    I’ve always liked this song. Rush went out the right way. Clockwork Angels has some really strong stuff on it. I still can’t believe it’s been over a year since we lost Neil. RIP to The Professor.

    Clockwork Angels is their best album--they gathered together everything they'd learned over a forty year career as a band and made a work of beauty.

    This is awesome and bittersweet to watch. With Neil's passing, the band is officially done: we are forced to talk about Rush in the past tense. The heartache...it's almost too much.

      It’s a rock band. Not family.

    • @bradcrosier1332
      @bradcrosier1332 2 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      @@HankFinkle11 - You really underestimate how much their work has meant to many of us. No, it’s not family - but you don’t get to choose your family; that identity is given to you. For many adolescents, the thoughtful, emotive, insightful, evocative, and challenging lyrics (and amazing musicianship) provided a source of inspiration and guidance as we figured out who we really were as individuals.
      That’s pretty damn significant.

    • @dale8809
      @dale8809 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      agreed. I still have trouble sometimes watching and listening to Rush. It's such a shame Neil passed on. I was really looking forward to more of his writing.

    • @HankFinkle11
      @HankFinkle11 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@bradcrosier1332 it’s a rock band. Peart himself despised the hero worship. Appreciate the music but don’t make it out to be life and death.

    • @bradcrosier1332
      @bradcrosier1332 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HankFinkle11 - I’m quite familiar with Peart’s feelings on hero worship, and that most certainly is NOT what I’m talking about if you’d paid any attention.
      For some a meaningful lyric, something actually thoughtful which offered insight into the human condition and helped a confused and isolated teenager to recognize that they weren’t completely alone, could in fact be a beacon of hope which helped them to navigate those difficult years.
      That’s not hero worship, that’s connecting with the words and ideas of the author in a profound and meaningful way; you should learn the difference.

    ONE OF THE GREATEST ROCK BANDS of all time, not lower than The Who, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Queen, Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Genesis and Yes! I was so sad by the passing of Neil Peart but know that he is now in heaven, and plays together with Keith Moon and John Bonham. That provides some solace...

Saw them at the Toledo Sports Arena back in 77 or 78. They opened for Lesley West and Mountain and the main act was Lynyrd Skynyrd. The tour that the Skynyrd band had the plane crash. I think (for the first time with a Rush product) that the mix could be a lot better. Geddy's vocals are quite loud whilst his bass and Neils drums are very low in the mix. Alex completely drowns out the string ensemble. It's expertly performed (of course!) but I think the work done in post is a little poor.
    Anyone else have similar thoughts?

    • @PigHeadedWhale
      @PigHeadedWhale 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I agree, Geddy's bass is very powerful in the studio version of this song practically non existent in this mix. A shame as it was a great tour

    • @HansMcGruber
      @HansMcGruber 6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Totally agree. I haven't liked the live mix on concert DVD's since R30 (the last good one). The clarity if gone. Neil's DW's are just mud and his snare crack is in the background which is so annoying. Ged's bass growl is not there. I guess this was the case for CA album as well. When Caravan came out as a single, it had a terrific mix, then just before the whole album came out, they remixed it, and it was terrible! So muddy. It's such a shame to because the great songs are so under served with such a poor mix. My favorite mix for DVD's was Exit Stage Left, next best was R30. Still love Rush though, nothing would change that.

    • @SynthesisMusic
      @SynthesisMusic 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, completely agree. Vocals sound so loud that are often distorted and drums is barely udible. Same problems overall for the rest of the mix. Sadly, since this is such a great concert!

      To be fair, Rush is one of those bands that people get really immersed into, especially with some of their slower/serious songs. Look at Radiohead, for example. The crowd almost never moves, but that's because they're so into it. It's either that case or this crowd is just a bunch of shitheads.

      runechan Well, when you look at the Rock in Rio stuff, I think it's clear that it is possible to go mental to the guys...

      I personally hate when they mix the audience in a lot, To me it's like when people are singing (poorly generally) next to me at a concert. I paid to hear RUSH, not everyone else.

    Although Clockwork Angels is a great album, the title track is the only masterpiece.

      @@SynthesisMusic what about Headlong Flight and the Anarchist? heck, the whole album is incredible, Halo Effect is probably the weakest song, and it's still very, very good.
