  • Mark has a busy day chasing swarms across town this week on the Bush Bee Man. This leads him to attempt his most dangerous swarm catch using a ladder with a bucket attached to a stick. Will he get away unscathed?

    This video shows a beekeeper catching swarms using a swarm-catching box, a bee brush and a bee suit. Catching wild bee swarms isn't as stressful because while bees are swarming they are relaxed and solely focused on finding a new home along with the queen bee.

    You needed a pole pruning tool. Here in America, they are extendable from 6' to around 15' and have a pruning saw blade on one side, and also an "eagle beak" sheer blade on the other whose jaws will open about an inch and a half. You could have cut the original twig where the swarm was with those jaws and had it fall gently into the pole bucket if Mark would help.(he needs to set the camera up on a tripod every now and then anyway.) The pole for the bucket can easily be made from using an extendable painters pole commonly used for paint rollers. Same deal, the long ones will extend from about 6 feet to over 15. Great vid guys, hope this can help. P.S.....for the love of God, use the proper lid for those buckets! Cut a square hole in the lid and cover with screen so it actually can stay on the bucket.

    Mark have you considered using a bee box (hive) with a few drawn frames in it instead of the plastic box. You could put screen over the entry for transport. Then you could just put the bees where you want when finished with the catch. Just seems wound be easier on you.

      As we age. The damage is life altering. After a fall from that height, if you survive.

    You need to find a window cleaner because we have carbon fiber poles that are light and extend to up to 90 ft. Cheers 🥂

    I like your pole bucket idea. I keep a break down pruner w/poles i use a old carbon fiber pole vaulting pole to bolt to my clear smaller tote box.

    When they are low like that i sit a box on the limb strap it down if needed and put a drop of swarm commander on the inside and they will walk right in.

    You can summon a swarm to a hive box by clanging two jemmies together for 30 seconds. No need for storage boxes, brushes, saws, ladders ...

    Hi Mark have caught a few high swams,. 20ltr bucket on your pole and a 2nd pole ,like a long bamboo with a fishing gaff hook on the end. Put the bucket under the swam use the other hook to grab the branch and shake the swam and they fall into the bucket.

  • @farmer998
    @farmer998 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    trick is to get fishing line tie a weight on the end cast it over the limb close to the swarm lower the weight back to the ground tie a drawn out frame to the end and pull it back up to the swarm they will cluster on it lower it back down to your reg bee box and put it in no latter needed.

    John I spray the areas the swarm were clustered on with air freshener etc, helps mask the queen's pheromones to encourage them to stop going back and go to her majesty.
    As for the tree bees....sometimes you need to say nope

    Mark, I thought you were a goner perched on top of that ladder. Any swarms under 10 feet are worth collecting, over 10 feet can look after their selves. Please be careful collecting swarms.

    Id make a plywood lid for that with frames screwed to it so its a lid and a super if they build on the frames, then id drill an entrance in the side of it and use it as a swarm trap lol.. just put a starpicket where ever you want a 15ft high swarm trap lol.. bush bee man gonna have high-rise condos for bees all over his town soon.. heck if your real fancy you coukd make them look like little red barns or little bush cottages with little bull nose verandas haha and councils might fund you tonbuild them and put them around towns

  • @1425race

    Not the most sophisticated swarm catching technique Mark and dangerous to your health. What you need is a lightweight bee vac. This is made up of a small Milwaukee or Dewalt 18v vacuum, a polystyrene full depth box empty, enough vacuum hose to connect to the box strapped to your back or left on the ground and an extension ladder. Have a look at bee vac TH-cam vids on how to build it.
