"Selfish, I suppose. To not want to spend my entire life screaming on the inside." That was the line that made me hurt for Dorian the most. That line encompasses a feeling that is...so terrible, a pit of loneliness and pain, pasting on the smile for everyone else and dying, wilting, going dark inside.

When I finished the game, I became so depressed because the journey was over and the characters had no more quests and nothing left to say to me, that I wouldn't eat dinner that night and just laid my head down on the table staring off into the distance. I was so overwhelmed with this horrible feeling of despair and sorrow that I went to my game, found my last save before I did the final quest, reloaded it, and have refused to finish the game since. This game affected me in so many emotional ways, and the music brings such feeling without words, it's truly a memorable and extraordinary game. My fondest of memories, without a doubt, are of moments in this game. Maybe my life's just been boring and I've been secluded from any exciting moments, but I don't think that's it. Taylor Lichtle I agree with every word. All three of the DA games gave me this feeling. There are other games out there. But the DA games... They aren't games. They're an experience.
In gameplay, and impressiveness of the game-engine i can agree. In story and lore dragon age is, in my opinion, by far the superior. And that's exactly what Taylor is referencing.
Markov Sergeyovich Haven't played Witches 3, so I wouldn't know. But since everyone has a different opinion, I would appreciate it if you would respect mine and not stomp on all I wrote by saying another game "kills" it. Thank you.
I was a little skeptical about Inon Zur not returning for the third installment, but Morris absolutely kills it with this score. Minimalist when it needs to be, all out bombast when necessary.
Inon Zur did a really disappointing job with the music in Origins and DA2. Don't get me wrong, they are solid soundtracks, just not the transcendant quality that he usually puts out. Morris absolutely puts him to shame with Inquisition's soundtrack though. It's a Jeramy Soule or Howard Shore level soundtrack IMO. but personally, my favorite soundtrack is still Throne of Bhaal from Inon Zur. th-cam.com/video/4V6ayeiKkT4/w-d-xo.html
This song just fits so well with the parti t's under. It's not full of fear or, or anxiety. For those in that alternate path of time... the world is over. There is no end to be afriad of... Everything is already gone.
This song, more than anything, reminds me of the relationship between Dorian and his father. Sorrow, betrayal, sadness. It makes me cry if I think about it too hard.
This song made the area seem that much more sad, you just get the feeling of a world where all hope has been lost. It wrenched my heart hearing this play as I found Sera and Blackwall, my two companions, changed and broken.
What a wonderful and heart wrenching composition. I found myself drawn to listening to this in light of the horrendous attacks that have occurred all over the world in the last few days. Thedas is a superb and accurate reflection of our world; although we cannot physically see the Breach engulfing the sky we know in our heart of hearts that our world is engulfed by a breach of tremendous pain and suffering, inflicted by men whose hearts are poisoned with greed and hatred.
When hearing this song, I think of Dorian and the scene where he talks one to one with the Inquisitor. Makes me sad, but the song is so beautiful. So is the scene
***** It's at the beginnig in Haven she tells you about her death if you ask her. Don't know what she tells, my warden didn't kill her because she loved leliana :D The keep was necessary because they switched from eclipse to frostbite. Complete new engine
Cole says it. When Bull is around he ask what his last thoughts where. He only says "Horns pointing up" to Bull. When he is not around he says the complete quote.
Pizzifrizzo Spoilers duh If you abandon the chargers those are Krem's final thoughts. He dies thinking Bull wouldn't abandon them, but he does, for the Qun.
I remember hearing this first in E3's alpha version clip. 2:32 "The breach...it's..." "Everywhere..." "Don't look up! Don't look up! Don't...shit I looked"
The very first time I played this quest I was literally immediately concerned for my companions (I took Cassandra and Varric that time.) and I remember my concern only heightened the farther we went. And then actually finding them. I remember I heard Cassandra's voice before I saw her and I called out to her (despite the fact that she obviously couldn't hear me) And then the state of her and Varric and then Leliana....That quest was just...I don't even know if I know how to describe my feelings. The last thing I remember too is getting all teary eyed when they sacrifice themselves for you at the end of the level. And your inquisitor tries to get back in the fight and Dorian is all "if you move we die!" And you're clearly torn. A++ for this quest. Atmospherically and just in general.
FieryWingedAngel honestly I was so upset when I saw Varric when I took him in my first play through. I just had to stop and take a moment to remember all the times he talked about how horrible red Lyrium was and how he had to live with it poisoning him.
My first real playthrough i romanced Dorian. I loved his character. He made me feel for him as a human even though he doesn't exist. Amazing companion.
one of the most beautiful and haunting compositions ever. amazing! i think it perfectly captures alexius' grief over what he's done and over his son's predicament.
The only thing this level could have done to make it even better was if you started romancing one of your party members they could have touched upon that and the character seeing them die could also have some form of effect on the relationship later. But other than that this level was amazingly done
The mission is so early in the game though. And yes, I realise it's technically the "middle of the game" but the game doesn't really open up before Skyhold. Some romances don't even begin before Skyhold.
This theme I would consider the theme of Tevinter in general. Hauntingly dark, with a glimmer of heroism beneath. I can't wait to play as a Tevinter Mage and finally see Thedas though their eyes.

By far the best theme in the soundtrack and the best quest in the game. I always play as a mage in any RPG, but DA has something special and the mages always have the best writing. Seeing your companions with red lyrium, sacricing themselves for you just to give you time, and then the last moments of Leliana... always make me cry. I just love how the quest turned SO DARK and horrorifying with that future so gloomy and depressing.
When this theme started humming in the back of the mages missions I was hooked I needed to know what it was it's something about these instruments that hits a certain part of myself and makes me just drift into my own thoughts, masterfully crafted not many can achieve such things.
Leliana: I want the *world* back...! To convey such a world of darkness and hopelessness. If there was any lack of motivation to stop the madness and evil of the Breach from consuming the world, this theme and the mission it came with certainly provided it. For before you, you get the clear picture in all it’s horror of what should happen if you fail.
I can sense the tragedy that was felt both by Alexius for wanting to save his son and the consequences that came with his decision. The other is the urgency my team uses to fight their way through the castle to reach the Magister.
Possibly the best quest i've ever played! Hearing and seeing your followers being effected by the red lyrium. Fade rifts everywhere with demons freely roaming around. Hearing how they didn't stand a chance against corypheus but they hopelessly faught anyway, the music fits perfectly! Really gives you that "this is messed up" feeling.
All three of the games are so stunning and amazing. Inquisition is probably the best in graphics and music and what not, but I totally recommend playing the other two first, even if youre suffering to get to this one you'll still enjoy the first two and better appreciate the third! :)
Holy Andraste, I was not prepared for this game when I started it. My friend casually mentioned to try it out, I didn't think much at first and now I can't stop playing it.
if there was one series that would make an amazing movie, it's this one. I find myself engulfed in even the dialogue of dragon age. Throw in this amazing music and bam.
My first playthrough of the game, I sided with the Templars because I hadn't played Origins or DAII prior to Inquisition, so I was just playing through. When I chose to side with the Mages after playing through the lore and the story, I was so glad I did. This mission is so much better than the Templar path. I always do In Hushed Whispers now when I play because it's the best path, especially story-wise.
A mournful future, a world tearing itself apart, all for the wishes of a madman who wanted the throne of a god that may never have existed. The tragic love of a father pushed to do unspeakable things in desperation, just for the barest hope to see his son live, no matter the cost. Once-great halls poisoned by an eldritch corruption beyond the planes of comprehension itself, tainting and twisting all that it touches. An Inquisition that threw itself against the walls, in vain desperation to avenge or rescue its fledgling hero, until too few remained to fight. This is the future of the Elder One. This is the future you must prevent.
This theme definitely helped me embrace immersion. I felt the hopelessness of a fallen but not yet forgotten world that I needed to do something about it. The music is so surreal, so good! Portrays the dark future perfectly. One of my favorite themes. Very few themes have been able to have this much of an impact like this for me while playing a game. Well done Mr. Morris, well done! Love this!
This theme just creates an atmosphere that few other game themes have been able to recreate, a truly unique experience is to be had when listening to this theme
Been listening to the soundtrack over the past few hours and I can say that I much prefer it to DA2 and Origins. It creates an almost sense of what kind of world you're going into without even having played it.
This might be my favorite track from the game. The cello is so haunting from beginning to end, and there is so much emotion packed into one track. You can almost feel the sorrow and the anger Alexius felt
This track captures everything I felt during this quest: The sinking feeling of /this isn't right/, the dread that grows within you as you discover just how WRONG this is, and the melancholy of how even the "victors" of this scenario lost. And the swan song fight, how Alexius just lashes out in despair.
Real talk...If it wasn't for this theme...That made me feel bad for these damn Mages...Would of left them to mindless slaves to the Venatorri...Not lying..This theme hit me hard when I saw Varric broken like that....Not my Dwarf...Anything but the Dwarf.. :(
I've only chosen the mages through all my playthroughs, I finally gave in and sided with the Templars. After completing the Templar mission, I have to say, the mage one is simply superior for me. This is because of two major reasons... 1) This music just completes the mission entirely. It makes you want to keep pushing, and I really made me want to find out what happened in a doomed world. Especially seeing Lelianna in such a different way... just wow. 2) Dorian.
General consensus seems to be that Templar one is more interesting for plot, while Mage one is more innately superior as a quest. You're also guided relatively more towards the Mage path, while you have to more actively try to go for Templar.
Malcolm Swoboda Interesting - my take is very different to yours: I thought was that In Hushed Whispers was much better written than Champions of the Just - it had much better character development and a darker & more gritty story that fitted a lot better into the game. Meanwhile, Champions of the Just lacked any interesting characters (with the exception of Cole) and mainly just consisted of mindlessly slaying mobs of red templars. The whole envy demon mind battle was fairly interesting, but I'd take the genuine, dark, miserable alternative reality that we got in the mage quest over the mere delusion of a potential future induced by a trollish demon. On the other hand, I preferred the level design of the templar quest.
Dorian's friendship came completely out of left field, I didn't even realise my decisions had made him like me until after his quest kicked in and, honestly, I'm glad he stuck around. He's pretty cool.
Before I played Inquisition we actually kinda played the Campaign in our Pen and Paper RPG Group. One member of our group was randomly chosen to get the anchor and become the Inquisitor. However the way we played it we actually prevented Alexius to actually to touch the Inquisitor. We were able to overwhelm him, before he ever could cast the time magic. Thus I didn't saw this twist come in the actual game *at all*. Gave this so much more impact for me honestly x3
My first playthrough, I went with the Templars. I’ve never regretted a video game decision more. Playing this mission would’ve completely changed my first impression of the game from pretty good to absolutely amazing.
This is why a always sided with the mages because this song fits so well with the atmosphere a world lost to the grips of evil, the inquisition we tried so hard to create destroyed by the hands of corypheus.
At the beginning of this song, you can feel the hopelessness that your trapped companions have felt for that whole year without you. It just bores its way into you and reminds you why the Breach needs to be closed and Corypheus stopped.
Dorian became my character's best friend after this mission. To go through hell with him and come out the other side... my character could trust Dorian with anything at that point. Brothers for eternity.
My canonical Grey Warden character from Origins romanced Leliana. Man, this mission was not fun for my Inquisitor, but it was much more painful for me!
"i think you are very brave" To this day, i still watch the father and son scene, one hell of a good scene from this game, you really feel the pain of Dorian, the broken family, that's f art
Music in this quest is absolutely incredible. You can feel the weight of the events which took place after Inquisitor's disappearance and that The Elder One gained so much power to the point where this reality was no longer possible to save by The Inquisitor. Time travel back to the year 9:41 was the only way to stop The Elder One from bringing apocalypse to this world.

Dorian's gotta make an appearance at least, maybe put him at risk but not killed off unless we really want to.* Needless to say I don't want to. But that may be the setup, Dorian or Leliana Josephine and Cullen. What's the bet something like this will be pulled?
+tsstevensts i bet something like that Will be pulled i just Hope that my heart Wont break and i also Hope that the grey Wardens Finds a way to Idk like expand their life. And i gotta ask... Has IT Been confirmed that there Will be as Da4? I rely Hope so lol.

Yeah
Inon Zur did a really disappointing job with the music in Origins and DA2. Don't get me wrong, they are solid soundtracks, just not the transcendant quality that he usually puts out.
Morris absolutely puts him to shame with Inquisition's soundtrack though. It's a Jeramy Soule or Howard Shore level soundtrack IMO.
but personally, my favorite soundtrack is still Throne of Bhaal from Inon Zur.

"You are no son of mine. Get Out."
"He wish he hadn't meant it."
@Amberlynns Gigantic Fupa Yes. If I'm not mistaken, this is during Dorian's banter with Cole.
I can't think of this song without seeing my party members for the first time in that future and how utterly hopeless they were.
The music REALLY makes this level.
I mean if you can use music to convey 'YO WORLD'S ENDED' this one would seem quite apt.
It´s like a storm growing from the inside
I always think of Leliana when listening to this track. :(
She switched to the dark side ! It's now Darth Leliana
***** It's her behavior in general ! Compare Leliana with the Leliana in DA:O.
And i totally meant that as a good thing she's badass :)
***** Actually you can talk with her about her death in DA:O
***** You can talk in Inquisition about her death in DA:O
***** It's at the beginnig in Haven she tells you about her death if you ask her.
Don't know what she tells, my warden didn't kill her because she loved leliana :D
The keep was necessary because they switched from eclipse to frostbite. Complete new engine
"I want the world back" lelianna sounded so broken when she said it i legit cried....
Copper on the lips, Dalish lies dead-eyed beside me. He’ll come. He’ll call. He won’t leave us. Horns pointing up.
Does he actually say that? That's horrble :(
Cole says it. When Bull is around he ask what his last thoughts where. He only says "Horns pointing up" to Bull. When he is not around he says the complete quote.
What are you referring at?
Pizzifrizzo Spoilers duh
If you abandon the chargers those are Krem's final thoughts. He dies thinking Bull wouldn't abandon them, but he does, for the Qun.
Well, if I did mind about spoilers, I wouldn't have asked.
BTW, that's terrible, truly...
“Stop. You’re just talking to fill silence, nothing happened that you want to hear”
A true beast, that woman!
Just finished the mission yesterday, blown away really by music, content and way the level was designed.
Still here in Dec. 2024. Timeless classic.
Yeah. I miss Morris music so much in Veilguard...
Props to Trevor Morris for the beautiful soundtrack. This piece is haunting and beautiful and plays well with the sad plot...
I remember hearing this first in E3's alpha version clip.
2:32
"The breach...it's..."
"Everywhere..."
"Don't look up!
Dragon age inquisition in a single song
one of the most beautiful and haunting compositions ever. amazing! i think it perfectly captures alexius' grief over what he's done and over his son's predicament.
Music also plays when Dorians meeting with his father ends. It's so beautiful and heartbreaking. This might as well be "Dorian Theme".
This has such a beautifully eerie and hopeless atmosphere to it. Captures the essence of the quest perfectly.
The only thing this level could have done to make it even better was if you started romancing one of your party members they could have touched upon that and the character seeing them die could also have some form of effect on the relationship later. But other than that this level was amazingly done
+Gmansniper That's a fantastic idea! Oh well, missed opportunity.
This is great idea! But since this mission is early you can't establish a romance with anyone yet
The mission is so early in the game though. And yes, I realise it's technically the "middle of the game" but the game doesn't really open up before Skyhold. Some romances don't even begin before Skyhold.
"You have as much time as I have arrows."
I fell in love with this soundtrack.
It's so meaningful and sad and it gave me chills when I first heard it.
Whenever the new dragon age comes out this should be the menu theme song becuase of how dai ended would be epic
Ryan D94 agreed
"You would think such understanding would prevent me from making such terrible mistakes. You would be wrong." - Solas
@@GenshinLover283 And the bastard still wanted to remove the Veil...
I've never played Dragon Age: Inquisition, although I would love to. It looks absolutely amazing, like a blend of GoT and LoTR.
+LoneWolfMedia That is a good way to describe it, I dare say -- still, it has its own uniqueness to it as well. I hope you get to enjoy it soon!
GOT + LotR is actually Witcher.
GOT + LotR is actually Witcher.
GOT + LotR is actually Witcher.
All three of the games are so stunning and amazing. Inquisition is probably the best in graphics and music and what not, but I totally recommend playing the other two first, even if youre suffering to get to this one you'll still enjoy the first two and better appreciate the third! :)
This song it´s like a storm growing from the inside
And it even manages to make you feel somewhat bad for Alexius
"This is all pretend to you. Some future you hope will never exist. I suffered. The whole world suffered. It was real."
I don't know what it is about this song, but it's just so depressingly beautiful. I can't stop myself from listening to this single track.
Love this!
This song is incredible, I just want to listen to it for hours
This theme just creates an atmosphere that few other game themes have been able to recreate, a truly unique experience is to be had when listening to this theme
Been listening to the soundtrack over the past few hours and I can say that I much prefer it to DA2 and Origins. It creates an almost sense of what kind of world you're going into without even having played it.
This might be my favorite track from the game. The cello is so haunting from beginning to end, and there is so much emotion packed into one track. You can almost feel the sorrow and the anger Alexius felt
ANDRASTE BLESS ME, ANDRASTE BLESS ME.
god. This song hits so hard everytime i hear it it makes me want to cry
The vibes it drips with is immaculate
This track captures everything I felt during this quest: The sinking feeling of /this isn't right/, the dread that grows within you as you discover just how WRONG this is, and the melancholy of how even the "victors" of this scenario lost. And the swan song fight, how Alexius just lashes out in despair.
Listening to this while walking through the deserted Los Angeles streets due to covid19. “I want the world back.”
Still an underrated score and this track alone is god tier
This is just too amazing!
Tlevids Was that alternate reality an actual reality though? /solas /timemagicmaybemorecomplicatedthanwethink lol
Gruffydd ap Cynan I definitely agree. Lots of running back and forth, back and forth, back and forth in Champions.
I like how, about halfway through, it starts faintly implying the Elder One's theme. These events are all his influence.
A shame that Trevor Morris isn't returning to compose The Veilguard. He did Inquisition's soundtrack justice.
Goosebumps. Goosebumps everywhere, just thinking about that part of the game.
“Remember: in the absence of light, shadows thrive.”
Dorian's friendship came completely out of left field, I didn't even realise my decisions had made him like me until after his quest kicked in and, honestly, I'm glad he stuck around. He's pretty cool.
I feel so melancholic and nostalgic when listening to this... The mystery of great music...
There is so much pain in this song. It feels like when you've experienced so much hurt that you just go numb.
I've been listening to this on repeat ever since playing thru Redcliffe Castle
My first playthrough, I went with the Templars. I’ve never regretted a video game decision more. Playing this mission would’ve completely changed my first impression of the game from pretty good to absolutely amazing.
This is why a always sided with the mages because this song fits so well with the atmosphere a world lost to the grips of evil, the inquisition we tried so hard to create destroyed by the hands of corypheus.
A chilling vision of things to come...
Pure existential despair. I love it
this song right here (and dorian) is why I hardly ever choose the templars
At the beginning of this song, you can feel the hopelessness that your trapped companions have felt for that whole year without you. It just bores its way into you and reminds you why the Breach needs to be closed and Corypheus stopped.
Dorian became my character's best friend after this mission. To go through hell with him and come out the other side... my character could trust Dorian with anything at that point. Brothers for eternity.
I'll always have a biased towards Inon Zur's soundtracks, but I can't deny that this whole soundtrack is just amazing.
How I would love Dorian to be a playable main character in a future Dragon Age game. They could really go places with his background.
A spin off with Dorian would be nice. And since it seems the next Dragon Age game will be set in Tevinter...
My canonical Grey Warden character from Origins romanced Leliana.
Man, this mission was not fun for my Inquisitor, but it was much more painful for me!
"i think you are very brave"
To this day, i still watch the father and son scene, one hell of a good scene from this game, you really feel the pain of Dorian, the broken family, that's f art
I love this theme the most it represent evil , darkness , sacrifice , betrayal and defeat
it's amazing how a single song can trigger so many emotions
Dorian's romance is so dark, beautiful and emotional... It's terrible that David Gaider has left Bioware, Dorian is his best creature in DA.
I got shivers hearing this the first time in the game. I still do ever now.
Definitely the best most captivating mission in the main game. Havent finished it yet but i doubt it'll change. The music is the icing on the cake.
I love this soundtrack! It's sad, dark, but beautiful at the same time
Beautiful and make me cry 😍😭😭
Dorian, my love❤️
+XxGamster_SofiaxX ### Y'know it's a pity he's gay. I'm all for his homosexual rights and always, always help him in his personal quests but after this my Evelyn Trevalyn would hit that like a traberchet shot.
+tsstevensts i fucking Love dorian and i Love his tervinter backround to. I srsly replayed the whole game as a dalish elf Male just so i could romance him. And i also played the dlc tresspasser ( sry for my bad spelling) but the ending on that dlc Left a scar in my heart and i just Hope that dorian survives the whole qunari attack on tervinter Cause IF he dies or something like that then i am Done With the game.
XxGamster_SofiaxX ###
Don't think we need to worry too much. Discussed it and here's how I see it.
"After this I need to leave. Tevinter is so far away." *Yeah, okay, good luck, knowing what you did in Redcliffe you will be missed.*
"We say goodbye to our dear friend Dorian." *Varric I know you're pulling the piss, but yeah he was worth his keep.*
Inquisitor seeks to find people Solas does not know and stabs the map. *We're going to Tevinter. Dorian's gotta make an appearance at least, maybe put him at risk but not killed off unless we really want to.*
Needless to say I don't want to.
XxGamster_SofiaxX ###
Thus far it had not been officially confirmed but despite the attempts to finish each character's arc the story's far from done, Trespasser baits a fourth game so much that EA would have to close down Bioware for Tevinter Invasion to not be made...maybe after Andromeda later this year.
Coming here from Veilguard to say i wish we had bangers like this on that score.
Such a beautiful sound ... Ive played this game to death we need the next one ASAP
Even if you are pro templar. Do this quest. I believe its the one the devs intended you to play. As it gives you a sense of urgency. If you fail to close the breach, the world you see is the world you get. I love this quest its a masterpiece
I empathize with most sentiments shared here; First playthrough, decided to go Nightmare -while not particularly great at video games, this quest kept me up laaaate -a real adventure
They don't play music near enough while playing the game. This is beautiful.
Also I just realized. Pretty sure a small snippet of this plays During Dorian's personal quest.
i dunno why but the mage side mission gave me the chills especially whit that soundtrack mixed whit fear and sadness knowing the future of what would happen it was awesome
10 years ago....
