Hoorah, Hoorah Hoorah. Ghost ball technique has never worked, but spent countless hours trying to make it so, wasting so much time going up blind alleys. At last a new, refreshing look at potting angles. This is heaven - thank you.
Nice demonstration. Looking forward to the next video. I never had any luck with the ghost ball myself. These days I'm just paying attention and memorizing how both balls look when the object ball goes in. Eg. for very fine cuts, the white is looking like it is much too thin, but as the angle increases it looks like I'm aiming increasingly thicker but still wrong, it only looks right to me at one point - about 20 degrees or so, and then it looks too thick for angles approaching straight shots. I'm often thinking, this looks wrong, but understand that it is right for that particular shot. I don't understand why 20 deg looks right, it should be like 45 deg or something, but to me at about 20 deg, what I see is what I get.

As an American pool player, it's fascinating how straight snooker players shoot while their general player base knows less about cueball/object ball behavior. I think most amateurs in pool could tell you why this is happening (cut induced throw), but the way we compensate for it in pool is likely not how you'd compensate for it in snooker. We deal with more variables in our shots than you guys do because of the conditions and equipment we play with. You guys definitely shoot straighter than us, but I think we learn more about the intricacies of cueball/object ball behavior earlier on in our journey.
That was really interesting. In training I often aligned the balls perfectly, but then failed to pot. (In matches as well ofc, hehe)

Nah, it’s easier to put the missed pots behind you in practice. You just reset the balls and next time you pot it. There no second chances in matches and the misses hurt. The balls will also be easier in practice when the colours are always on their spots.
cutting and missing that black has nothing to do with that 3 or 4 ball plant. no matter how hard you try to touch all those balls, but some of the balls will be higher and lower on table cloth. since its not a glass and a tiny hair /fabric will be the cause of the miss of that plant. it has nothing to do with drag or throw effect. if you dont agree . try this , instead of cutting from right side, put the cueball on the left and cut it, u will see what i mean.
another example: put a off plant , ball close to each other, and try to make those 2 plants into pocket. you will think you should hit the first plant ball thin or thick. but do the opposite and you will be amazed by the result
maybe you should explain why a stun causes the throw. my explanation. what causes missing pots , angle cuts playing with stun or slower pace is because of the table cloth fabric / little invisible hairs. as you stun the cueball the cueball slides through those little hairs and the pushes into them. and that is why you miss them thick ......... now try to play the same shot against the nap of the cloth. you will be surprised how you miss it.
what is the way to determine the angle of the bridge hand?
i think as soon as the bridge hand touches the cloth i think i turn abit too much the bridge hand to the right, which causes alignment issue,
i have tried to slide through my bridge hand towards the line of aim as hand touches the cloth , but i still turn my bridge hand to right and it causes huge alignment issue.
is there a best practice to find the best bridge angle? example: i heard the middle finger should be pointing towards object ball which i am not sure if its true , but i am looking for something to determine the correct bridge hand angle?

Well, I knew there is some cut induced throw, but man, thats a lot you show there. Nic Barrow build a robot to test this, and his experiment did not show that much; still one would miss. Top, screw and high speed reduces the throw. For those who play side : the running side is compensating the effect

Nice job setting this concept up. I'm struggling with a bar I play that has dirty balls. I'm missing there. Think I need to be cutting the ball a bit more or aiming for the far edge of the pocket.

does the leading leg has to have angle ? i am not talking about the foot but the entire leg , i know some players have straight and some has bent legs , but my question is about the leg angle , does it have to be vertical straight or or like ladder when leaning to a wall?

Ghost ball is working perfectly fine. Just need to be tactful for throw, which the slower stun cut will induce max throw. All pros played cut shot with helping side (a faction half tips away from center CB) to compensate throw. You only strike dead center for long straight pot. Hope this helps

A big eureka moment for me this year was realizing you change where around the pocket you aim based on speed and angle of shot. Heavy top spin you aim thick. Even sidespin aim thick to the nearest jaw. A slow full ball - aim to the far jaw of the pocket

Stun induces throw. The bigger the cut angle or the slower pace of a stun creates more significant throw.
Dirty ball contact also induce throw.
Pros usually using helping side to counter throw. Hope this helps

@meeemalef5849 dirty cloth too, which chalk residue scattered around the table and may caught on ball during roll which Ronnie's opponent always complaining

I'm thinking that if you don't remove the red ball, the black pots every time.
So maybe removing the red ball causes that white ball (in the 3-ball plant) to be squeezed offline thus hitting the black thick every time.

I like his videos and have been watching for a bit . Id like to see the next video , but at the end your explanation goes against some of the best pkayers saying the exact opposite ( hendry included ) .
Well, yes 😀 top players are just so good and talented they do not have to know these things. They just pot balls naturally.

With all due respect, in your previous videos before you went missing for a year you did tell us all to find the line by standing behind the cue ball with the belly button . Then walk in on that line.
If cut induced throw can cause this much distance off the line the mind sees with the eyes,then the line method also should not work right 😢

My eye automatically sees, that it will not pot. Also intellectually I know that cut induced throw is max on a half-ball stun shot. The truth about aiming is, that it is always a judgement from memory. You train your brain and it remembers. So consistency is key. And therefore you stand behind the line. To have a consistent starting anchor and help your eyes and brain. Most tools and methods for aiming are ok and work. Choose one you feel comfortable with. But they are only helpers.
When you understand cut induced throw (CIT) you can also understand how to correct for it. So Brando is not wrong with the "aiming system".
Say you have a 30 degree cut in slow speed, when the CIT is the greatest in slow speeds. Then with that knowledge, you can either aim to miss it to the closest jaw (so slight overcut) or apply spin to counter it, depending on what's best for the given situation. If you want to keep cue ball movement minimum, maybe you are down-table and want to hold the cue ball for the black. Then a stop/stun shot that you aim ½ ball thin is a better option. But say you are on the black and want to go baulk to clear the colors, then maybe a better option is to aim the pocket and apply side spin to counter the CIT.
Pool and Snooker are very creative sports, but you need to understand key physics, such as CIT and spin to be able to use all solutions available
@@2colossery while I agree with what you say about cut induced throw/squeeze effect , I do want to say that I recently managed to make a 60+ break or more precisely an 18 ball open table break without actually playing any intended spin or aiming for the far jaw. I did however line up each shot as per my mind's eye and my vision center ,the butt of my cue and my chest point was always on this line that I selected for each shot.
I think if one thinks of aiming too much,one would miss the shot.I am also not sure about applying spin to counter effect this as spin is not transferred between two smooth round balls with a tiny contact surface? From a physics inelastic collision point of view?
@@2colossery is outside English used to counteract throw? If so are you not actually deflecting the cue ball to another point on the object ball then,rather than spin transfer or 'gearing' between balls?
Michael Holt the pro player plays with a touch of outside English/helping side on each shot and he claims spin does not throw the object ball into the pocket . I also tried with an English billiards dotted white and yellow and I can see no spin transfer from white to yellow or vice versa.
Not convincing because he didn't make a try without moving the red. So we have to believe the expected line is correct without seeing anything.
If you do not move the red it will go even thicker. Try it yourself. Easy set up

I don’t see any point in this straight line construction, it feels stupid to even confused it would result in the same way. Each removed ball increases the distance and moves the aiming point in the target, it’s just a simple geometry and physics.
