"CG wasn't there yet" Correction: Jurassic Park, 1993; Terminator 2, 1991; Contact, 1997; The Fifth Element, 1997... nah, it was there, but the producers were, well, cheap. Practical effects were "aging out" and CG was in, but they didn't realize how expensive CG could get until they sent the check and it was spent on Spawn's eyes/cloak alone lol

Agreed! I watched that movie in the cinema back then and I was shocked by how bad the hell scene looked, it was like taken from a mediocre computer game (even back then). Besides the cheap look of the demon and the fire, I even recognized that all the "spawns" just repeated their moves like in a loop! It ruined the movie for me. It is still one of the worst cgi scened in the history of cinema! In this list it should be no. 1!

I weirdly find bad cgi in movies enduring. Its like a time stamp that shows us where we were in the progress of 3D modeling. The fact that even to this day it doesn't look (completely) real says we get to continue to watch this type of art slowly develop even further.

@@WatchMojo A personal favorite of mine are the dinosaurs in Jurassic Park. Now, many of those shots use live models. Actually, the scene where the T. Rex breaks the glass above the kids wasn't originally supposed to happen and their screams were genuine from what I remember. But those fairly early CGI dinosaurs were way ahead of their time. Not saying they look good by today standards, but if I didn't already know the movie came out in the early 90s, I would have guessed those visuals to be late 2000s, or early 2010s because it holds up that well.

The thing with the Matrix Reloaded sequence is that the bad CGI can simply be explained as the Matrix itself glitching out due to the amount of Smiths in the area at the same time. Its like when your graphics card takes a moment to load and is all choppy for a while until your system fights through it and begins to look smooth again because at that point it's used to processing so much information. Head canon is a wonderful thing.

Wtf are you guys talking about?
Almost all of the above were incredible for their time, except Spawn, Green Lantern.
Practical effects will for the most part age better than CGI, but dizzing CGI at the time; like the ones in star wars original trilogy.... You guys are plain ignorant and trying to sound savy.

No Mortal Kombat: Annihilation? That has the worst CGI of anything EVER.
Then again, THAT movie was already ruined about 2 minutes after it started... so the CGI wouldn't have actually been its downfall.

Many of the films presented here have quite normal CGI, taking into account their budget and year of release. If even in Spider-Man 2002 with a budget of $ 139 million there are not the most successful scenes with computer graphics (in the scene when the Goblin turns people into skeletons), in the Hulk 2003 with a budget of $ 137 million there are many bad CGI scenes, then what can be demanded from the League of Extraordinary Gentlemen who has a budget 78 million dollars?

3:05 South Park BL&U made Hell look way better, and that was only 2 years after this.
4:57 "wow." "I know, right?" are you talking about the bad quality of it?
6:04 yeah that fight in front of the lamp wall looks terrible.
7:07 how does a talking alien slug from 1977 look better than a devil in 1997?
8:04 aww cmon it doesn`t look THAT bad.
12:33 well somebody skipped Leg Day
14:07 the babies don`t look too good either, but at least you can still tell who the Cameos are.
15:46 this entire movie is bad.

The Thing Prequel should have had at least a notable mention.
All the creature fx were originally done as practical effects as a tip of the hat to fx of the first Thing movie.
But studio execs (who know zero about good movies) thought the practical fx looked “dated” and swapped them out for rushed CGI at the last minute, and ruined what should have been a great prequel to a cult horror classic.

This has been debunked many times! Alien 3 did not use CGI for any of the alien shots. They're all composited puppetry.
The only time CGI was used was to add the cracks that go through its head before it explodes.
That said... the puppetry compositing looks terrible.

1:17 I've been waiting for you. I don't know how you could create Young Arnold without CGI. I didn't find the T-800 too fake looking.
CGI was not needed for Hell. It could be done with practical effects.
4:06 And a mustache so powerful it crippled the DCU.
My phone went off when Green Lantern turned on. How is CGI in 2011 this bad? This is where we put the Mars Attack effects. THE CG IS AWFUL!
I've seen fans put in Jabba as a hologram in this scene. That would make more sense. Why would Jabba leave the palace if he doesn't have too? A hologram of Jabba wouldn't look out of place since the hologram is digital anyway.
Cage going full Cage when he transforms is awesome.
8:25 The movie goes into Video Game land.
11:51 Not the whole thing. Imagine how more swol this guy would look if he drank it properly. What is that thing? It's a bad CGI monster.
I'm glad we got to see the Nic Cage Superman actually move.
15:03 It also ended Pierce Brosnan's career as James Bond. We could of had another Bond movie with him.
I guessing the aliens in Indiana Jones have silicon based bones.
Those things in I am Legend are vampires? They look like zombies.
The reason why the Scorpion King looked bad is because the actual actor wasn't available. That scene made me laugh.

Hell in Spawn looks like it from a 90's video game. Jabba in A New Hope looks smaller, slightly slimmer, and dark grayish compared to Return of the Jedi. Wolverine's Origins, maybe by a tv settings, the claws look fin. #18, 15, 12, 11, 8, 6, 3, and 1 were all good to me. I'm not a film critic. But I liked thos movies, including their cgi.
