I am confused by the missing funnel, as she had two. Just today I have been working on improving/salvaging photos my parents took during our voyage on the S.S. United States in May of 1958. One image that I almost didn't look at because it looked to be just some traces of grey in white, now very clearly shows this ship docked on one side of the United States Lines pier in New York and the United States to her left on the other side of the pier. Two more piers to their left is the R.M.S. Queen Elizabeth.

All gone now in 2024

I don’t understand how something this massive just disappears over time . I don’t see it being able to rot away if this was filmed in 1999 either it all just doesn’t make sense maybe some organization of some sort took it and put a fake image on Google maps

Man that's a shame for this ship to go down like that yet have all the things that made her so grand and gorgeous. It's like watching all that slowly break apart and disappear into the waves

Its super sad, there were still ways to make money off of her and preserve her, why wasnt she towed to dry land and turned in to a museum piece? None of the classic ocean liners of that era remain its depressing

Some of the interior shots look so peaceful. Almost as if she was just asleep, waiting to take more happy passengers on a new adventure.

I'm insanely jealous of your genuine wreck fragments, I have to say! 12:35 could be a drain cover from a shower or something similar, which has become smooth after water has swirled it around.

It's interesting to see the interiors of the ship still exist, most of the time they're gutted and it's just exposed steel and empty spaces. All things come to pass.

If this was her state in 1979, imagine what fifteen years of neglect did before she ended up in Fuerteventura.

Of all the ship wrecks I have seen this one is creepy. Just something about it. If I believed in ghosts, I'm sure the decks would be full of them on a last night under a full moon.

GOOD NEWS 9/22/24 SS America sister ship As you know, the Conservancy is committed to communicating openly with our supporters as we work to chart the best possible course for the SS United States’ future given the constraints of our ongoing litigation with the ship's pier operator, Penn Warehousing. This week the Conservancy participated in a court-ordered confidential mediation following our motion to extend the deadline to move the ship due to our landlord's alleged misconduct. Progress toward addressing a range of issues was achieved, but additional time is needed to achieve an amicable resolution of this ongoing dispute. As such, Judge Anita Brody has issued an order temporarily suspending the deadline for the removal of the vessel from Philadelphia's Pier 82 pending continued negotiations between the parties. Our efforts in the days ahead will continue to center on conducting good faith negotiations with Penn Warehousing and advancing our educational and curatorial mission. We remain steadfast in our determination to ensure that the legacy of America’s Flagship endures and inspires for future generations.
