I burst out laughing when you mentioned the instructions on the interfacing. I read them , tried doing it that way, then tossed that right out the window and do it my own way. Great tutorial.
I’ll use birthday themed fabric for lining, making this reversible. 😊
Great idea 👍🏻
Smart!
Love your hair!
Aw thank you 🤗
You always make me smile!! Love your tutorials. Would watch you even if I didn't sew. Thanks, Nikki for being a breath of fresh air.
🤗
I love the idea of giving "useful" gifts.
I want to make rag dolls for all my grandchildren, boys too, and this is such s good idea to give them in...embroidery their names on the bag!!
That would be so cuuuute 🤗
Terrific idea...and your sense of humor is a bonus! Love watching you create.
Thank you for the awesome camera views of your sewing machine. So many people fall short here. I think your Christmas in July is a hit!!! Thank you!
Thank you for saying that because those are the hardest shots 😂
I have wanted to make bags for the pajamas I sew every year. Extra motivation to start early. A thrifted sheet would.d be great lining too.
It would be fun to put pajamas in a matching pillowcase too. Kids love pillowcases.
Fun project Nikki❣️❣️💝💓💓🪡🧵😍Love YOUR ideas too ❣️❣️💡 💡
I’ve been giving Christmas gifts in festive bags for a few years now. Not only are they a good excuse to buy more pretty fabric but it’s also eco friendly. Metallic wrapping paper isn’t recyclable and I’ve never liked the heap of torn paper lying on the floor Christmas morning.
I also make advent bags with the days embroidered on them . My grandchildren like to find the correct one in the pile. These get used every year.
That's a great idea, thank you:)
I love that idea!
Since I have been sick,
I spend a lot of time looking at quilting and sewing videos. I love watching you-not only are you very talented, but you make me laugh! Thank you!!!! Hope to see you soon.
I hope to see you soon too, feel better! 💕
I started this year making tote bags and drawstring bags to give along with gifts for my kid’s friends. The moms love it!
I have visions of making pillow cases and wrapping them in these gift bags. 🎉
Love the tree material. Thank you for the videos you are so fun and bubbly.
Great video! Super cute bags💕. (Your hair is beautiful☺️)
Aw thanks 😊
I have used bias tape for a drawstring. Fold in half and sew down the middle. Can be a stash buster.🤓
Thanks Nikki 🎄
Super cute!
Another great video, by Nikki that explains everything just right. Thx, Nikki.
I have used orphan blocks sewn together for gift bags, uses them up and an one of a kind bag
Great idea 🙌🏻
Yes, pieces of patchwork would be beautiful for even one side of these bags - love that idea! ❤
So cute. Great instructions! ❤
Great tutorial, Nikki - I'll definitely try to get some of these made for Christmas. I have enjoyed your Christmas in July videos. You've given us some great ideas ❤
I use your interfacing method, never had a problem. Thanks for the video ❤
Nice series with great information. Thank you!
I have made quite a few bags for Christmas gift wrapping, but they do not have the boxed bottom and the top is more plain. I just purchased your pattern and I have plenty of Christmas fabric to get started. 🎄
Love your tutorials, they make me smile and sometimes laugh. Cute bags!
Very good idea! I love making gift bags. Maybe you could do a video on how to enter stuff into the state fairs.
Yes, I plan to!
I made one of these in the 90's. I loved them and had them in my kitchen for a decade or so. I have been looking for a tutorial to for quite a while. I am so happy to have found your site. I will definitely be making one for my home and for a Christmas gift. Thanks so much 👍 ❤
Omg yay, perfect timing! I've been making a ton of improv scrappy pouches for all of my electronics recently, i need more one day projects to do 😁
I made a couple of dozen Christmas gift bags in the late 90's and they were a hit and so pretty under the tree and we still use them. Later I was given a hint to cut the lining smaller than the bag because the inside dimensions of the bag were smaller than the outside and it would prevent the lining from bunching and make it easier to press the lining to the inside at the top edge. It really worked. I cut the top and one side 1/4" less for a small bag and 1/2" less (top and one side) for larger bags. Nikki, would you do a short video showing us how to properly add those decorative stoppers (or whatever they're called) to the end of the drawstring ties?
That’s a good idea, I’ll have to get some!
I made some fabric gift bags that I really love. I used a Christmas fabric for the outside, something birthday ish for the lining and a solid that coordinated with both for the drawstring portion - all half yard cuts.
My bags have draw strings on both the top and bottom, like a tootsie roll wrapper. They are super cute, very flexible on the size of gift that will fit inside and super easy to make.
I’m planning to make a couple of larger ones to add to my collection for those times that the gift is a bit too large to fit into a half yard bag … and several smaller ones for tiny gifts.
I interface the lighter colored fabric or both fabrics depending on whether any pattern is showing through … or use batting on a couple
So smart!!
Love the idea. It’s been years since I made mine because I could only sew a straight line then. I used my husband’s extra military boot / shoe laces and put toggles from kids boots ( anything worn / grown out was fair game ) to gather.
Thanks to your easy videos I am sewing better and have the mini iron, plus a new foot for thicker materials.
Great Series 👍 👌 👍.
Nikki, you are so fun and creative! I have thoroughly enjoyed Christmas In July ❤
Everyone in my family gets their birthday and Christmas gifts in a fabric shopping bag. They keep the bag. Some get gifted forward, some don't.
Years ago I made several Christmas gift bags but forgot about making sure the directional fabric was correct on the back. I pulled them apart and they're still in my pile of things to finish some day. Thanks for the reminder! Maybe I'll finish them this year!
This was fabulous thank you
I’ve been using that tube sewing tip you’ve given and it’s been a lifesaver!!!
Awesome idea❤ Thanks
Have you made a video on making small cloth trash can liners for non kitchen trash? I need help.
Adorable bag!
I noticed on the package of batting it says to prewash. I haven’t heard anyone say they actually do that. Curious if you do? Thanks for showing how to make these. You give great tips and explain things well.
No, I never do that haha
Great video and such a cute little bag! I love it! Does your wool pressing mat have any kind of odor when you use it? I’ve looked at some but a lot of the reviews of wool mats mention that they “smell like a barn” when being used. 😬
I’ve seen others say that also, but I only noticed that when I got it wet once. I don’t use steam with it because it will damage the surface underneath with steam. So if I need heavy duty ironing with steam, I just use my big iron and board.
@@PinCutSew thank you!😊
Nikki, do you know if I would be able to use the linen heat setting with this mat? I couldn't find any "iron settings" info on Amazon. The last "100% New Zealand wool" mat that I bought melted when I tried to press some linen fabric.
Oh wow! There must have been some poly in that one! I’ve used mine on the linen setting and it’s been fine. I do avoid using steam or water though because it smells lol.
❤❤❤
I lay a piece of old scrap fabric over my project, wet it, then iron. Like the instructions say 😂
😆🤗
Nikki!!! Can we get Christmas in August? 😂
😂😂 I’m movin on, but it’ll come back around in a few lol months for actual Christmas 😁
😂
I read the interfacing instructions almost every time 😅
🤣
You mean there are instructions? 😂😂
