    You can't really go wrong with either of these mics. Let me know which one you prefer in the comments. I'm especially curious if you're not already invested in the DJI ecosystem; and if you are, DJI has done an amazing job of cultivating ardent fans.
    ...and here's here to find either of them on Amazon:

    Omg...whoever thinks the Larks sound better need to clean your ears lol the Larks are much older tech and every single person reviewing them sound hollow and a metallic echo to their voice..the minis are way more rich, full and no added artifacts and metallic echo...hands down no comparison the DJI are newer and sound better

    I would go with DJI sound is similar but DJI is more rounded especially with memo app and DJI products like pocket 3 and action 📷 plus M2 doesn’t have wind sock, and build quality is better on mic mini. Plus DJI is known for updating firmware which highly doubt that will happen with M2.

    • @DeployJeremy
      @DeployJeremy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agree 100% with all of your points, but the M2 does come with wind muffs (dead cats)

    • @sandorszabolcsi

      @DeployJeremy that must be new because don't see that on the combo unit, still buying the mic mini because my hollyland I have never gets used due to sound quality compared to other units I own.

    • @DeployJeremy
      @DeployJeremy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      They are in the original packaging. It's a fair point though. The dead cats, microphone hinge clips and other accessories kind of get lost (in a drawer) since they don't go in the charging case. Those do fit in the DJI case.

    I definitely think it depends on your voice. The other reviews I listened to I preferred the DJI. I do think the Lark M2 is a brighter sound but I feel like the DJI sounds a little cleaner

    • @DeployJeremy
      @DeployJeremy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I found the DJI slightly cleaner in terms of the noise profile. A little like a dynamic mic vs. condenser would compare. For example, you don't hear breathing as much with the DJI. Both are good though.

      If I'm saying "there we go", it's directly after the scene/mic transition. OBS does take a second to normalize after it overlaps the audio tracks, so that's likely the weirdness you're hearing. I recorded about 10 takes off this comparison and neither clipped with my gain settings. I am also pressing buttons and moving a bit if you heard a click or tap.

    Great video, would love to have you speak louder to see what happens when the DJI Mic Mini kicks in the "anti-clipping" feature. It was difficult to hear a difference -- both sounded really good.
    I bought the Lark v. 1 some 1-2 years ago. For that one, it was not possible to get the sound into a PC with stereo sound -- both channels were mixed outside of the PC, and entered the PC as two identical channels. This was a bummer, because I could not separate the sound from the two mics in post and balance the sound.
    I seem to have seen that the Lark 2 has the same limitation. (The Lark 2 has a USB interface to PC; the Lark 1 required a separate adapter.)
    Question: does the DJI support separate channels for each mic when it is available in the PC?
    [My use case: I occasionally arrange some MS Teams seminars which I record, with some speakers in US via Teams, and some in my auditorium in Europe. I want to use one mic myself - as seminar leader, and give the other mic to the speaker, who could then walk around in front of the audience. Problem: one of the speakers is extremely soft-spoken, and I need to balance the sound from the two mics. The soft-spoken-ness is so extreme that I actually would have liked to be able to record the voice locally on the transmitter in Float 32...]

      @@DB6904. Apologies, I don't. I've only used it indoors. That said, when I use lapel mics outside for my day job, I tend to tape them to an undershirt then wear another shirt over that one. That's probably what I would do with the Hollyland except I would use the magnet on the inside of the undershirt vs gaff tape. You tend to lose a little top end, but it has a little to spare (I suspect it would sound close to the DJI mini). The wind muffs for the Hollylands are a little tricky to mount and view LED status.

    Honestly, I can't tell the difference. I like the DJI because it has a much better wind muff design than the round monstrosity that the Hollyland muff is. I use my Lav mics outdoors so I do appreciate the noise reduction features and the wind muff designs. Just curious why you would use a small Lav mic in a studio anyway. Would you not use a Sennheiser 416 on a boom arm or something similar? So, I don't understand your comment on how noise reduction sounds, when you operate out of a studio. Regardless, thanks for the video.

    Bewildering test and bewildering replies to it. The sound of the Lark is pretty obviously coming in hot - ie. oversaturated and on the verge of distortion. You don't seem to hear it, and many other repliers don't seem to either. The DJI sounds much more natural. I can only assume that you have the Lark's receiver amp set to three (max) out of three. With respect, I'd suggest that you redo the test with the Lark set to one or two, and see if there's a difference. Thanks for the video.

    • @DeployJeremy
      @DeployJeremy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Only the TRS receiver has a gain knob. I used USB-C. I set levels in OBS mid-yellow peak like I always do. You must be on some bewildering headphones to hear clipping.

    • @HeathcliffBlair
      @HeathcliffBlair หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@DeployJeremy I didn't hear clipping. As I said, I heard oversaturation, as in an amp being overdriven but not quite to the point of obvious distortion. This typically results in a rough, unprofessional sound. I'd guess that the issue arises from the RX amp being set too high rather than anything to do with your OBS setup. But hey, if it works for you, then fine.

    I'm currently torn between both of these right now as well. Can't really tell which one sounds better.
    Sometimes the lark sounds better and sometimes the DJI mini sounds better ugh.
    I really like how the Larks are so small and not that thick.
    Although it seems that the DJI might have some more features and some significant upgrades.
    Really like the size though. Just wish there was more connection options etc.
    Although still difficult decision, it's not like I'm really into the DJI ecosystem except having pocket 2 in a DJI drone.
    I Personally. Use an Android phone as well.
    At the same time it seems most people are pushing the DJI mic mini.
    Don't know if it's just cuz it's a new product or if it's actually better.

    • @DeployJeremy

      They are both good, dji mini tonality is a little darker, but a little cleaner. On my voice, I like the Hollyland. Also it's more subdued with the logo covered and it sits flatter when you magnet mount it, so it looks like it's pulling your shirt less. The DJI fans are pretty fierce, so if I ever say anything neutral to negative, I feel it in the comments. Also a lot of these initial reviews were sponsored with either free samples or payment. Either way, to be honest both are good, I'd pick based on your voice. If your voice is deeper, do the Hollylands, if it's higher pitched, do the DJI. An EQ also solves for either 🙂

    No need to compare the M2 to the Mini, cuz the M2 has a major design flaw that I'd pointed out.
    I bought one myself and on first unboxing, the metal plate at the back of the M2 has already fallen out due to the powerful suction of the magnet.
    The metal plate only secured by some kind of hot glue like glue. Nothing lock the metal plate in place, so eventually the plate will fall out from the M2.
    Well, u can use some AA glue to put it back but you won't be able to tell when will it happened again. You may lost your M2 if it drops without you even notice.
    The Mic Mini on the other hand has a clip on and the magnet is sticking to it. The clip is pretty solid without any moving part so no chance you'll lost your mic.

    • @DeployJeremy
      @DeployJeremy  หลายเดือนก่อน

      I haven't had this happen to mine and I use it quite a bit. The one advantage of it not having a permanently attached clip is that it doesn't stand off as far from your shirt if you do use the magnet, so it's more flush and appears to pull your shirt down less. I like them both.

    The Lark M2 has more presence in the sound. I also like the understated look of the Lark M2 with the black sticker. The DJI's surface is multi-sided which makes it reflect more light, also the logo is slightly distracting. Having said that, the DJI offers better features accessible by the mobile app, also it's slightly less expensive. For those living in Europe like me, DJI has better distribution here. Hollyland is harder to find.

      @ that’s fair and there should be one better than the other. But if it’s that close then the average new to video creation either one should suffice. But like anything if your budget allows for the more advanced option then do so.

      To be honest for most talking video applications with the speaker on camera, the as audio just needs to be 'good enough to not be distracting'. Both of these meet that bar. And because they are lapel mics and tend to be close to your mouth, they reject room echo better than most mics in or on a camera.

    Lark M2 better

    Hollyland Lark M2 is still unbeatable about it's size and sound, but it's a mono mic. DJI Mic Mini is for all Osmo Pocket 3 and Action 5 Pro users. Othewise Rode's Wireless Micro (although is not micro at all) is pretty good. The muffs on Lark M2 and Rode Wireless micro are pain. The charghing case of DJI Mic Mini fits the muffs while attached to the mics which is the ONLY right way for next editions. :)

      I have the single mic with soft case for the DJI, and it's quite nice for the price point tbh. I have the airpod style case with the Hollylands and still put it in a sleeve to avoid scratching it. So the DJI is a bit more compact in a bag, just not quite as easy to charge

    I love the Hollyland Lark M2. I was also wondering how they compared. Thanks for sharing.

    Thanks for the comparison. The Lark M2 sounds crisper and brighter. Good baseline to do any post work. The DJI sounds good but surely a touch bass boosted.
