    Thanks for the video Jim.
    At 13:47 you were actually showing the donate page for klipper, not Voron. (Though supporting klipper is also a nice thing 😄)
    Sovol had actually made some donation to the VoronDesign team days before SV08 is launched.
    Personally I wouldn't call it a "clone", but I guess that's more of a subjective understanding of the word.
    The core mechanism is the same, but they took mass production into consideration and redesigned every part for injection molding and using custom extrusions.
    Anyways, have a nice time at RMRRF!

    Thank you for an honest first look. Lost all faith in Nero since he keeps slagging this machine that never ever claimed to be a 2.4, but he keeps pushing that. The 08 is exactly what I thought it would be, a super solid foundation that can be tweaked to be amazing! Keep up the great work.

    • @trugbilddrachen
      @trugbilddrachen 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I feel his video was fair and the follow up with the very short pin for a bearing stack was valid. While 2.4 inspired and built for mass production, people who do not know any better will say it’s a 2.4 just like the ender 5 people think it’s a corexy. They even mention the Voron inspired however there are many mods for the 2.4 that will not work on this due to the custom extrusions. The sv08 like the Troodon 2.0 have their place.m for those that don’t want to built a kit. Nero’s biggest grip was firmware and slicer material profiles.

    • @leetpg
      @leetpg 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      @trugbilddrachen I'm sure when it ships, they will include profiles or they will be created by the community. I always build my own profiles. It's not much work. If I built a voron I'm still building my own profiles. I think his review was a little too bias.

    • @trugbilddrachen
      @trugbilddrachen 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @@leetpg while I am the same, you can’t say that for the majority of those buying this. Given that they ship early May in the US the units provided for reviews should have had the profiles ready. What did they use when they tested in house? The z calibration even mentioned in this video was “coming soon” i also feel based on the live stream and the box, they are banking on the Voron name and similarity to a 2.4. Even this video mentions being a clone. I am all in for Sovol, how we we should relay on the community to fix the basics of the printers functionality. This is not the 199 ender 3 anymore.

    • @leetpg
      @leetpg 12 วันที่ผ่านมา

      @trugbilddrachen I think he said it best when he said it's half baked. I wouldn't say half baked though I'd say it's 90 to 95 percent there. To finalise profiles won't take much work. Maybe the review rigs they sent out they only expected simple pla prints. Again, they shouldn't do this when asking for a review. It's like designing a torch that has 3 brightness modes and sending it out for review and the other two modes aren't ready for use yet. Annoying, but software work like that can be ironed out relatively quickly.
      It's a tricky situation. I feel everything gets compared to a bambu when really this shouldn't be. I know it's a mass produced machine but it's root core is literally the epitome of a tinkerers dream. I had a big build to make my own voron but I've got 2 kids under 3 years old, work two jobs and struggle to find time to scratch my ass. I couldn't commit to a 40 plus hour build with the space I have at home. This will allow me to have the volume, core xy, a known platform and still tinker.
      His issue with the bearing too looks fixable. I also don't think it will take long for someone to cnc the plastic parts out of allow as a future upgrade.
      I always say, if you don't want to tweak, modify or tinker then buy a bambu.
      Did you order a sv08? I did and want wait to get it. I was going to order the enclosure but for the price I think I can build one for under $20.

    Wonder what the parts cooling fans are specifically. I bought a SV07+ a few months ago and later found out about its parts cooling deficiency. Designed a dual-5015 fan holder to ride on the extruder, learned how to tweak the profiles in Orca, and now it's working pretty well. Basically, to print PLA at ever faster speeds you need ever better cooling, and not just for the microscopic area that you're printing.

    Okay, so that Shadow Red filament is magnificent. Also, I definitely don't care for yet another proprietary nozzle...that alone will keep me from ever buying this printer unless the community manages to adapt an existing and widely available nozzle, as was the case for putting standard Volcano nozzles on the SV06 Plus.
    Aside from that, this printer certainly will be plagued by inconsistent build quality (see also: Nero3D's SV08) and should have had a few more months of development before release, but deserves praise for likely being able to do to the Voron 2.4 what the SV06 and SV06 Plus did to the Prusa i3: making a good printer design more accessible to hobbyists from a wider variety of skill levels and income levels.

    I'm very interested in this printer. Please reprint that helmet at 100% and show us!
    But I'd also like to see you do something at the other end of she spectrum like a WH40K or WW2 tank but at moderate speed for quality to see how it can print that type of thing. I'd be very keen to see one printed with a 0.2 nozzle and a 0.1 or even 0.05 layer height.

    I have always liked Sovol, I had several sv01's and have a few sv07's now. The number one complaint with almost all of these Chinese 3d printer companies is the firmware, it never really gets polished, have to rely on others to release a stable, good working firmware, I am guessing it may be the same with this one. I wish you would have created that new profile yourself and did some test prints so we know for certain if it is a profile issue or a firmware problem.

    • @trugbilddrachen
      @trugbilddrachen 12 วันที่ผ่านมา +2

      I agree. Both Nero and this review show the firmware still needs some polishing to get the basic functionality promised. I will use the mcu fan for example. Most if not all haven’t of these mfgs figured out klipper to only turn on the mcu fan when the board is working such as heating up. Qidi, Creality and this unit. While I appreciate the community in improving, you should have basic functionality esp less than 3 weeks away from shipping. These units are boxed and are waiting delivery at the warehouse at least in the US. Users will have to update their machines right out of the box.As I mentioned in another post where are the profiles? I would have assumed they were testing other filaments than pla in house. As the extruder is similar as the sv06 , I wonder if the profiles could be used.
      This was an affordable large format core xy with vanilla ish klipper (remember they did turn off updating by default). I want this to succeed, but the mentality of “it’s ok, the community will fix it” when it should function out of the basic as promised is an old way of thinking. It’s not the ender 3/pro.

I can only imagine that someone spent countless hours designing, sourcing the parts, testing, etc., to come up with a completed product, and a company comes over, mass produce your finished design, and gives you a super small amount as recognition, it doesn't feel right. • @elleryfg7853
      @elleryfg7853 6 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I disagree with you. A Bambu Lab P1P is $600 plus shipping. It's an open frame, it's a smaller build area, it's not open source (that's an issue or disadvantage for some), if you want full functionality you need to go through their server, that's a NO NO for a lot of people. The SV08 is larger by a good margin, it's open source, it's fully functional in your network without exposure to the Internet, it's upgradeable since it's open source, uses Klipper with all its advantages. It's lacking a multi material system but to some that's not a deal breaker. All in all it's better than the P1P in a lot of ways while lacking in just one area, the multicolor system. In my case it would be a better fit than the P1P for my specific needs. I don't care about multi color printing that much since I do mainly functional prints

    "40 hours of voron would take" this is a punch line for every paid promotion it seems like, building V2 from kit is hardly 15 hours of overall involvement if you have to put heat inserts by yourself.

    You can tell the difference between reviewers who are independent and those who will say anything to keep companies happy...
    This is the latter..

    You are a good salesman. Not as good as the one from Israel, though. Why can't companies rely on honest user reviews, but hire youtube influencers...

    Extrusion problems, the profiles are not good, it needs people to fix it and deal it properly because the manufacturer didn't do it.
    I wonder how SOVOL can be sure that those printers don't have extrusion problems, VFA, wobbling, cooling issues when they didn't even bother to make proper slicer profiles and test the products they sell. So what happens if someone buys one now and 3 months later it becomes evident that it ain't a "profile issue" but it is the whole printer that has the wrong combinations of motors, belts, drivers and maybe cooling?
    This sh*** has to stop, they get paid with good money the should provided finished products.

    Said the same old things as the other Sovol salesmen and their stream. The 3D printer space has been totally bought by shady companies selling unfinished products, backed by kickstarters and tested by customers...

      Interesting comment. Why am I a Sovol Salesman? Didn't I say what needs to be fixed in my opinion? It's true that many of us get early printers and they are still being dialed in, but that happens with EVERY COMPANY! Even the Orange one sends printers out to the masses that are not "finished". This wasn't a Kickstarter and as with any open source 3D Printer, there is always tinkering and dialing in. Is there anything you liked about the video? What would you have done differently?

      @@TheEdgeofTech I woudl have liked to seen the shadow red helmet printed full size, thats the only thing i woud have liked done differently, very cool and it didnt look so bad from here. The filaments i use were very sensitive to nozzle temperature, if they didnt get their certain degrees they'd print funny. Even some just printed funny no matter how much i tried to dial them in, i thought it was the printer until i changed filament and got a perfect print, so its the filament thats usually the most variable in the equation, and that you have to tune for. E-steps etc, why they all look great if you use their model and their test filament, its already dialed in, until you use your own filament on a your own model you realize you have to dial it in, so not bad.

      At least it has a price tag to match and is open source. Anyone with experience can tune the printer profiles in 30 minutes. Even with my work X1C I still had to put a while into tuning profiles, that thing hates circles with any overhang. Not to mention all the first batch issues with prusa XL at that price range. No printer is 100%, but I would expect more at higher prices and expect less at lower prices.

      Did you come here to look for someone bashing the printer? Are you salty that it's not a bad rig for the asking price?

      Once the SV08 has "matured" a bit, what would you rather have if you have the space for it: This $599 SV08, or a $699 Bambu Lab P1P? That's the sort of comparison that makes at least _some_ sense.
      Comparing _any_ $599 pre-built 3D printer vs a $1200 Voron kit that takes 30-40 hours to build is a bit meaningless. ( Not counting $900 cheapo kits as they may somewhat defeat the purpose of a Voron in the first place).
