  • China has been targeting the Philippines with economic, political and military warfare. The Philippines, which has a much smaller military, is no match for China's military might, so it's had to come up with creative ways of fighting back so it can punch above its weight. In this episode of China Unscripted, we discuss the Philippines' Angels of the Sea strategy, the Philippines' relationship with China and how Chinese propaganda is backfiring. Joining us in this episode is David Day, the chairman of the Global Risk Mitigation Foundation, and one of the leading international legal practitioners on the Indopacific region, including the Philippines.

Trust me those Philippine women officers know exactly how to speak good english and chinese and they understand the cultural implications and how to address this correctly and efficiently with the chinese soldiers. Many Philippinos are part chinese and have learned not only the language but the writing from lola(grandma). I have had many dealings with Pinay, and there are many of them that speak 3 or more languages. I know two that I have met who can speak the national language Tagolog, their regional or local language, English(almost all of them speak english), and a couple others. One girl spoke chinese korean and japanese in addition to the local national and english. Many speak other languages as well. They are VERY SMART people.

As a Filipino residing in the Philippines the analyst explanations about everything was perfect. He perfectly summed up what happened before in Obama's administration and to the current US administration. And our stance regarding the US has always been pro even if Duterte at the time was anti because if you look closely to his Generals, Cabinets and especially the Secretary of Defense it's always the opposite of what Duterte had said.

China has been bribing US officials since the 1970s, to include the Bushes, Clintons, Bidens, and Obamas.
Neil Bush is the Hunter Biden of the Bush family, and has been for decades.
      China financed Clinton's 2 elections in 1992 and 1996.
China financed Obama's campaign as well. In addition to huge transfers of military technology, China also gets political favors for their bribes.

Du30 was never anti-US 🤭 He parroted his own generals when says like: "I like China, but the military, you know?"
He was against the neutrality, trying to be vague then spouting the commie argument against the US, trying to bait China into feeding in more money - which they barely did.
He was trying to play both sides - if China invested more, the Philippines benefited. If China didn't take the bait, the US would be forced to be pro-active.
He had the lesser win after China tried to stall it 😅

@@BAROKsiAKOno Duterte was the real power but he kept his side strong. He did not give up his only leverage which is the Mutual Defense Treaty. He kept lorenzana in his Cabinet to have an opposition voice.
The MDT was his bargaining chip. Maybe he is wrong with how he keeps it calm with China, I think that the analyst is right when he said that it was because of the Chinese pledges.
The Philippines is now slowly moving away from China, taking ZTE and huawei slowly. We are seeing NOKIA and US based 5G telecom deals nowadays. Even the Philippines biggest online banking transaction giant GCash is now partnering with VISA.
We are slowly seeing our country's economic pivot towards like-minded democracies.

As an American the fundamental difference between us and our authoritarian socialist style enemies like the Imperial Japan, Communist China is that they are extractive - they want resources or territory and we are trying to build an alliance to counterbalance the communists. The CCP has a track record of bullying their neighbors and when they started bullying the Philippines you guys must have figured hey the Americans have left twice and returned to defend us, we are better off in an alliance with them. I agree but be warned: the CCP has their tentacles deep into our establishment via bribes and there is a marxist takeover underway in America so you may be on your own for awhile until we can recover, IF we recover. So if war breaks out you guys may need to dig in for awhile and find a way to survive against drones, night vision, chemicals and possibly biowarfare attacks until we can rebuild our military personnel.
One last point : we have a history of leaders, like MacArthur who was hired by President Quezon to build the army, with personal ties and love of the Philippines. So much so that he insisted on returning and destroying the occupying Japanese forces instead of bypassing them and leaving the Philippines to suffer an occupation that would lead to famine as their supplies got cut off. Good luck stay free.

China cannot deny the fact that this is an established international law. The CCP knows this and cannot win the argument. That's why the CCP don't want to settle the ownership issue peacefully in the international court but rather resorted to gray zone sea grabbing and bullying tactics. "Angel's of the Sea" is certainly an interesting, albeit not new, concept of psychological warfare. I think it is a little bit more complex though than the short explanation suggested about the Chinese suddenly feeling intimidated by some "mother" figure at sea. Given the rampant misogyny and sexual harassment of the CCP version of Chinese society, it's hardly like they're overwhelmed by respect for women. But maybe there lies part of the key, misogynistic cultures/societies often display both hate and fear of women.

Filipino women have utterly strong personalities and are very very competent, as soon as they decide to do something important and serious.
Of course there is cultural respect of women in China, but it depends on assigned roles.
At least half of this efficacy comes from the Filipino women as such, whatever education the chinese guys in charge may have received.

Even Vietnam given a choice between China or the USA chose the USA, which given their fairly recent history certainly says something about how the Chinese are regarded by their neighboring countries. China is almost perfectly boxed in by sworn enemies that only pretend not to be to keep the CCP quiet. It would seem that The CCP may have been encouraged to believe that their bullying had worked or was working and have only just worked out that it has not worked and was not going to either. However large and powerful a military and country may be invading and profitably subjugating another country has always been difficult but is perhaps more difficult today than at any time in the past. Even the Romans had great difficulty pulling this off and the British rarely did it this way either. Not even the USA seriously attempted to do this in either Iraq or Afghanistan and could not even manage to reach or sustain their most limited ambitions. As for the Russians in regard to Ukraine. Whatever happens from now on Russia is the biggest loser.
At some time and somehow China gained delusions of grandeur way above its selected station in the world pecking order and so lost its collectivist mind, Russia did likewise. There is not and never was there going to be two world powers. This was never going to be allowed to exist other than within the imagination of a few collectivists and anti-Anglio-American intellectuals at the UN. That debate was permanently settled back in 45. What greatly helped build China up is being used to bring it right back down to Earth again, and the quicker the CCP gets the message the better for them, China, and above all the Chinese people.
Very few like the boss and still fewer say that they do to others until they look seriously at the alternative or get a taste of him or her. Not even the Chinese people trust the CCP to act in their best interests so why any other country should wish to genuinely do so would be a mystery if so much as even one actually did so.

In 2015 Indonesia reportedly sunk 40 illegal fishing vessels, including one from China, and others from Vietnam, Thailand, the Philippines and possibly others to protect their fishing grounds. In 2016 Argentina sunk a good sized Chinese fishing boat illegally fishing. So why doesn't the Philippines sink these illegal fishing vessels and enforce their rights, especially if they can get the U.S. Navy and Air Force to back them up in this enforcement action to clear the Chinese out of their waters?

As a Filipino, I was frustrated with how the mainstream media unfairly reported Duterte and the soundbites are the ones that stuck. We knew that Duterte pandered to the Chinese as a strategy. Most of us were and are still pro-US because we more culturally identify with the US. That said, we also know that as far as the US is concerned, the Philippines is not really that high a priority compared to other countries. Duterte also was a very competent president and the changes and the laws passed during his term was felt by the masses. That is why he is loved by the people even up to now. Now with the US under Biden, his Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin said "The US will never take our allies for granted." Its good they admitted it. And its good to hear it from the Philippines long time ally.

Obama had militarized that whole region which was already militarized, with more bases, assets and war machines. So, it is the US that had militarized that area --South and East China Seas, the surrounding areas and around the world--with 800 plus military bases and with its powerful navy. And US orders Britain, Japan, Australia, etc., to bring their war ships into the South and East China Seas, and the surrounding areas. So, US is the real aggressor and bully, not China.

I think one thing that was overlooked during that situation when Duterte asked Obama about enforcing that arbitration award And the United States didn't get involved about enforcing it was actually the right thing. Yeah the Philippines is an ally of the United States but the agreement that the USA has with the Philippines is that the USA will defend the Philippines if it was militarily attacked / invaded. What the United States was being asked at that time by the Philippines was for the United States to be on the offensive. Enforcing is an offensive move. The agreement simply states that we will defend the Philippines. Not be on the offensive for the Philippines. So the remark of the American government doing a bonehead move and washing their hands from it is 100% inaccurate. So in this situation the US did not screw up. It was the Philippines 100% responsibility to enforce the arbitration decision. This is complete disinformation. Actually the main issue that Duterte had with Obama was when they had a meeting and Obama brought up the subject of all that killing that was going on in the Philippines with its war on drugs. Since Duterte was very narrow-minded towards the USA compared to his friendliness towards China and Russia, he took that as Obama was trying to tell him how to rule his country. So in spiteful move he turned towards China and Russia and thought that he could prove to the world that the Philippines didn't need the USA and that they were better off with China and Russia. Needless to say he was proved wrong. It was clear to see that Duterte had a near hatred for the United States during his whole time of administration

You do realize that the Chicoms funded Obama's campaign with micro donations laundered through online accounts, right? Obama was a stooge for China through and through, just like Clinton and now Biden-su.
The Chinese funded Clinton's campaign as well. It was a huge scandal being investigated at the time, but Clinton fired the FBI Director 6 months into his Presidency, in the beginning of an Independent Counsel already formed due to all the scandals he had.
The US Navy conducts freedom of navigation patrols around the world, especially for regions where we have fought to free others from tyranny or regional hegemony.
Clinton and Obama turned on this by doing China's bidding, which is what was used as the pretext to get Duterte to turn to....China and Russia. I'd be looking at Duterte's bank accounts first.

Philippines only asked for support against China's aggression. Obama is still a bonehead for giving Duterte a half-assed answers after Philippines ALREADY won the arbitration in Hague and Filipinos expect that as a treaty ally of the US. Not just Philippines, even Japan is also seriously in doubt about America's commitment with them in defending against their Senkaku Islands. America is very lucky with the Filipinos being mostly pro Americans despite being Duterte as a president. China just bribed Clinton, Obama, and the Bidens. It's how they do business. The normal man takes the wad of cash. The arrogant man takes 2 wads of cash.
Biden is cheaper because of his extreme moral compromise (ped0phile). Ped0philes are much easier to bribe.

During the 2012 standoff, that would have been an excuse because Philippines haven't file the arbitration at Hague. After Philippines won the arbitration in 2016, it is already inexcusable. Obama should have sought joint action with Philippines for the enforcement of UN ruling. America would look good around the world and it would have partially destroyed Duterte's credibility because he was selling the idea at that time that America with all their interests over China will not lift a finger to defend their weak, little ally in the Pacific.

Although the Philippines won the arbitration law, no country could enforce it. Many people believe that the ruling is just a meaningless piece of paper. UNCLOS, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea, is powerless against any country that has a strong military. President Duterte may have come to the conclusion that challenging China would not benefit the Philippines, so he sought to establish a more favorable relationship with China instead.

@@Will_Smith_Slapping_Xi_Jinping Amnesty International is a Soviet front, for starters. They were looking for non-aligned useful idiot volunteers who could be distanced from the party in the wake of Stalin’s distrust of the Comintern’s foreign activities.
I can go down the list if you want, since I’ve been studying ideological warfare and communist front groups since the early 1980s.
Some of the groups mentioned are anti-communist, while others are communist. An easy way to distinguish them is how dumbed-down the communist messaging is, appealing to emotions rather than logical faculties.
For example, CATO Institute and Heritage Foundation have been calling out Marxist front groups for decades, whereas Amnesty International and other “peace groups” are merely ways to recruit stupid college kids and volunteers to do the bidding of the Russians.

Personally, I think to force the CCP re-think its expansionist ambitions, the west should invest its business interests in South East Asian countries instead of China. China's ambition is only possible because of the economic boom its been experiencing, and this is something the west can slowly cut ties from. Not only will this deter the CCP from continuing its expansionist goals but this will also foster a more friendly economic partnership with the ASEAN neighbors.
