- Do you want to learn how to save hundreds of dollars on framing costs? Let artist Bob Burridge show you how he uses gel medium and a blank canvas to give his finished pieces a contemporary look, while also avoiding the high cost of frames! This is an informative and easy project for all artists!
This is SO helpful. I've recently switched over from stretched canvases to canvas sheets without thinking about how I'm going to frame and display them... I've painted 3 paintings before I even thought about it so now I'm frantically searching the Internet for a solution. Thankfully I've doing your video. Will definitely be trying this! Thank you!!
You've a warm and friendly personality.. and I've enjoyed your video! Thank you for sharing!
Tried your technique with a deep wood panel and acrylic work on paper. It worked! Very nice! Thanks!
Love this. I used to spend a lot for adwork and such to be "box mounted" to display at our agency. This is so much easier.
I really love this technique and I love your kindness. Thanks for sharing.
Your artwork is stunning. I love your personality; very warm and interesting. Great video.
love your paintings! I'm an art student and found this video while trying to figure out how to stick a collage onto an oil painting... will definitely be checking out your other videos
Thank you. Effective, easy and economical. What else can we ask for?....!!!!
Sure. 3Es
Exactly the information I needed. Thanks, Bob!

You just solved a problem for me. Thank you!

Love your art
just what i needed to see - plus really like the painting.
Great tip... and nice paintings too!
Exactly what I've been looking for! Thanks :)
Thanks for the nice demo, Bob. to Armadilo123: the music is a jazz version of Badinerie from the Suite in B minor by Johann Sebastian Bach. :-)
Fantastic
thanks for the tip Bob! I've got a box of thin canvases, maybe I'll try this.
Great idea I have been looking for my paintings
Very nice! Thanks for sharing!
thanks so much Bill. I'll be getting this version
Thanks!, sage advice.
Most often I've already painted on the canvas... But this might work for those few paper pieces I have.
Fun video cool idea.

Thank you, could you do this with watercolor paintings on cotton paper? And how should one protect the watercolor painting since it won’t be behind glass?
Great idea. Love it! I have been trying to figure out how to frame my watercolors.
Like your ideas, you cute.
Nice channel. I subscribed
Bob, canvas stretchers raise the canvas off the bars at the outer edges. I agree with the under filler to resist the weight of the pressing.what concerns do you have about the area above the stretchers where the canvas is still springy? There isnt a return force against the weight. Seems that the outer edges are the more critical for adhesion. I'm considering either turning the stretcher over or making them out of 1 x 3 pine that is flat on both sides. Then we have support under that outer edge. Thx Bob.
nice paintings! I need to remount an acrylic painting on canvas because I did it wrong the first time. i'm hoping this time I can remount it on gallery board. I hope this technique will work. Its 24 by 30 I think. Then I want to glaze it with gloss medium
Thank you so much for explaining this so simply...still I've a query... If on a mdf board which is mounted with canvas ( 6×2 ft), I want to paste/fix some wooden circles/ semicircles to complete a art piece. How can I paste it. With which medium. Could you please help me in this... would be happy to see you reply.
I wonder if you have to pre-size your painting canvas or paper to fit inside the canvas you mount to. I have tried this with collage on bond paper and the paper gets so wrinkled and bubbled that it's nearly impossible to get flat, even with an iron. I guess I'll have to try the board and weights to see if that helps. Collage artist Jonathan Talbot also treats the surface of the painting with gel medium before gluing the painting down. I don't think Bob is commenting on these posts, but it would be nice.
Wonderful ! Thank you . What paper did you use for your painting ?? Is it canvas paper ?
Thanks for reaching out! His preferred substrate seems to be 140lb or 300lb watercolor paper! You can check out our stock here: www.jerrysartarama.com/search/go?w=watercolor%20paper
which varnish and gel medium do you use? Heavy gel matte?
Awsome! Thank's!
Brilliant! Sorry I'm in the UK and don't know what gel medium is? Is it like PVA glue? Thanks
Seeking advice: I have a canvas on half inch deep stretchers but need it to be on a 1.5 inch depth box canvas. I have the plain canvas and correct 1.5 stretcher frame to re-stretch around. Need advice or instructions about gluing the existing painting onto another (correct size) canvas. Thanks Is Gel Medium strong and permanent enough to keep the edges completely adhered?
Thank You!!!
Because not everything you like and buy is painted on canvas. Or it may be a print on paper. Print on paper is much cheaper than print on canvas. And it does save a lot of money if you glue it to a canvas yourself.
thanks pal ! :)
Is this watercolor paper you are gluing to the canvas? Thanks.
most likely i would assume
Genious!
Can you do this with an art print on fine art paper that is bought?
Genius
Can I use this process for gluing canvas board to a stretched canvas?
Ever get this question answered?
May I make a suggestion? Show the process. Otherwise, it's still a mystery to us. SHOW how you support or buffer the canvas underneath to accept the weight of the paper and the glue process. Show the finished product. For pete's sake, this is an instructional video, not a gallop through an art lesson. Thank you.
Exactly what I was thinkinnnnng. I came here to watch the process on this "free" art tutorial as he pointed out.
Can I just used canvas frame only?
is your work on a thick watercolor paper? Or other paper with acrylic? Thank you.
Can you do this with a watercolor painting?
What exactly is the name of the gel you used?
Hi Can I do also for my pastel on paper art work ?
What is the technical name for mounting paper to canvas?
Thanx
Marouflage.
what glue sorry ? I live in UK
Can you use 140 lb watercolor paper with this method?
Yes, you can use 140 lb paper but it doesn't lay as flat after gessoing as the 300 lb paper does, so it's more difficult to work with...
what's that tune at the beginning of this video, it's driving me nuts. I can't place it help! :)
how is this process called please ? thank you in advance.
Cheap makes cheap
What gel medium was used for this project?
hi it is most likely Golden mat gel medium- depending on the weight of the artwork- you can also use a 'mat' in the liquid form by Liquitex-Always good to experiment with something that is like what you want, in your final project
most galleries want at least a 1 1/2 inch deep canvas or it must be framed
Susan Flaherty Yeah, why is that? Are the 1 and a half inch canvases more durable?
likeable guy
Why not paint canvas at the first place?
First step, wash your hands!
....maybe he thinks it makes him "artsy"........
Lol...that’s hilarious!
If you're not a painter, you'll never understand why.
Just look at his work not his hands he is not cooking 😀😀
Wouldn't that be more money because you have to buy the glue, canvas and the plastic stuff
leafoww Well, not only expense but work! I guess it might make sense to just paint directly on to the canvas, and avoid this whole other work-intensive gluing operation.
@@ruthchristianson4595 I find that painting on a canvas sheet allows for experimentation without fear of messing up. It can result on better artwork. And it is flexible if you decide to change the size duirng the painting process.
Not what I wanted.
Sorry to hear that!
