I wish that Kandao had stuck with the 8k and released a new version of the Camera. Early on, the camera had problems. So, I put mine away for years. My first couple tries I was frustrated with washed out photos, then later I saw i had auto with EV 0.7 in the settings, doh, so I set auto to EV 0 and auto is betterish now. I dusted off and put a battery in my old Gossen Luna-Pro light meter I used with a Cannon F1, yep that dates me, and it seemed to almost match if I used f number 2, which I think is the f number for Qcam. As expected ISO 100 and ISO 200 really improved photographs if shutter speed adjusted appropriately. But I really did not need light meter, because you can look at the preview if in manual and get a feeling for exposures.

The 360 camera that I use most is the Insta 360 One X2. It is my favorite 360 camera. This one is another companies take on things. it has a lot of great potential but the software and the user interface isn't as easy to use as the insta 360 cameras. It shoots higher resolution and has some great features like the large screen. Most of the social videos and videos of my family that I post I make on 360 cameras. They are a blast. Thanks for the vid. I have the QooCam 8K (along with many other 360 cams) and I regularly search TH-cam for QooCam 8K videos and after all these months YT has finally put your vid in my search results! It is very sad to note that TH-cam did NOT produce it for so long; there are not that many QooCam vids out there and it is nice to see a "new" one. Overall I like the QooCam 8K even though it may not have the sharpest video. It does offer settings that I do not have in any other 360. I do like the 4k 120p and ISO 100, shutter 1600 for my driving videos. Your QooCam videos look very sharp, do you recall your settings? Do you still use the QooCam 8k much? If so, what are your preferred settings? Indeed! I have been really enjoying the One RS One Inch model. So cool. I think we are due for a refresh on the one RS and the One RS one inch. It’ll be interesting to see what they make.
One question I have that I can't find the answer to yet: Do you have to use the Kandao App with the images off the camera, or can I pull them out straight into Lightroom?
Is this camera still worth it in 2023? I can't seem to find other newer options with 8k capabilities. My main use would be 360 videos to be displayed on vr headsets. I tried an old Nikon 4k 360 cam, and the resolution when watched on a vr headset was awful. Looked like 480. Does anyone have a recommendation on a budget of 500 dollars?
There is a lot of things that this camera gets right but a lot that it doesn’t as well. When it comes to ease of use and quality I would consider Insta360 X3 if you want to stay on budget and the One RS One Inch if you’d like to spend a little more but want the 6K. I think that the one RS one Inch is the best quality option right now but the nice big screen on the X3 makes it a compelling choice as well.

Hi b I Bobby, i will buy one asap. Thanks for the koocam 8k. I like your well spoken vocab. Bobby which 8k 360 camera would you recommend over the koocam?
Thank you for watching and for your kind words. My favorite all around 360 cam right now is the Insta 360 One R. It is hard to say which one I would recommend over the QooCam 8k because it depends on which aspect. What do you want out of a camera?
0:42 - Is that 3.5mm jack a plug-in power jack? I think so based on what you said but I wanna use a mic that requires plug-in power (defined as 2-12 volts power given to whatever is plugged in) please answer fast if you see this!
Connor Carbon I am not sure and haven’t been able to find anything conclusive. I assume so as well. It has worked with all the mics I have thrown at it. Is there a quick way to test that you know of. I’m happy to test it.
@@BobbyInBlue You'd have to check in user manuals for any mics you have and CTRL+F to search "plug-in power" to see if any of them require plug-in power. If so, does it sound significantly quieter than other mics which don't require that? that would suggest the 8K jack doesn't provide plug-in power. Don't sweat it too hard though. I think I will have to go with the Insta360 One R because the fan noise will probably ruin my ambisonic nature recordings I was hoping to record in tandem with the footage from whatever 360 cam I choose
Honestly it depends on what you want to do with it but my favorite all around one is this one, the Insta360 One X2. The GoPro Max is great for video but I wish the app and editing were a little better. Rumor has it a new GP 360 is coming soon. So maybe that’ll be cool. Then the Ricoh Z1 is one of the best for 360 photo but it is pricey and also doesn’t have as strong of video specs. All and all. Insta360 is your best option, I think.
@@BobbyInBlue jajaja...you are right!! I Think 600 usd are still un budget. I'll do the question again: What do you think is the best camera for photo with 600 usd price limit? thank you very much for sharing your time and knowledge!!
You are correct depending on what you are looking at for those specs and options $600 is a great value! If I had to choose the best photo option under $600 it would be between the One-X2 from insta 360, the Theta V or the QooCam. In my opinion workflow and ease of use weigh I to this decision just as much as quality. And between these 3 cameras we have a varsity of strengths from actual specs to better work flows. Some require more technical ability and others are easier to just pull the photos quickly with your phone. I’d probably choose the One-X2 personally just because I favor easier workflow, for me a great image is important but if it takes too much time or work to get the image off of the camera then that’s a downside for me too. All of these cams have pros and cons. I love seeing all the innovation from each of these companies because It helps drive the market. Thanks for your comment
The app is a little clunky and takes some getting used to but it works. I’d say it is a little more clunky in some ways then the Samsung 360. In other ways it is better. If you’re looking for the best app experience and ease of use I’d go with the Insta-360 One R
It can live stream in 360 but it still has some kinks to work out. On the audio front, it doesn't seem to or if it does it wasn't working for me. I have heard that Kandao's Obsidian R has ambisonic audio.
@@BobbyInBlue Yeah, I've tried it and can say definitively that the ambisonic audio capture is NOT the Obsidian R's strong point. Any idea if the Ricoh Theta V can do spatial audio livestreaming to FB or YT either with or without the optional TA-1 mic? Been scouring the forums and no one cam seem to answer this for me
@@JohnHenryDale Good to know! That is no fun! I have been playing with the Ricoh series and from all indications that I have I would say that it does not have any options for spatial audio. Just tired a little test and if it does... It is not good. Let me know if you find more about this, I'd love to know.
Bobby Gibson Well the Theta V definitely has the ability to record spatial audio with both the onboard mics and the optional mic : 360rumors.com/use-spatial-audio-ricoh-theta-v/ but my question is whether or not it could be live streamed to Facebook or TH-cam?
@@JohnHenryDale the Zoom H3-VR is only $250 right now if you want to add cheap Ambisonic audio to your 360 recording rig. It comes with a 2-sided mount so you can have the mic hang upside down from your camera in one neat package. That's what I'm gonna do. It's not as good as the Rode Soundfield mic or the Ambeo VR mic but requires no additional gear and will sound much better than any consumer 360 camera will have in terms of on-board ambisonic audio
I am completely new to this and I am planning to start a vlogg channel. So which is best, this or the GoPro Max, or even to wait for the Hero 9 in October? Please help! Thanks!
Good for you! Glad to hear that you are starting a VLOG Channel! Best is relative in this circumstance. The Qoocam is great for a lot of reasons but it also takes more time and computer resources to process the footage. The GoPro Max is one of the best 360 cameras for video out there hands down and it has a better app for getting clips off of the camera faster. There are a lot of things to consider on this but if this is your first 360 camera I would recommend starting with the GoPro Maxx, Insta 360 One X or the Insta360 One R. They have better software and apps that make the process of getting your video off of the camera easier. In fact the Insta360 One R has one of the best apps out there. It can pull the clips for you very quickly and you can even make full edits right in the app. Best of luck with your Vlog channel! Good for you for starting your channel! Let me know what you decide to get and id love to see your videos when you are up and running! Always love seeing other creators work! Check out one of my favorite channels on 360 "Best 360". Thanks for watching!
I use Final cut and the 360 video editing options that they have. I also have played with premier and the go pro reframe plug in. When I say software I mean the software on the camera as well as the app for phones and computers. You will still need to pull the videos off of the camera with the QooCam app and then you can edit and reframe in your video editor. Things are changing and there is a new plug in for Insta360 that lets you skip ahead and go straight to premier and so i hope that is the new trend. To edit the 360 videos get the GoPro reframe plug in for Premier and throw that effect on your clips. It will allow you to reframe your footage and key frame different points so you can move around your footage in the edit. Happy editing! If you post your shots tag me, I want to see. Thanks for watching
Pixinity I get that. Each camera seems to have there own set of problems but I get that! The Z1 is an awesome Cam! It doesn’t have as high resolution on videos though. Amazing for photos but if you’re wanting to do video I’d get the One-R or even the One-X. Best of luck!
Can’t use what? I have had some problems. Mostly software trouble. I have had the camera over heat a few times on longer takes. I have had some other strange one of problems. It isn’t a perfect camera but it is getting better.
I am on the verge of returning my QooCam 8k. The software is that BAD!! (Windows 10 user). So many bugs. I have to design an HDR workflow AROUND the software's quirks just to get anything done. 1) QooCam Studio crashes if you feed it a jpg made from an HDR stack. 2) Why can't QooCam Studio take DNG and output DNG? I do hope they have fixes on the way soon.
dcairns61 I am sorry to hear that. It does take some processing and work to use the files in some cases. I get what you mean. It’s always tough to have a product that feels half baked. The workflow needs improving for sure. They have already made some strong improvements.
My issues with mine...soft focus, poor stitching in all modes, very poor battery life, bad studio software. The battery literally drops from 100% to under 90% while taking one HDR photo (actually 24 bracketed photos). So if you plan to do a virtual tour, you better bring a charger!
I think all of the things that you said are ver valid and I have heard many people wiht your same comments. This is not a perfect camera by any means but it is getting better with each software update and also pushing the industry.
@@BobbyInBlue I did send mine in for service and the soft focus issue was corrected. Kandao was surprising easy to deal with for the repair. I sent sample images to China via Dropbox and they agreed that both lenses didn't meet their specs. I mailed it to a tech and got it back in about a week with the lens corrections made. Learning from you . Thanks Bobby
Does this camera stitch the footage inside? Or do you have to stitch it by yourself in a software program?
You can use the phone app tor computer software to export the footage.
Thanks for watching.
I don’t have this camera or the 360. Which would you suggest I purchase?
Honestly it depends on what you want to do with it but my favorite all around one is this one, the Insta360 One X2.
The GoPro Max is great for video but I wish the app and editing were a little better. Rumor has it a new GP 360 is coming soon. So maybe that’ll be cool.
Then the Ricoh Z1 is one of the best for 360 photo but it is pricey and also doesn’t have as strong of video specs.
All and all. Insta360 is your best option, I think.
@@BobbyInBlue thanks Bobby.
Hi Bobby! Do you think this is the best option un budget to do photo? thank you!
Thanks for watching! I think the best budget option for photos is Ricoh Theta V or Theta SC2.
@@BobbyInBlue I'm very surprised with your answer.... what about the super HDR option Qoocam offers?
@@obralinda4553 you asked for the best budget option. Super HDR is wonderful on the QooCam.
I’m totally into simplicity. Is the app easy to use, like the Samsung 360?
The app is a little clunky and takes some getting used to but it works. I’d say it is a little more clunky in some ways then the Samsung 360. In other ways it is better. If you’re looking for the best app experience and ease of use I’d go with the Insta-360 One R
First Question I always ask with these cams: can it livestream in 360 with ambisonic audio?
Bobby Gibson Well the Theta V definitely has the ability to record spatial audio with both the onboard mics and the optional mic :
360rumors.com/use-spatial-audio-ricoh-theta-v/
but my question is whether or not it could be live streamed to Facebook or TH-cam?
Here are 2 videos I would recommend so you can see what I am talking about.

Thanks for watching!
I updated my comment.
@@BobbyInBlue wow! thanks bro! What a great response :-P okay I understand, I will make sure to let you know ;-) thanks again for your help!
Awesome! I hope that helps you make a decision. Best of luck! Looking forward to it!
Nice honest review, thanks 😀
Thanks for watching! Love your content!
Hey Bobby, what software do you use for video and still? Seems that Qoocam doesn't have good software. I do have Premiere, how do I edit 360 videos?

@@BobbyInBlue Thanks bro. I'm not really happy with the Qoocam, I'm thinking returning it and get the Z1 Theta.
Have you had problems like some people can’t use it?
Can’t use what? I have had some problems. Mostly software trouble. I have had the camera over heat a few times on longer takes. I have had some other strange one of problems. It isn’t a perfect camera but it is getting better.
wish they would have supported the camera more and made some improvements with this camera.
Me too! Thanks for watching.
Great Video man!
Thanks man! Feels good to get back to it! How are you man? How is TH-cam going for you?
I think it is a great camera for the money, but I wish the battery life was longer.
@@oldmanhare that is really interesting to know! Thank you for sharing. I haven’t had much trouble with mine yet but good to know that they were easy to deal with! I hear you on the battery thing! I always need more battery.
Glad you got your cam fixed
Worst money that I’ve ever spent on a camera! This thing is terrible. The app is always quitting, as soon as you take 10 steps the camera disconnects, I have an Insta 360 but I also use it never does that it kicks this camera in the butt for more than half the money I paid $1800 for this camera I could’ve gotten 3 Insta 360s that have amazing performance, do not buy this camera. I’ll save you the headache, I can’t even return it because I’ve had it for too long already, what a horrible experience using this camera!
