Got one as soon as they dropped and have carried every day since. Had no problems of any kind so far. If you already have an ultratech not sure it’s worth it in my opinion unless you just want to of course. Good point about people messing them up and sending them back. Hopefully that doesn’t happen to often.
I purchased direct from MT when they released them and have had zero issues so far (knock on wood). Works like a charm. I still wish they were putting S/N and dates on the knives. 🤠👍
I bought one from the first MT drop, the exact config that you have and it did have the slightest wiggle in it. I did the adjustments to mine, and it took a few times to get it completely tuned up, but its Deadlock tight now, absolutely zero blade play, and it fires smooth and flawlessly. The only downside of being able to make your own adjustments to this knife, is that people that aren't really good with taking things apart could really mess things up imo.
I love this review from a microtech fanboy. I am one too. It’s good to know that the zero blade play isn’t actual zero Blade play if you put a little muscle behind it.
Well, fair enough, but there is a reason that people continue to strive for perfection and innovate. It's the enthusiast inside of all of us. Not so much of a "why" but more like a "can we*
I grabbed an S/E version. Mine came with super minimal blade play. I did tune the adjustment screw one tooth on the screw. Totally solid now no movement. And my gate is about 80%+ closed. I guess I got lucky.
From my experience if you tighten the set screw too much it'll cause the blade to not fully deploy, I recommend tuning both the zbt mechanism and its set screw at the same time.
Absolutely no play on mine, no firing issues or issues at all. It's pretty expensive but I think when it comes to an OTF it's definitely a buy once cry once scenario. Unless you're just collecting them, you really only need 1 OTF and I think this Ultratech fits that bill. It's easy to deploy, there is no blade play, the milled clip is a huge upgrade from the old folded sheet metal clip, mine came sharp enough to shave which is great for a DE which has a blunt edge geometry by nature. The size is also highly desired over the old Ultratech, thicker and wider in the handle, wider blade, even the button is wider which gives you a better purchase on the button. There are many little details upgraded here from the old version.
So I watched someone else do the adjustment on that. You have to set it to %50 lockup or it will have play. Having the gate only halfway closed doesn't sound very strong to me... I want to see torture test first!
@edged_mindset After several deployments, the knife wouldn't retract unless I hit it on something. I have a short on it only because some didn't believe me.
One thing, MT dosent recall any of their products, like automotive companies do. You get with what you purchase. I had a Combat Troodon that was locked in. When I sent it in to get repaired, I got it returned with a note stating its in acceptable tollerences. Im glad they started accepting that their jknives are not as perfect as they believe they are.Im not so sjure I will purchase a new UT because I already have so many and I really dont like some of the new handels like Ultom. I think its cool if you like the whole Golden S hower look. Yellow is not a cool look for a knife. I hope they comne out with new colors for their upcoming products.
02 little too late already paid too much for my ultra tech and the screw came stripped wouldn’t buy an OTF from microtech anymore. I’d go guardian or axle at this point.
I own both ZBT ultratech and deadlock. In terms of basic knife functionality both are good but IMO the deadlock just feels slightly nicer overall in deployment and sound. Is it worth being 3-5x the price? From a person just looking for a daily use knife, definitely no. For a knife collector who is willing to save the money, i think the deadlock is still a nice piece to own.
Majority of current Microtech OTF handle designs look way too similar. I respect the new Ultratech but thankfully have zero interest in owning one. I definitely agree with you on the support aspect of this platform. You constantly hit us viewers with the valid points.

Finally.. a microtech vid!

Nice! I have tried multiple times and still get misfires when I tune it to absolute zero bladeplay.

cant wait to get one in single edge natural handle format!
Natural clear is the best finish I've seen. I use a Ludt for work and it's held up well.
If zero blade play is an issue then buy a fixed blade. There’s a reason these knives have a certain tolerances.
Blade play doesn't matter on otfs, but it does on a folder.

Also I have the milled glass breaker on the S/E version

I will wait for the ZBT Combat Troodon.
Cause this po boy don't have Atreus cheddar 🧀.😆

Should check out CBRx if you want to see a torture test on the UT ZBT, he really abuses it
When I set it to anything less than 80% lockup or so it misfires constantly
Been wanting to check one out!
Mine was fked up. I should get it back from warranty next week. We shall see if they fixed it.
What was wrong?
@edged_mindset After several deployments, the knife wouldn't retract unless I hit it on something. I have a short on it only because some didn't believe me.
@Ab82903 Damn!
And if you pull the blade up does it move like the normal UT?
No. Zero pull.

Like a purple one

Yeah I passed on MT and went with Guardian Tactical. Great knife that I've fallen in love with. The switch is so very smooth.
Any youtuber worth his weight would have bought a custom deadlock for this comparison...ijs
Oh absolutely
😅
@dongkhamet1351 🤣
