  • What is foster care and foster adoption?
Foster care and foster adoption are not the same things. Foster care is temporary care, under state or county supervision, of children who are unable to remain in their homes. Children are removed from their homes and placed with a foster family.
Foster adoption is when a child is placed with an adoptive family before the parental rights of the birth parents have been legally terminated, so there is still a possibility that the child may eventually be reunited with his or her birth family. If the parental rights of the child's birth parents are terminated, the adoptive family will be able to adopt the child.
