I agree but there is no reason or excuse for Georgia in this one. They could have easily won that game. They let them off the hook on Defense and Georgia were way too conservative on the offensive side of the ball. I hate it but when you play Bama you will not get many calls and Bama will get away with a lot. A coach has to prepare their players for that.

If you expand to eight then the 9-12 teams will have a gripe about not getting in. In college basketball there is outrage from the 69-73 teams about not getting in the "March Madness" tournament.
Not really nobody really thinks they have a chance unlike the 5th or 6th team.
As an Atlanta Falcons fan I wish that the NFL had college overtime rules so that the Falcons would have had a shot in the Super Bowl because right after the coin toss I knew it was over.

Coach Saban has 6 titles overall, and has won 5 consensus national titles in 9 years. The last time a college did this was Yale from 1887 to 1894. Coach Saban has led Alabama to the greatest college football dynasty of all time. Best of all, this unbelievable winning streak is not over. Roll Tide.
I agree 100% with Joel KlatT. 8 Team Playoff would Make Conference Champions Automatic Bid and I don't want to see a Conference Champion with 3 Losses in Playoff. I like having the 4 Best Teams with No Conference Champion required. Conference Champions should be a tie breaker not an Automatic.

2 of the 4 National Champs of the CFP era have been 4th seeds, Ohio State in the first year (2014-15) and Bama this year. I would love a 6 team playoff with the first 2 seeds getting a bye and 3 v 6 and 4 v 5. 1 v (4 or 5) and 2 v (3 or 6) and the winners in the Naty.

The Georgia safety never thought Tua could get the ball to Thompson before he could over the top. Tua being left handed allowed him to throw to his left quicker than a right handed qb. A right handed qb would have had to reset his feet then throw. This would allow the safety more time to react.
have power 5 conference champions get in, best group of 5 team, 2 wild card slots to the best teams remaining. Wild Card slots make every game matter and it can also matter for seeding purposes (to get easier games early in the bracket so early season still matters)
College football now is starting to overshadow The NFL. These players deserve compensation . These games are making super bowl type money these days and by not paying these athletes is sports slavery. . All of the sports analyst have jobs because of young college players.

The same reason I love cfb more then any other sport because of the value of the regular season, the system can be tweaked, but do not expand and do not have automatic bids for anything

I understand why Joel supports the four team playoff but he ruined his case when he started making comparisons with March Madness. That is an unfair comparison because college football has less teams and less games making regular season games more important. Also, its not like making an eight team playoff would mean that bad teams get in.
Why does there have to be any automatic bids in an 8 team playoff? Why can’t the committee just decide the 8 best teams in the country like they do now?

there has to be a way for mid majors to get into playoffs, at four teams it guarantees that only the power 5 plays for the title. he's talking about reg.season but only mentions the power5. what about everyone else's regular season mattering.

I wouldn't mind seeing a 5 team playoff. #4 and #5 play for the 4 seed.
And that's why there needs to be a 6 or 10 team playoff.
Give all the conference champions a de facto automatic bid (you COULD be left out, but not too likely) AND give the top 2 teams a bye in the first round that's played on the higher seed's campus.
Then there's more incentive than to just get in the playoffs. You want that bye.

I played college ball. Trust me.......you got kids right now that don't give a damn about the Papa Johns Bowl and those like it.....if you make more playoff games. ...you are going to devalue the bowl system even more. You are seeing it now with all the players sitting out these meaningless bowl games. FACTS! When you hear these Older players talk about "I would give anything for one last game with my team"....it's always players THAT ALREADY HAVE MONEY that say that.
Even if you clinch your conference you would still want to keep playing because of seeding.

Here's what's going to happen guys:
1) We will EVENTUALLY go to an 8 team playoff.
2) It won't be Next year, or RIGHT away.
3) People will have the SAME arguments in the 8 Team playoff system.
4) The regular season will be devalued to some level.
5) Bowl games will be further devalued.
6) Any negative effects from the 4 team system will be amplified by 8 team.
7) Sometime WAAAAAAAAAAAAY down the road we'll be discussing more than 8 teams in an effort to RUIN college football.
Non conference games still would matter for Wild Card contenders to get leverage on each other with a better resume

Respect to college players , they earn so much money for their schools. I believe that the fact that they don't get paid makes the game more exciting . They have more hunger and love without millions of dollars being involved.

Keep the same system we have now for rankings but bring back the bcs computer so it can rank these teams. We will never see a team that isn't power 5 even in the top 10 with this system the computer takes all those "metrics" and would properly rank them. UCF and Wisconsin were very similar in all the metric stuff yet Wisconsin was always about 8-10 spots ahead of UCF the reason is big 10 the actual metrics would've put it different that's my take I like the ranking we are doing now just need to pick better every team should have a chance. If you have over 150 teams but only a little portion can even get a shot at a title you got problems.
When USC would lose under Pete, they'd drop 7 spots while an Alabama lose usually means no more than 3 spot drop.

The regular season already means nothing, If it really meant something Wisconsin and UCF would have been in as as undefeated. Alabama only got in because Wisconsin had to play an extra game.
Wisconsin and ucf are just not good enough. If there was an 8 game playoff it wouldn't make any difference. They wouldn't be able to beat 2 godlike teams in a row.

Cfb main issue right now is it backhands at least one conference champion a year. That really isnt a good look for the sport. Furthermore the teams not in the power t will never be respected even when they beat big schools in bowl games.
I really like Joel Klatt as an analyst, I even liked him when I was kid, but when he’s looking st the straight ahead camera, what is he looking at slightly to his right? Like I always thought these debate style shows didn’t have prompters but it looks almost like he’s staring at one at times

Football is great, but college football can be hard if your team has a bad year or is not good in the first place, WHAT'S the point of watching??? Clemson and Bama have made it the last 3 years... 2 teams in this 4 year playoffs have made 75% percent of the time... that's pathetic. Only one loss teams can make it in, that's pathetic the team in the NFL with the best record doesn't always win it all, do they? Pats had an undefeated season and they lost, the panthers went 15-1 and they lost it... should be more teams in the playoffs, I would guarantee you there would be more viewers

Diamond Forger, as a casual fan(this is who you want to get to watch), I agree with you, because if you watch the same team every year, doesn't that makes for really boring entertainment? Daniel and the others and you too are avid football fan, I am not. I did see the second half after the fact because everyone said it was so great and found it to be kind of boring, because I have nothing invested in it. Why does the Super Bowl has such high ratings or more is why is such a special spectacle? It is because the teams that gets there have gone through a more serious competition to get there, there is a higher mountain to climb, a bigger obstacle to obtained. It is not much when you have 5 weeks to prepare for 2 games, that is really counter to college being about students athletes. Make it more interesting, get more drama, and like Colin said, get more stories that people care about. Sports should be entertaining, but if there are the same characters and same plot, it is not.

Why are they so caught up in Pete Carroll? No one thinks he's at the level of Saban. Carroll is a legendary coach but not at the level of Saban in the collegiate level.

No way the NCAA can do an 8 team playoff. Teams already play 16 games if they win their conference championship too.
The only option in my opinion is 6 teams.
Seeds 1 through 5 are for conference champions. Seed 6 is for the highest ranked non power 5 conference team.
THEN seed 1 and 2 are determined by ranking, and get a first round bye. That way having a good out of conference schedule will get you a higher ranking and the non power 5 will try to play better non conference games just get that high ranking for the 6th seed.
This makes sure that no conference is double represented. You can’t have a national champion who didn’t even win their division much less conference and no one can complain their team didn’t get in because you have clear rules and stipulations on how to get in.
There should be 2 weeks between each playoff round. It doesn’t make sense for their to be 1 month between conference championships and semis (5 weeks off for Bama since they didn’t play 🤷🏻♂️) and then only a week between the semis and national title (again a benefit to Bama because UGA had to travel across the country).
