I can think of 4 individuals who managed to overcome cyber conversion to one degree or another. The Next Doctor, Nightmare is Silver, this episode, and Doomsdays. I think this episode and The Next Doctor make the most sence since in bith the cybermen are low on power and using damaged or improvised components, so it's not entirely unreasonable that they wouldn't be as effective.
Of course, the most important thing to point out is, that's exactly what a 2-litre bottle of milk looks like in the UK. I saw James Corden at the Old Vic in London earlier this year, opposite Anna Maxwell-Martin (Suki from 'The Long Game', among many other things). It was a serious part, and he's a really good actor.
This episode has one of my favourite, "Doctor still not quite understanding how humans works," moment when he grinds some pepper (or salt?) across Craig's shoulders. And of course the line about the robot dog, "...not being as much funas I remember," is a clear reference to K-9.
If I had a nickel for every episode in which the power of James Corden's love saved the day, I'd have 2 nickels which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice.
They might have looked like the Cybus Cybermen from the parallel world that we saw with the 10th Doctor, which were metal suits with human brains, but these are converted humans like the Cybermen from Classic Who, not necessarily from the same planet, but the same process. I still don't think the conversion can be fought or reversed though.
Not the first time he's said that. :P For a bonus point, can you name the first two times he did say it? (ETA: This includes Classic Who as well. Sorry @pokemaniac05.)
@@gestaltdude I know in The Day of the Doctor & Deep Breath, also Series 11 EP 2 but in reverse. If you even count Classic Who well i can't say due to spoilers on what EPs it is says for Britany because she is not that far up in the series.
Yeah the power of love is cheesy and a pretty lazy way to solve a story but Cybermen have been defeated by an “emotional influx” before (the series 2 two parter ends with all their emotional inhibitors being turned off and they all die cuz of it). This episode isn’t amazing or anything but it’s sweet; I do love the Doctor and Craig’s relationship and Alfie is adorable.
At the risk of sounding argumentative, don't forget something similar happened in The Next Doctor. True, it wasn't love, but Miss Hartigan was able to override the same conditioning to which they subjected Craig by sheer force of will, which to me establishes a pattern.
I'm sorry somone spoiled the River reveal in this episode. Maybe you'd guessed as much, but nothing beats seeing it for yourself not knowing for sure. I liked the episode and seeing Craig again. The Cybermen story almost seemed tagged on to what was a sitcom episode. It was nice filler.
And a British TV legend in general, specifically for Nurse Gladys Emmanuel in the sitcom 'Open All Hours' and Auntie Mabel from the children's show 'Come Outside'. I watched both of those growing up, and was so sad to hear of her passing in 2022.
Fair emotions as a reason, don't remember this episode very well. Cybermen, Craig again. Sure. It's ok, not memorable. Next episode is obviously better.
There is a scene in NuWho where they show someone doing what Craig did, the Finale of season 2: The leader of Earth Prime's Torchwood, "I did my duty for Queen and Country" she bucked the programming to shoot Cybermen in the face, because her belief in what she was doing for her Country was stronger than the Cyberman conversion process.
You see for me i love the Cybermen as villains but i prefer the classic ones i never really liked the NuWho Cybermen because they were far too robotic and stompy for my liking while i find the classic ones creepier and scarier and abit more fleshed out. I will say it's nice to have the cybermats back again they always creeped me out as a kid. Having said that this was my least favourite Cyberman story of the Matt Smith era not so much because of the Cybermen it was mostly because of James Corden i just can't stand the bloke and that whole thing about "love" to stop Craig from being converted into a Cyberman was abit cringe i thought.
Who ever gave you the information on River in Discord, gave you a spoiler, it was not their job, they just got a little excited, it was supposed to be confirmed by the show in the final clip you saw of this episode, that River was the Impossible Astronaut, put back in the suit she wore as a child in 1969.
Interesting to see someone actually recognise the cybermats on their first watch of this story, that’s the benefit of going through the classic series
Torchwood lady fought the conversion for queen and country

“Bit out of practice, but I’ve had some wonderful feedback.” I’ve got that on a t-shirt.

Is that a 5 pence coin? That would be around 13cents US

@@pokemaniac05 In the interest of avoiding said spoilers, all I'll say is both times were Patrick Troughton, after 1970.

Wow, I never noticed the envelopes before!
I can't wait for the next episode, one of my favorites.
Thanks for the year of great entertainment, Britany. I hope you have a great New Years!
next epsiode will be a wild ride.
The ending is pants, but I enjoy the rest of the episode a lot.
Smithyyyyy

The you have redecorated, I don't like it line is a call back to classic Doctor Who. The second Doctor says that to the third doctor.
Buckle up Whovian the ride is getting bumpy.
Ah yes, the episode where Cybermen are killed by the power of LOVE, not series 6 high point for sure, just needed a few Spare Parts ;)
Ayo

@ yeah that’s true
@@gestaltdude also even those her body was converted the leader of Torchwood still fought against the cybermen.
You really appreciate then wheb you realise that they are coming to an end.
I'm sure even Jody grew on some before she left.
I really love this episode

The plot's a little silly, but I still like it for the return of Lynda Baron, who was Captain Wrack from the classic story, "Enlightenment."

Will we ever see more your Classic Who reactions on TH-cam at some point?
Maybe the more popular stories one day. The problem is they do not do well on TH-cam. Other reactors have had the same problem.
Somebody spoiled it for you on Discord??

Introducing a baby just to put its life in danger so the hero can save it is cheap storytelling. Matt deserved better
