@Kula Cnt that goes both ways mate so what's your claim.

    • @tanacz5505
      @tanacz5505 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

@Kula Cnt A growing number of Australians are choosing to call New Zealand home.
Until recently, Australia has been the destination of choice, attracting more people from New Zealand than the other way around.
But this trend has shifted in recent years, with the number of people moving from Australia to New Zealand exceeding those who leave “the land of the long white cloud” to migrate here.
More than 25 000 people moved to New Zealand from Australia in 2015, compared to the 24 504 New Zealanders moving Down Under.
Why are so many Aussies crossing the Tasman to set up their lives in New Zealand?
It’s relatively easy to move to New Zealand, since Australian citizens and permanent residents don’t need a visa to live and work there. New Zealand is often referred to as our Tasman cousin, and for good reason. Our two nations share many similarities, including a common language, so Australians are likely to feel at home in Aotearoa (Maori word).
Many people call New Zealand the most beautiful country in the world, and who can blame them? New Zealand is synonymous with an outdoorsy way of life that’s underpinned by a love of sport and adventure. Scenic highlights include sandy beaches, towering volcanoes, rugged mountains, and striking glaciers.
There’s also the attraction of a more laid back lifestyle, compared to the hustle and bustle of Australian cities. The cost of living is also likely to be slightly cheaper.
Highlights for Australians living, studying and working in New Zealand:
      Education:
Australian citizens and permanent residents can be classified as domestic students in New Zealand. This means you pay local fees for education, which includes tertiary. Most primary and secondary schools are free too.
You need to live in New Zealand for at least three years before applying for a student loan or Student Allowance.
      Home ownership:
Australians living in New Zealand don’t have to worry about restrictions when renting or purchasing property - they face the same conditions as New Zealanders.
      Superannuation:
Australians living in New Zealand are eligible for the popular employer and government-subsidised scheme called KiwiSaver, which helps employed people save for retirement.
Some providers allow you to transfer savings from your Australian retirement scheme.
      Healthcare:
Australians living in New Zealand can access the full range of publicly funded health care, as long as they plan to live in New Zealand for at least two years on an ongoing basis.
Australians who don’t intend to stay for two years can access immediate hospital and maternity services, as well as pharmaceuticals.
Thinking about moving to New Zealand, but don’t know where to begin?

My dad was in the NZSAS. He never talked about his time in the SAS except on rare occasions. Sometimes i'd stay up gaming till past midnight and my dad would be dozing in front of the tv. Usually it was those times he would open up.
One thing he said to me really stood out. I remember he was watching some movie and i had just finished raiding in WoW. It was almost 2pm and my dad just randomly asked me "Do you know what friendly fire is son" I was like "Yea its when you accidentally shoot your ally"
My dad turned and said "That's why in the SAS they usually send you in alone.. that way, you know its ok to kill anyone thats not you" then he chuckled and went back to watching his movie. Its kinda dark humour because another way that could be interpreted is "Its ok to kill people as long as they are on the other side" I could tell by his eyes though that he was really thinking was "its never ok to kill anyone, that's just what they tell us to make it feel ok"
I never got the impression that my dad was involved in much actual fighting. A lot of what he did tell me leads me to believe he mostly did reconnaissance or sabotage. Like he pointed out once that his job was to sabotage the bathrooms etc at an enemy position. He laughed and said "your in big trouble if you have 5,000 troops and none of them can take a shit or have a hot shower". Something as simple as that can cause a major logistical problem that takes time and resources to fix, and no doubt creates a distraction.

The NZSAS came to Whakatane to conduct the search for the missing victims of the White Island/Whakaari eruption tragedy. They searched the island post eruption through the searing heat in special heat resistant suits. The mental toughness to do the job they did that day left our community in awe and extremely grateful for the duty and service they perform. I made a couple of them when they came into my work and quietly thanked them.

A story from my dad's SAS selection. After the physical and mental screening came the week in the bush. At the end of the week in the bush, those that made it were brought back to base. They had hot showers and taken into the gym. Inside the gym were tables and tables of all the food you could imagine that you would want to eat. Roast chicken, ice cream, cakes, potatoes, fresh fruits, veges, cold water, soda, alcohol etc etc. Most of the boys were really hungry and dug in, really went to town. My dad just had an apple nd some water because he knew it was a trick.
Sure enough about 20 min into the feast they were forced to run laps in the yard and everyone who had gorged on the food went through hell, spewing up and getting cramps. My dad describes how some of these men who were tough as nails just doubled over and started crying. Meanwhile my dad and one of his mates are jogging along, in a lot of pain but not cramping and vomiting like the rest.

I remember from my selection course in the late 60s that we experienced a similar situation described above. After being run ragged for a week and without food for three days, we were led into a chow hall with a veritable feast laid out. We however didn't get to enjoy any hot showers beforehand. Most of the guys tore into the food like a pack of wolves , scoffing down as much as they could as fast as possible knowing that the food was likely to be removed without notice. I immediately smelled a rat and realizing that carbohydrates would be my best friend in the situation, I limited my intake to gravy and liberally salted mashed potatoes and had managed quite a decent belly full by the time the food was suddenly removed and we were ordered outside to take off on an extended run in full kit and packs etc. Many of the guys quickly cramped up and some started puking and were unable to carry on. My food choice proved to be a smart one and at the end of selection I was one of four selected to join the regiment from the seven who completed the course out of the 107 who'd started 10 days earlier.

You can do it too, it's not about physical but mental. Every single human has the capacity to take control over their mental and physical state if they want to do so. I have done many hard things in life and you can do any of it if you make the mental decision to get it done by any means and it WILL get done one way or another. Every person has this capacity ready to be unlocked with a bit of kick in the butt. Either you do it on your own like I did or someone helps you do it like in military training.

I had the honour of instructing trainees through advanced climbing skills at a facility I worked at. Some were NZSAS trainees. They only signed in as an NZDF group of course. And usually signed individually with pseudonyms for thier own security. They had the stuff nailed in 30 minutes that we would normally spend 6 hours teaching ! They listen. They watch. They execute. Their own instructors were older guys. Very quietly spoken, eloquent, humble. But the eyes said it all. Some of them had obviously seen & done some very serious work. True professionals. Glad to say they're ours !

I had a mate who completed the 10 days twice before they said to him on the third time he completed the 10 day selection course that he was finally ready for the SAS and accepted him. What you don't see here is that you also have to do theoretical training after each day to the late hours of the night and attend psychological assessments as well.

As a New Zealand civilian, the SAS is regarded with the greatest esteem. We know if they are sent in, then what is about to be faced, will be dire to the extreme as well as critically important. There was one case raised over the last few years, which led to accusations against a SAS operation being for the sake of "revenge". I felt frustrated by the case, because the SAS was undertaking it's duties; it was we the public who wanted the revenge! I haven't seen this video for many years; it was hugely popular in NZ. And yes, Australian and Kiwi Forces = brotherhood. As stated earlier, we go way back!

My cousin joined the NZ police force and did a 10km trek as part of basic training. At the end of the trek a guy was giving them a debrief asking if anyone had noticed anything strange along the way. No one had, so he said ok stand up boys and the group had been ghosted by half a dozen SAS boys the whole time. They had been no more than 50m from them from start to finish and no one even had a clue.

Used to play prison yard footie against some kiwi vets, pre 9/11 they were staff, screws, one was SAS trooper, NZ Army boxing champ. Other army grunt. They ran the BMR (behaviour modification regime), call it stripped back & squared away time. Except for two hour a day yard, spent warming up with touch, then a "held up" version of league, these two would come at us over there lunch break in civvies, crack your door & offer you a run at them, they did this over 4 landings on different classifications, all factions, lasted about a month til the super happened by that yard,
Hell yeah I was in, plus we got to have a run with and against our brothers. Once 9/11 happened they both jagged that job in and went security in warzones

Don't know about now, but used to be finishing the 10 (actually 13) days did not mean selection. Finishing those meant eligible for selection. Volunteers were tri service and not all regular force.

Kiwis are generally good fighters and good workers. Pretty feisty mob.
And that's from an Aussie that's spent over 20 years in security.

For an infantryman everything weighs somethin. Two 1 qt canteens, a pair of socks, the cover on your head, food, ammo. It all weighs somethin.

I remember my feet as one complete blister covering my whole sole on both feet. Walking 30km every afternoon was norm, 200km route march a couple of times a year. For my sins I was carrying the radio, a heavy APRC77. Man we could grind through it, a great team lifting each other through the grind, watching your check points getting pushed out, safety vehical never getting closer... weekly stuff for an NZ grunt. Hats off to these boys on selection.

My grandfather was a marine during the Korean War, and my great grandfather was a submariner before that during WW2. Unfortunately I never got to meet either of them and they apparently weren't too inclined to tell stories according to my dad, but I still have the utmost respect and admiration for both of them. I suppose I just wanted to say that I respect you as well, Mr. Jameson Travels, if that is your REAL name, ha. I'm more than likely going to join the marines myself, I'm 19 and still got some life to figure out before I make that decision, but I could think of no more honorable career here in the U.S.
