Damn this song rings too true for me. It feels like society as a whole has just become complacent. We are presented with a script that we're supposed to follow blindly. Anyone who veers off the path is seen as some sort of weirdo. Then there are those who become obsessed with being different, but in the end they only end up fooling themselves by following a path someone else has actually tricked them into.
It can be so hard to find people who don't want to be a follower like everyone else, who want to make and follow they're own path. I guess you can call them the "Nowhere Kids".
I am one of them, chances are if you're reading this and you listen to Des Rocs, you probably are too. I can see the road ahead of me, and it is as equally exciting as it is terrifying. Somedays it even feels like my dreams are an impossible task. Maybe you can relate to that too. All I can say right now, is don't give up. Every day that you wake up and walk even 1 step towards that goal, you've made progress. You can make it. Never give up on yourself.
Thank you Des Rocs, for giving all us Nowhere Kids hope. I can't explain in words how much you've changed my life. I hope to meet you one day and thank you myself. Rock on -vlv-

This song hits me a little differently.
I've had Type 1 Diabetes since I was 1.5yrs old. Because of that, I always had to have diet sodas at parties, I never went to sleepovers with my friends, I had to be careful when having fun to avoid going low, and I never went to a summer camp until I was 16.
Combine that with the fact I never knew anyone my age with the same condition and my parents were pretty protective, meant I spent my entire childhood not fitting in. In High School, I tried so hard to just fit in and find belonging, but I ended up forgoing all of my values and principles to do so, as well as being very irresponsible.
Looking back now at 22, I'm finally coming to terms with these elements of my past, accepting that they happened and that there's a reason I constantly feel dissonant with the world. This song, genuinely, helps me remember that my past happened, that it's OK to remember it, I can stop trying to erase it from my memory, and that, more importantly, being true to myself is the best way to find community and belonging.
The world isn't dead yet, I'm not dead yet, and I've got a life ahead of me. I might feel like I don't belong here, but that can't stop me from finding my spot.
