- This old German documentary from 1999, focuses on the events surrounding the former American ocean liner SS America (by then called the American Star) after she ran aground off Fuerteventura in the Canary Islands in 1994.
It features remarkable footage of the ship, including the looting of the interior and the wreck being lit up for the first time in years.
For those who are true fans of the SS America, this is a must watch documentary to see!
I would like to thank my fellow America enthusiast and friend Wolfram Dallwitz for sharing this with me to upload this on TH-cam for you all to see, I really appreciate his love and passion for this extraordinary ocean liner.
Enjoy the film!
Thank you Mathew Cox for sharing this Documentary with the SS American Star, fans. 💋
You're welcome. It's a record of a ship that no longer exists. The ship must have been a surreal sight from the beach.
Shout out to Bright Sun Films.
SS America as she was originally christened, had several murals created by my father Pierre Bourdelle. Several of these were salvaged by the local people of the Canary Island.
Wie die Gier in den Menschen Idee sprießen läßt!
There she was, and there she went. Old father time, despite our best protestations, refuses to wait.
Schön eine alte Dokumentation, über ein so tolles Schiff zu sehen ^^ Danke fürs Hochlanden!
Nice to see an old documentary about such a great ship ^^ Thanks for Uploading!
Vielen Dank für das verfügbar machen. Endlich konnte ich den Beitrag auch mal sehen. Spannend war die ganze Geschichte der America schon beim Lesen, nun sogar mit original Bildern
Thank you very much for uploading that nice Documentary.
Got the Intel about it from Bright Sun Films Abandoned Vid about the Ship.
Such things really help me a lot with scalebuilding :)
Same here!! The Bright Sun film’s video is very good and brought me to this video. Even though I don’t understand German, it’s still a great documentary!!
Here because of Bright Films too! I would kill for some subtitles!
Fantastische Doku
I’m glad that they salvaged a lot of the stuff from the ship. The metal things like the brass, copper, portholes, switch panels etc. Saved it from the sea, to either be reused or scrapped, thus putting less strain on our natural resources.
I actually have wreckage from the ship itself. It’s unbelievable to think that they were once part of a beautiful and historic ship. To own them is a real honour. 🙂 🛳
@@matthewcox6615 absolutely!!
@@matthewcox6615 oh wow, that's so cool! Thanks for posting this awesome doc
Thanks to Manfred Preckel....
You were the artist in the film! What do you remember of the ship? I have a copy of your book and I absolutely love your artwork to do with the ship.
thanks for uploading
Wow! That one stateroom looked brand new. The film crew could have spent the night in there
That’s old footage when she was in service
Her death was sadder than other ocean liners. But other ocean liner could not have survived the tide better than her....
Even though I don’t understand anything what they’re saying i can see what’s going on
A picture paints a thousand words.
Imagine the balls of the camera crew
America: a fate not deserved
25:32 is that one of her lifeboats?
I believe it is.
It is
@@matthewcox6615 never knew any of them made it to fuerteventura with her. I thought that they were destroyed when the ship was sold for scrap in the late 80s
Should have made it a Floating hotel 😮😅
that was the point. she was being towed from Greece to Thailand. in the middle of winter. genius, I know
When was this? And where ? Sad they stripping her ! 😮. With all that effort. They should try and fix her to sail
Are you mad?
They say..Time waits for no man, well except maybe British Airways;)
