I was sad to see Gilgamesh die, but Ajak had a scary death, I wonder if because they were sucked out by Kro, if they could ressurect, like the Celestial said they could without the memories. Also, the first scene, of the deviant eating a human was savage! If the whole movie was violent like that, with deviants ripping apart Ajak and Gilgamesh, this could be the most shoking hero movie ever, with deep horror, danger and gore. But I liked how it was done, but the deaths were not so beliavable.

Finished watching Eternals today at AMC Theatres and the second viewing again makes the experience a whole better than the first viewing for sure because you get to see more of the little details within the film that will play a huge part for the overall storyline. I think what I love about Marvel's Eternals is the lengthy exposition and it fits this film really well because when you are talking about Gods such as the Celestials, lots of exposition is required as the Eternals explain to the audience as to how everything was created. When Kevin Feige said that Sersi would be the key, taking the lead in this film he was right all along. The whole concept of how life was created with Arishem planting seeds within each world(s) and sacrificing them for the great good felt like they were necessary evil. Bring Jack Kirby's creation to the screen is a tough act and the risk kind of paid off nicely especially with Chloe Zhao helming this project. Kirby's world in general is huge and you need a director who understands that giant universe and Chloe Zhao fit all those categories. The heart of the story is Sersi and Ikaris where they have this on again off again relationship which is complicated due to Ikaris' duty to the Celestial(s). The beauty of this film is that it explores the grey area and you sense that with Ikaris, Sersi, Phastos, Gilgamesh, Druig, Makkari, Sprite and especially Ajak. The Ajak-Ikaris relationship is integral to the story because you get that mother-son relationship between both characters. The concept of protecting life, sacrificing life is the question that the Eternals face and the catalyst is Ajak. One of my favorite scenes between Ajak-Ikaris is her explaining to him about humans should not be sacrificed for the emergence and the scene with Ikaris especially with his face where he doesn't say anything was just beautiful.
You need emotional content and Richard Madden's Ikaris delivered it perfectly. When it came to Ikaris in every scene you see emotional content very similar to another character in the BBC series Bodyguard. Even the other Eternals had their own nice emotional journey and for me Gilgamesh-Thena storyline really hit me close to home because Gilgamesh could've had a normal life but gave that to protect Thena due to her dementia. Gilgamesh is all about chivalry. When it comes to the Deviants they kind of reminded me of the Sentinels from the Matrix especially with the way they moved just very fast. The whole concept with the creation of Eternals and Deviants is creating balance in the universe kind of manipulative by Celestials. They are definitely devious and more needs to be explored for future storylines.
One thing that surprised when watching the end credits was seeing David Kaye the Canadian voice actor from Beast Wars, Beast Machines and X-Men Evolution voicing the Celestial Arishem. I never saw that coming at all.
When it came to the mid and post credit scenes both were really good as the universe just gets bigger and bigger since we could see some sort of team-up between the Eternals that escaped, Dane Whitman and maybe The Daywalker as they try to save their friends from Arishem.
This movie really opened the doors for more Eternals storyline easily since so many questions need to be answered, needs closure because that cliffhanger ending left with more questions than answers. I am curious to see what the next chapter is going to be for the Eternals because the tagline saying "Eternals will return" to me says we could get a sequel for this film or they could appear in other MCU films. Again second viewing also makes the experience a whole lot better than the first viewing. For it's an 8 out of 10.

Great synopsis and the first one I‘be seen that has picked up on how Richard Madden portrayed the emotions he was feeling through physicality. Those who said his acting was wooden missed the point. He was the stoic loyal soldier who didn’t question his orders but his physical reactions gave away how he was conflicted and the affect Sersi and how she saw humanity had on him

I just watched the movie thinking that it was gonna be bad BUT it’s actually amazing and my favorite mcu movie , it’s not a typical mcu movie in the slightest and it’s a good thing , it feels refreshing and it broadens the mcu with its mythology and makes it feel like mcu is a real universe with multiple sides just like the real world , the movie is more character driven than action packed and that’s great cuz we’re gonna have a lot time with these characters to get great action scenes but you only get one shot for a first impression and see who these characters are and using that shot to introduce them as “humans “ lays a stronger foundation for them as characters, they did a great job

    • @jean-mi1825

SOME MCU fans didn't like it because it felt more like a DCEU (Snyderverse version) one: less humour, more "broken" and non-perfect characters, slowerpacing...
BUT the main problem with the movie was, IMO, actually, its US (mostly) promotion. Talking about "inclusiveness" and "diversity" over Story and characters ("we have a gay couple that will save lives" WTF did it had to do with the film ?). And when people complained about it (or questioning the changes made from the Comcis) they were called all kind of "phobic" and "cist" names instead of being answered "give the movie a chance", "you'll understand it when you see it"...
Insulting your core audience is NOT the best way to ask for their money.
Had they talked about the film instead if its feared "forced woke message", Eternals would have been more successful. Because the changes and diversity were (MOSTLY... NOT ALL BUT MOSTLY) justified by the story and storytelling... despite drastically changing the lore of the Comics.

I liked Eternals a lot. Origin story films are always burdened with too much exposition, but the burden of introducing 10 new characters and the deviants and the Celestials.....
It was a lot of information that needed to be conveyed. A lot of the exposition was done visually, not purely in boring dialogue, and that was an Herculean challenge that Kaz and Ryan tackled brilliantly in their script. Chloé Zhao ,Rhamin Djawadi and Ben Davis made an incredible team with a vision that came through on the screen as well as any Marvel film has done. The film is not one of the light comedic films that Guardiens of the Galaxy, Thor, Ragnorok and Shang-Chi get to be. The nature and scope of the story is so much bigger than that style of filmmaking would support. Brilliant film in my estimation. Amazing, brilliant film. Never thought the Eternals or the Celestials would ever make it to the movie screen, but that's why Kaz and Ryan were the right team to develop the idea and Chloé and her team were brilliant executing the idea.

Another key difference is that in the trailers Ajak explicitly says that the return of half of the population is what provided the necessary energy to trigger the Emergence. In the movie, she never mentions that kind of mechanics -- they cut that part, and now it feels like she is just sayig that the fact that humans managed to do something like that is part of what makes us special and, thus, worth saving.
While she doesn't say those exact words, the editing cuts from her saying humans brought everyone back to her reflection on how we love and create and feel etc., leading to the worth saving conclusion.

And Gilgamesh, a comic characters who’s brute strength rivals Thor’s get fucked by a worm of a tail? Then ikaris for some reason goes “ya fuck y’all” then back to “ok nevermind I die now” like huuuuh?

That’s what I thought as well. I think it would’ve been better to keep Ajak alive, introduce the idea of stopping the emergence, and have Icarus maybe team up with the Deviants only to end up betraying all of them altogether. Gilgamesh should’ve been kept alive. Killing Gilgamesh was a stupid idea. They should’ve had him and Thena fighting Kro at the end. That could’ve made for a bigger fight scene. If they had to kill Thena or Gilgamesh, then they could’ve took that opportunity then.
The thing that bothered me the most was Icarus realizing what he did was wrong after all the bullshit he pulled off. And Sersi, I love her, but girl- he left you after 5,000 years, only to find out he knew about the emergence all along, he KILLED your leader, allowed Gilgamesh to die, betrayed you, and had Sprite practically stab you. Oh, and he also had the intent on killing Druig… and you still had the audacity to place your forehead onto his?
Girl. I would’ve knocked him out and turned him into a tree too.

I would have loved to have seen 12 Eternals because that would be even more reminiscent of the majority of mythological pantheons.
    It's always 12 major deities.
Even the legend of Atlantis mentions it.
It's even on the Major Arcana in Tarot.

I love the movie so much for the diversity and love the characters and the cast so much. Still have shocking moments. But I wished it was a 2 Part movie instead of all in 1 movie. There wasn't enough scenes for some of the eternals to shine. That's the saddest part. Some of them didn't even get to fight in the movie.

i didnt go to the cinema to watch this movie after reading what the critics said right after their privileged movie preview. Damn those critics who rated the movie a low down! they took away the opportunity of those who would have had otherwise watched it in full cinematic glory or would have skipped it for the lame and silly shangchi and the ten rings. Eternals is an epic and a masterpiece ! i enjoyed every moment of it, despite having ten new characters introduced in a single movie, it is like watching an Avenger Assembled movie! i am definitely looking forward to Eternal 2 and damn the critics whom i am going to trace them down and write them off completely , i am not going to miss it at the cinema the next time round!

Movie should have had more mentions or ties to the MCU universe then it did. Alone if you were not told this was a Marvel movie it would seem it like had nothing to do with it. Most of the references in trailers were not even used. They should have had cameos or flash back something to show they were around the last 13 or so movies but hiding in plain site. Beautiful movie, just feels out of place.

  • @25beee

I watched Eternals after I watched Shang-Chi, to be honest I prefer Shang-Chi over Eternals, maybe because its more energetic while Eternals is calmer, both of the cast’s film are amazing especially Eternals, it isn’t an easy job to make a character stood out when there’re so many main characters in one place, they’re shining in their own respective ways (for me especially Richard Madden’s acting when Ikarus throwing Ajak and seeing how Ajak being killed by the deviant, was really 👏, I like the complexity of his character the most), the proportion of screen time of each Eternals’s characters were equals, we could understand the story easily, but for me there’s something missing from Eternals, I felt the story were being rushed.
It’s like Shang-Chi really fit to be a standalone film while Eternals more fit to be a tv series, like WandaVision and Loki, maybe I get used to watch each of personal character until they merge together, like in the Avanger, which I saw the background story of Captain America, Ironman, and Thor first and then watched them together in one film.

I loved the Eternals - so many characters to use in future stories, and all of them with lives spanning centuries, each with scope for so many life experiences and interactions. The film packed much more emotional heft than many Marvel films and it deserved a better reception from fans and general cinema goers than it got. I think history will treat it better than the critics did upon release.
