This movie was good and enjoyable in a lot of ways, but what really made it an amazing movie to me was the live action portion of it and when you finally realize that it was all coming out of the mind of a child and his father's realization that his son had made him the bad guy in his imaginative play.
okay long rant, but lately i’ve been feeling like lately especially with quarantine my brain has stopped working and formulating my own thoughts and rather my body just on autopilot. but i recently found cinemawins and your channels that force me to think again about my favorite subjects, film and psychology/analysis and reignite my passion about both. so i know that a lot of time goes into videos and editing but i just wanted to tell you thank you for starting this channel and that your work and your videos are appreciated and deserve more recognition :) thank you for listening to my rant
All three of the Lego Movies (The Lego Movie, The Lego Batman Movie and The Lego Movie: The Second Chapter) are all brilliant. The jokes are great (I still find the Jor-El bit in The Lego Batman Movie hilarious), there are emotional moments and all the characters, even the villains, are just fun to watch. And of course the creativity. The twist at the end and how the second part continues on from that twist. Brilliant.
You just perfectly summarized my thoughts about this film, and more eloquently than I ever could. The Lego Movie is such a great example of both a theme perfectly crafted for the story being told, and a story perfectly crafted around the themes it's conveying. The messages about creativity and conformity and family all fit the subject matter of legos wonderfully, and with the plot and character arcs being so expertly shaped around those themes... It just makes the whole thing feel tightly woven together. It says everything it needs to easily and effortlessly. Truly an amazing movie.
Personally I think the first lego movie was a real masterpiece to branch a difficult topic, it's easy to feel like you could just get rid of all the big bad rules up top that stop you from doing what you want but having no rules no guidance you won't get anywhere. Lego is such a great building toy because it is a system, the bricks go together in certain ways, but it's the creativity that figures out how to use those different connections. Meanwhile the 2nd movie felt like it was just backwards. If the brother has his toys and wants to lay a specific game with them he shouldn't have to change his game cause his sister comes in. If she wants to play with him she should be trying to join in with what he's doing then asking about doing different things. She basically steals half his toys then he's the bad guy for not wanting to play her way with his own toys. It's like if you were gonna play a boardgame and the other person just ignores all the rules then gets mad when you don't want to play with them.
Man, I love this movie. They managed to achieve everything you described AND work with various IPs in a way that didn't feel forced, like how Batman suddenly shows up in the story which as an adult, you know it's because the studio wanted to maximize brand recognition, but from a child's point of view, of course Batman's gonna show up, because kids don't care whether it's canon for different franchises to cross over, they just do whatever they think is fun. The Lego Movie 2 is underrated IMO - it's an excellent sequel that builds on the groundwork of the first rather than a retread of the original. It's a shame it wasn't as successful.
I too love the sequel! Seemed such a genius development to me, what happens when your sibling gets involved? I think it's just as good as the first film
i saw the lego movie when it came out when i was eight and watched it numerous times in subsequent years. but every time i've watched it, i've been too young to understand the true raw depth in the plot. i'm going to revisit it again with my dad sometime in the near future and hopefully i'll be able to view it with even more appreciation, now that i have this philosophical context to ponder.
I recently rewatched this movie this weekend, and i have come up with my own interesting interpretation of the movie. I came to the conclusion that Emmet, because of the circumstances he faces in Bricksburg and his own kind personality, is a people pleaser. This is his main flaw that he overcomes as the story progresses. He feels like he can't do anything or come up with his own ideas because they will be rejected by society, so he copies everyone else's traits, including even simple aspects of their personality, like their favorite foods or after-work activities. For example, when he and his co-workers are walking home and his co-workers announce all their plans to unwind, Emmet echoes their remarks by saying that he likes those activities, too. Emmet's mind is empty because he was made to believe that whatever original ideas he has will be shut down, that *he* will be shut down. He begins to copy everyone else's ideas and follow instructions for simple tasks to stuff down the parts of him that society deems "too weird and unique." It gets to a point where he can't be recognized because even his face is the same generic face you would expect on a random person. He blended in so much and tried to please everyone to the point that he isolated himself, which is perhaps the exact opposite of what he wanted. As the movie progresses, the master builders encourage him to be an individual, to come up with his own ideas because they are absolutely worth the time. When cloud cuckoo land gets attacked and the main characters have to escape, his character shows slight growth as he is confident enough to propose the idea of going underwater, although he muttered it and Batman ended up taking the idea. Because Emmet is able to blend in while also being unique and creative, he is able to defeat Lord Business and become a master builder. I love Emmet because i relate to him a lot (i used to copy other people a lot too), and he's just a sweetheart. I could probably write a whole essay about him and his character arc, or i could figure out how to make a video essay of my own on him, because his character is so well written.
Phenomenal video!! You made so many points I’ve thought about so concisely and accurately, it was so satisfying to watch such a well written and spoken video 💛💛 I especially liked this quote: “It manages to say everything it says without compromising any of the simple childish fun that gives the film its heart”. I feel like fun is severely undervalued as a legitimate quality, which is why I especially love kids movies like these!!
I love this, the movie is amazing and I enjoy hearing your thoughts on it. I will say, however the music did need a shake up around the half way point. I enjoyed it until then, but there are few 13 minute songs for a reason.
Hello, I have only just discovered your channel, and really enjoy watching your content. I see how much work goes into all your videos and is a large reason I really enjoy watching. Thank you :)
Thankyou! That's kind of you to take a moment to tell me that 😊 yeah, I can't deny a lot time goes into my videos, probably an embarrassing amount 😆 I like to consistently stick to weekly uploads though. I'm glad you feel the work has been worthwhile, thankyou
It really grinds my gears when people refer to "The Lego Movie" as a toy commercial. That's like calling the Disney hand-drawn films commercials for ink and paper or (early) Pixar films commercials for computer technology. Obviously, kids can enjoy this film for the flashy colors and characters etc. However to really appreciate the way this film is put together, you have to be a bit older.
If My Little Thought Tree says it's a good movie, it must be! I foolishly dismissed it like so many others; going to give it a watch today since I'm feeling under the weather. :)
That's funny, I watched the Lego movie and my conclusion was that it was an allegory for an inverted Garden of Eden story and ultimately a tract for Luciferianism. I made a video explaining it.

I love the chill "pure imagination" backing in this video!
Thank you everyone that I was weird for saying this is one of my favrite movies that came out recently. You captured my thoughts perfectly
The LEGO movie did not came out recently-

It wasn't a rant, it was a sincere, nice comment worth reading 😊

THE LEGO MOVIE! This is great, thank you so much - love the theme of balance you pointed out
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks for letting me know 😊
I’m a 44 year old man and this movie is unbelievable. Definitely one of the best movies I’ve ever seen.
This is a really bittersweet explanation, and I love it. Thank you for this!

Order versus chaos.
Most adult lego fans are this compromise between play and display. Storytelling and realistic building
That's funny, I watched the Lego movie and my conclusion was that it was an allegory for an inverted Garden of Eden story and ultimately a tract for Luciferianism. I made a video explaining it.
