Works great I built one myself to speed up the filter time I have found that if you put a cup of de in the syrup that your main filter stays much cleaner I use a pre filter and can do a lot of syrup thru the main filter and just change the pre filter after each batch thru. Good looking syrup! I been sugaring for over 10 years here in the green mountains. Best of luck to you.
Thanks Joseph. I have read and heard about adding the DE to make it filter better. I think I will try it. Do you add it right into the syrup before filtering or do you put it on the filter and pour the syrup over it? Our syrup came out excellent this year and the taste is amazing. This is our 6th season so we are learning along the way. Thanks again, and have a great day.
Now that was cool!! I loved how excited you were when you first turned it on and it pulled the syrup down so fast!! Pretty amazing how caked that filter was. It must be strong to standup to the suction form the pump! You all are so cute at the end...what a team!!🪱🪱🪱
Thanks Andrew. We were pretty excited for sure. It works better than we hoped. And it is crazy how much nitre gets caught in the filter. We always like to have fun together. Joanie and I have got 34 years in now and try to always laugh. Take care.
I add it to it as soon as I draw off the evaporator I take it to syrup on the evaporator so you would add it to syrup once you get it there since you finish it off on the burner in a pot add a cup for every gallon can’t add to much it makes a huge difference I add as soon as it comes out of the evaporator and mix it in with whisk. It make filter clean up so much easier. Love the videos

Can you find a screw on that will make a smaller spout for your syrup drain that will stick into the bottle? It would allow you to fill bottles much faster. What a great idea you have here!!
I would modify the spout to fit inside the mouth of your bottles to eliminate spillage. Also, hard to tell but doesn’t look like you used any pre filters on top of the orlon filter media? Would help you get more liquid through and into your pot. You should also get those caps on sooner while the syrup is over 180* 😉
Thanks for all the great tips. I did change the spout for one that fits. I use a couple of pre-filters. And thanks for the advice on the caps. Appreciate it. Have a great day

I may have to rethink which one to use. I'm just hobby and I'm boiling my 100 gallons tomorrow, but I'll be running it through my DIY RO first and then will filter and bottle on Saturday. One question.... I'm always paranoid about bottling temp and making sure it's around 185. I notice you fill all your bottles and let them sit on the counter without caps. Have you had any issues with long term storage like that? I was always taught to immediately cap while the syrup is still at temp, and lay the bottle on its side for a few seconds to heat the cap so it's sealed while still at temp. I use a 60 cup stainless steel coffee pot that has an adjustable temp dial, so I can keep the temp right on the money and fill right from the spigot.
Glad you like the vacuum filter. It’s a game changer. As far as the caps, my bottles are really hot from sterilizing them, add in hot syrup and the bottle stays really hot for a bit. The caps are also hot from sterilizing them as well. I put the caps on within ten minutes and I’ve never had any issues with the seal. Have fun. Hope this helps. Welcome to Creekside as well.
