These kids spent their entire lives in a society for which "floating" is the punishment for EVERY crime. They do not have a concept of metered justice. It is an unknown concept to them.
Not really they had history lessons as referenced later in the series even thought their society operated in that manner it does not mean they aren’t aware of other societies and how they used to function down on earth. Though it’s more like stories they’ve heard.
@@BrockSamson-i1i It is explicitly stated right at the beginning of the first episode that very crime, not matter how small, is punishable by death. So, yes, they spent their entire lives in a society that punished every crime with death.

While I don’t agree with Murphy in stringing charlotte up I understand why he would want it, emotions are high he was just accused and strung up for a crime he didn’t commit. Charlotte is also old enough to know right from wrong and banishing Murphy for charlotte taking her life was a bit extreme in my opinion considering they know there’s a threat out there which would essentially be killing him which ultimately seals Murphy’s fate
Agreed, I really did not like Murphy but I was actually a little on his side, not in what he wanted to do, but in the sense that I did not want him to be banished.
I really dont. While she killed him, she had nothing to do with hanging murphy. I get he is pissed to be hanged and when the real killer is known, they do not want to punish him with the same crime. But she could just kept her mouth shut and he would die! She basically saved his life. They did not really hang him up for murder, they hang him up for murder and because he was a bully. He was pissing (no pun intended) people off. I would understand if he wanted to kill people who wanted to hang him up. But not the one who saved his life. The punishment is obv different. Take it like this: If you kill someone, you had Charlottes reasons and you misunderstood someone. It does not make it okay, but it is extenuating circumstance. She is also a kid. In our current life, this would reduce the penalty. When you bully people, act like Murphy and kill someone, it wont reduce your penalty. If you kill someone after you robbed 10 places (you got some bad past), again, you will probably get worse penalty than someone who kills someone without history of violence.
@@mirekblabla3041 I understand that to an extent but look it from the perspective that at this point Bellamy was seen as their unofficial leader so what he said goes and instead of allowing for a different sentence to be carried out he allowed them to string Murphy up but then when he finds out it’s not true he goes back on everything he allowed. Also Murphy was only brazen enough to pee on someone because of the way Bellamy allowed him to which gave the idea to Murphy that any and everything he does will not have consequences because he was getting the silent okay from Bellamy. And again I have to reiterate yes I know charlotte is a child but so is Murphy he may be older but he’s also just a teenager who I would argue is more impulsive and less reasonable.

Murphy did not have crowds hype when he wanted to hang charlotte. And if i remember correctly, he was trying to get crowd to kill charlotte but Bellamy was like "Thats enough Murphy, shut up"
I'm going to enjoy hearing your take on this series. I have strong feelings about this series but I'll keep them to myself until they become relevant to the story. I want to hear how you take future events and decisions. I know your much further in the series. Very excited
I miss this show .. i honnestly think because of the moral choices of the characters it is actually worth rewatching years after uve watched it the first time and appreciate how well humanity's nature is shown.. the hardship, the struggle and how that changes you if you only have the will to continue living and bealive that change starts with you .. and how you can change the world by leading with example.. its painfull and beautifull to watch ..

First time for me watching this show too; but I have to wonder if there were remnants that survived OR did the colony send a '100' down before. I mean they've been on that floating space station for 100 years; there could have been a previous crew sent down maybe. Got me hooked here. Thing is if there isn't anymore resources on the ark; then they NEED to go down to the surface if they have any chance of survival. All in because there is no other choice.
If you think about it though Rob, Mags walked off into the acid fog and died. I think its basically the same. If it had just touched Atom maybe he had a chance but he fell and it covered him. So i guess him being on the ground then getting kinda consumed by it, just hit him with excruciating pain that even if he could get up, he wouldnt have made it to the cave. Sad because i did like Atom and would have liked him to be a part of the main group and would have liked to know his backstory. But yes Raven is here.

Episode 4 was really good, Charlotte could had been a great character as the seasons went on, and who knows what gonna happen Murphy, its a dangerous place out there for sure. Its good Bellamy & Clarke were able to finally come to turms with each other. Kane is one of them characters that you think is bad but is really just making the hard decisions that other people can't make.
16:43 everybody hated Murphy anyway, but they don't have to kill anyone this way. Bossing people around yet not working himself. Pissing on people who really are working that want water but he was being an ass!
Murphy is dangerous and has issues for sure, but I think Bellamy gets on my nerves the most. He’s so selfish that his choices have negatively effected everyone, or at least so far

As someone who doesn't usually get emotional watching tv shows or movies, that father volunteering for Section 17 breaks me every time.
Yeah, this show can be pretty brutal sometimes, but I love how they showcase the humanity and the hard choices.
