In the 06 forester manual, under the diagnostic section for DTC P0171 and P0172, when checking fuel pressure it wants it to be between 49-52 psi. I wonder why such large difference.
I have a intermittent starting fault at the moment and a pretty inconsistent idle. Hard to crank first thing in the morning. I have an 05 Forester. Battery is new, starter is good, cleaned MAF, replaced spark leads, plugs, coil pack, fuel pump and filter. I don't think it's speed sensors or O2... has to be the fuel pressure regulator. If I get the fuel pump to prime 2 or 3 times before I crank it over, the start is quicker but not perfect. I need to test the pressure. Apparently the pressure shouldn't drop over night so an o-ring might be pinched or the diaphragm on the fpr might be shot. I'll check it out soon.
If it is throwing a check engine light get it scanned. Research it, maybe it will give you a tip possibly the book also does help a bit with trouble shooting
I have a 2005, I had the same issues, turns out my egr valve was stuck open causing stumbling and eventually crank no start. Take the 4 screws off the actuator and see if your valve is stuck.
What were your symptoms or issues? I'm having an intermittent starting issue with my 05 fxt. When it doesn't want to turn on, it will have a pretty strong crank. Changed cam and crank sensors. New batt, starter, alt. I hear the fuel pump prime. Haven't checked fuel pressure bc I don't have a tester. 240k miles. Just becoming a PITA right now.
The symptoms I am having with it are, puttering (imagine driving a manual transmission car, and you're about to stall out) and it starts to buck and rattle. stalling out when I come to a complete stop, and sometimes no reaction to the throttle when I step on the gas.
Francisco Mejia Strong crank should be there all the time. If it’s faster than normal like effortlessly then you may have bad compression. Could be off a tooth on timing due to stretched belt.
you removed the fuel pressure regulator (damper). it should stay attached and pressure tested on the downstream (front of car) side of it, so you get proper pressure reading going to injectors?

I have a 05. Hard as hell to find anything

bdz hey man did you ever figure out the problem and solution?
Hey, did you ever figure this issue out? Having the same one, tried everything at this point
Best to replace cover on fuse box when handling fuel over it.

Thanks for the video! Still own your 2005? I own a 2005 Legacy GT Ltd, so if you ever have questions feel free to reach out.

Same .Car cranks and cranks and nothing. Imma check that fuel relay for the fuel pump

Did you disconnect the vacuum line to the regulator? It should go up to 41-46 psi running. If not then the pump is weak.

@@TheSerpic01 Did you ever determine the cause of your issues? I am dealing with very similar circumstances . thanks
@@TheSerpic01 Did you try cleaning the throttle body or check the TB for carbon build up?

The regulator and dampener are not the same thing. The regulator is part of the fuel distribution rail attached to the bottom of the intake manifold.
no no no the 2006 is the unicorn...
Still gothecar
I miss my 06. I got an o8 now.
Nope 2005 is the oddball year...at least engine is.
..... or you could just buy a permanent fuel pressure gauge for about half the cost.
Did you ever solved this?
you are insane for doing this without your fuse box cover off, with those untested fittings full of gas.... just saying....
