctor. Also, consider vagus nerve stimulation to improve parasympathetic tone and heart rate variability, which will decrease anxiety by decreasing the sympathetic response.

A much safer medication for anxiety but it can cause sleepiness. It’s an antihistamine so the body doesn’t build a tolerance to this drug as opposed to benzodiazepines . Benzos create tolerance after just a few days and truly does if a patient is taking a daily dose for weeks. Tolerance is when the body needs more of the drug to reach the desired affect. The risks is that tolerance developed for most people taking it for weeks at a time every day.

Benzos aren’t the magic pill you think they are, one day you’ll wake up and they won’t work the way they used to and then your rebound anxiety will be 4x worse than you were before starting benzos.

Very informative . I got prescribed hydroxyzine for panic attacks on adderall. Kinda made dry mouth even worse for obvious reasons lol but that's gone away . The main thing for me is the super vivid and intense dreams on hydroxyzine.
I miss them . Now that I've taken to for a while they're gone . They felt so real and I could lucid dream easily.

Wow. Your on amphetamine salts and experience panic attacks and no one suspects the stimulant your on ? The biochemical pathways by which panic attacks occur are not completely known but adrenaline and deficiencies in the GABA-ergic systems (none of which are significantly altered by hydroxyzine) that are good targets. A fast acting benzodiazepine used only when a panic attack is on coming would be something you should have available to you. A systemic beta blocker like propranolol could also help out suffice you have normal blood pressure and no contraindications. Do you really feel you need the amphetamine salts ? They amp up the CNS and panic attacks should be a warning sign that the drug may not be for you. Best wishes and hope you feel better.

This type of medication does nothing for my anxiety, the same can be said for inderal. Doctors prescribe these meds simply because they dont want to prescribe benzos. The same can be said for the anti depression medication trazadone for sleep (one of the worse medication i have ever had). Drs are to worried about the DEA than what is best and what works for their patients.

  • @andrewvernon4664

It doesn't work. I was so disappointed because I wanted an alternative to alprazolam so that doctors don't have to turn pale when they see that I've been prescribed it. Incredibly disappointing. It didn't even make me drowsy or, quite frankly, any changes at all with regards to my panic attacks and the feeling you have when you have multiple panic attacks. You know the kind of dread feeling of impending doom that other people who haven't experienced it cannot relate? Benzodiazepine medications have saved my life. If only you knew, but this comment is already becoming TLDR, so later web Universe!
