for the waist of the skirt, you can crochet a thin garter (preferably the same shade) onto the waist so that it can cinch it and at the same time it won't show

7:52 my grandparents dried clothes that way actually... it still dries but it also freezes, so you have to leave it out a bit longer as far as i know

6:40 your friend should try different ways to hold her hook it might help! Theres tutorials on youtube the most common ones are the knife grip, and the pen grip which is what you showed her. Sometimes finding the right way for you to crochet helps with learning. Hope this helps and that skirt from earlier in the vid is so pretty!
