Thanks for showing your system, and congrats on far surpassing the 100 subscriber mark! I just added one more for ya :) I stumbled across this looking at vacuum filter systems- cylinder vs square.
Thanks for taking the time to write this! We really appreciate and we’ll subscribe to you as well! TH-cam is a grind but like they say, “it only takes one”. Thanks for watching-fingers crossed it’s a great maple season!!!!!
@SweetMapleRidge Indeed... I'm hoping it's a snowball rolling down hill... and I just got the ball rolling lol! Im glad I saw this, the CDL was on my list as an option for this spring!
@@UptoSomethingOutdoors just don’t give up, you’ll get there! As for the vacuum filter…. We just bought a filter press from Smoky Lake Maple Products. We’ll probably do a review of it at some point once the season is over. But we can’t take another year of the vaccuum filter. I’m sorry to say but it’s the worst. Thanks again for watching!
I've had the 9" for one season, I agree it does produce some clear syrup but is expensive and a pain to use. I started with a large shop 5hp vac but was getting too much suction and sucking syrup into the vacuum so went with a 3.5hp cheapo from Walmart works better. Guess my biggest complaint is I finish in 4-5 gallon batches and takes multiple prefilters to complete a batch which seems to waste a lot of syrup. I've even scrapped the cake to one side with a large metal spoon to help the syrup go through. Used about 1/2 cup DE per gal of syrup. I do admit 2024 had some "dirtier" syrup than I've seen in the past, maybe because I had such an early start
It’s funny how things are so similar across sugar woods across the country. Where are you located? We ‘like’ our CDL vacuum filter it’s certainly better than the orlon filters. But man it’s huge pain the butt. I’m gonna try to convince Ms. Sweet Maple Ridge to get us a filter press. It’s just too much of a pain to use the vacuum filter and it wastes so much. Anyways thanks for watching and let us know how you do!
Well hopefully this upcoming in I g season is better than the last! Are you going to get a filter press? What other enhancements do you think you’ll make?!
I will definitely let you know right after I sell mine🤣. When you get right down to it I guess I’m actually getting used to mine after this season. We only make a couple gallons of season. It is slow, but it does filter pretty well. But what I’ve noticed is definitely put the DE in the syrup. And you have to do a couple different batches and change the pre-filter which is a little bit of a pain in the butt but it does work, let’s face it I’m not gonna be able to sell it. I’m not gonna put it on a shelf and buy a different one, so I will deal with this one at this point. Great videos I look forward to your next ones thanks again. Fred
You hit the nail on the head, we plan on doing the exact same thing. If we can sell it we will, but until then we’ll keep on using it because you’re right, it does work well. It’s just a pain. We’ll keep using it until a better option comes along. Hopefully others will read these comments and watch the video and won’t make the same mistake we did haha. Take care, thanks again for watching!
I don’t think so. We’re gonna buy a filter press, and try and get rid it this. I’d ask if you wanna buy it but I couldn’t in good conscience sell it to anyone!
Yeah they told me it was the best thing ever. Im not to happy with it either. I wish they would take it back but will not. I asked. Ps I subscribed good luck with 100. Fred
Thank you sir! We’re just beginners at the TH-cam thing but do enjoy sharing what we’ve learned (through mostly trial and error) with others, so save them from making the same mistakes we’ve made (ie the vacuum filter). Thanks for watching and subscribing, we really do appreciate it my friend!

Is this thing worthy for bulk canning? Like 30 gallon drums?
I don’t think so. We’re gonna buy a filter press, and try and get rid it this. I’d ask if you wanna buy it but I couldn’t in good conscience sell it to anyone!
Ok I really appreciate the honesty. I had high hopes of it since it is a bit cheaper then a small press. Save my pennies a bit longer!
You and me both! What do you think you’ll end up getting?
