    This movie is an absolute masterpiece, with amazing animation that skilfully avoids feeling like product placement, is infinitely quotable, and *really* should've been nominated for best animated feature. This scene in particular encapsulates just how much heart and soul went into the film.

    The idea of separated dimension between the LEGO world and the real world in the perspective of a minifigure is creative. I can't get enough with Will Ferrel and the kid sprinkling the LEGO sets with water to unglue everyone together and it's just warms my heart.

    I think it's also interesting as a symbol of childhood imagination with no concern for perfection in a craft vs adulthood obsession with perfection in a craft.
    As a kid, whether it was drawing, Legos, etc. I just had fun with it and I see the same thing with kids today. As an adult, I get discouraged if something isn't exactly perfect.

    For me, one of the most important moments in this movie is when the father realizes that he's the villain of his son's story and it tears him up. I'm not a big Will Farrel fan, but his acting on that scene was so spot on, I still think it deserved a best-supporting actor nod.
    But then, I'm a sucker for good "father/son" scenes. One of my favorites is that scene between Pops and Speed in the Speed Racer movie.

    • @tyjuarez
      @tyjuarez 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      A lot about the Lego Movie reminded me of the Speed Racer movie. Someone at Village Roadshow definitely had a taste for highly stylized yet heartfelt nostalgia-fests by directing power duos.

    "You. ARE. The Special. And so am I. And so is everyone!"
    "Sometimes losing people is a part of life, but that doesn't mean you should stop letting them in."
    "All those times I said I hated you...I wish I could have said I wished we weren't fighting all the time."
    "It's easy to harden your heart... but to *open* it?... That's the toughest thing you can do."
    I've said it once and I'll say it again: I LOVE animated movies, but this franchise owns my heart. I'm not sure it's the way how comforting they are, or funny, or the fact that they make you forget everything bad about the world with it's messages, I LOVE every single ones, their series' (Unikitty! and Ninjago) too. I also love to watch fanmade brickfilms on TH-cam. I still remember the first time I saw the first movie when I was seven, I was finally silent in a movie and the night I watched Lego Batman I couldn't sleep from excitement, I told my friends the whole plot of Lego Ninjago Movie at school the next day after I saw it, and watched about the first 30 minutes of the sequel in P.E in Elementary...I hope the third movie Universal is planning doesn't dissapoint us.

    This movie came out when I was in high school, and they showed it to us when I was at an art camp - showing a movie where a key moment was “you can be creative any way you want, no matter who you are, and you have the power to mold the world around you” to a bunch of 14-15 year old aspiring artists felt really poignant lol. This movie really sticks with me to this day, 10 years later, because of that

  • @DanielTomilson
    @DanielTomilson ปีที่แล้ว +4

    This movie had a really cool idea at the end... that the Human World + Lego World + Imagination... were all real and all separate and all feeding off each other via symbyosis... The Single Most Important Part Was EMMET Could Move Himself In The Real World!
    But then Lego Movie 2... took too long to come out (should have been Lego, Lego Batman, Lego 2, then something else, then Lego 3, all in 5-10 years)... and only did a boy imagining that he didn't want to play with his little sister but eventually getting along with her younger sister... the second movie forgot the first one and was only about kids playing with toys.... it also didn't have a villain so much as one awkward conversation that took forever to get to... they didn't feel like characters with agency anymore and it recycled most of the plot points from the last movie
    ---Emmet is an social outsider in a world on the edge of an apocalyptical event, the resistance is losing to a powerful enemy, Emmet goes on a journey to defeat the leader of the resistance, the human boy has an awkward conversation with a family member, peace is achieved.
    ---And somehow it lost.... this is an amazing world with lots of fun characters and places you can buy... they didn't go to enough amazing places and meet enough interesting characters who served their area or the greater plot
    Doing Lego 2 after Lego Ninjago was a hard sell... Lego Ninjago... didn't appeal much to new people (younger or older), didn't appeal to existing fans of the existing show's many seasons and specials (younger or older), and had the best joke spoiled in the trailer (needed more jokes at the level of The Ultimate Weapon)... could have just alternated Lego Move and Lego Batman movies for 3-7 iterations.

    • @gtd5626
      @gtd5626 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For the 2nd movie, I feel like it not having a villain was a good plot point. There's not really a bad guy, just the sister wanting to play with her older brother, and Finn not wanting to play with her because playing with other people especially younger siblings is hard as they dont play the way you wanr to. In Finns world, he sees all the systarians and duplos as threats, which transfers over to his lego characters as them being the bad guy. The only real villan is Rex being a metaphor for how you think you should act and grow up, but that's not what it really means to "grow up" and be "tough."

      It expands more on the first one of ot all being inside Finns imagination and adds Bianca (Finns sister) imagination/storytelling pov in as well.

    the story might have been made by a kid, the entire idea might have been an allegory, but HOW does a lego figure move on its own? no. the child might have been making the story, but emmet is the only lego character, therefore, is ALIVE. the rest is made by a godly being known as finn (the dad is no longer god)

    Its pretty ironic that the whole moral of the story of the movie is that you should play with toys and not just follow the instructions and never take it apart, when Lego has become exactly that. Everything is centered around instructions and premade concepts. No incentives to build something of your own. Ironic

    lego movie is not stop motion, it's all CGI. but i get why so many people are fooled bu it, since evn the special effects like smoke or explosions are animated with lego pieces, it really looks like stop motion!
    also i really enjoyed lego ninjago personally hsfdsdf it was silly and more character driven, than action, but it was a nice watch.

      He said stop-motion TECHNIQUES, not stop-motion altogether. Of course the movie is CGI, but it was animated to RESEMBLE stop-motion. Because Lego characters don’t have elbows or knees in real-life, and the intention was for this movie to ultimately be a kid playing with his dad’s toys.

    I hate that the dad is considered the bad guy. They are his legos. If he wants to make permanent structures then he should be able to. He probably spent hundreds of hours building that. I'd be pisses of too if my kid did that. He can get his own damned legos and play imagination land with them.

      I think that’s why I like the ending. The dad and son compromised.
      Personally, I want a big Lego city that stays together, but then use that city as a base to play on. I sympathize with the dad, but as a lego fanatic growing up, I know I wouldn’t be able to stay away from that city.
      Plus, if they kept the instructions, they could put a lot of the stuff back together when their done.
