    Been using a Sigma 30 1.4 on my old NEX6 for a few months and it’s super sharp. Very impressed. Just ordered the 56mm 1.4 for some portraits.

      The 56 was really a great lens. It was just a little long for what I wanted. But I think the whole line lenses is great!

    Hi Bill, great review and the lens looks great.
    As for the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 vs Canon 32mm f/1.4, I can't comment on build quality, but from all the research I did the Canon lens is significantly sharper. It's miles sharper than the 22mm f/2 too. It probably explains why it's 75% more expensive than the Sigma 30mm lens (here in Australia).
    Thanks for this video, I think I'll be buying the 56mm f/1.4 for portraits. I enjoyed seeing your images taken with it.

    • @BillEricPhotography
      @BillEricPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks. I can't imagine the Canon lens being that much sharper. This lens was tack Sharp. They are both really nice lenses for the M50. It's really going to come down to preference I know for me I would go with the sigma. you have to hold these lenses in your hand to feel the quality. The Canon lenses just don't feel like this. I should probably get my hands on the Canon 32 mm before I comment though! 🤣

    Good video Bill, looks an excellent lens. As a micro 4/3 user now, I believe this statement is right in saying that sensor size does not directly affect depth of field, but indirectly does so by requiring a shorter focal length as your sensor gets smaller to achieve the same angle of view.

    • @BillEricPhotography
      @BillEricPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Paul, I'm not really sure about the math on all of that but as far as sharpness this seems to be a very very nice lens. It also just feels good oh, like you are using a quality piece of equipment.

    56 mm on Canon EF-M is about 90 mm full-frame equivalent (89.6). It’s 84 mm full-frame equivalent on Sony E-mount.

    Hi Bill. It's Ivy. I'm back to watching camera videos and soon to shoot again but for now, I'm playing catch up. The price doesn't seem so bad on this lens. I thought it would be higher. I love that you do the run and gun style too because that to me is also real life, just as much as taking the time to shoot, if that makes sense. Anyway, see you in the next one. Cheers to you both and boogie boogie. Ivy.

    • @BillEricPhotography
      @BillEricPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Ivy, this is a very nice lens if you are looking for taking images with a shallow depth of field. I totally agree that run and gun shooting is the way most people shoot. I think there is a small percentage of people who shoot in the studio but for everyone else it's a lot of shooting on the fly.

      That might just be the compression on you tube. The images in the Ronjon ship were the only ones shot at a high ISO. Those are definitely noisy. All of the others were shot at ISO 100.

    Have you had the chance to try out the 30mm yet? I’m possibly looking at either the 30 or 56 for work. I take a lot of shots of golf carts that we sell, and I’m looking to get some really blown out backgrounds.(our options are limited for a nice looking background so the more blown out the better). Which do you think may be a better option for me?

    • @BillEricPhotography
      @BillEricPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is a native M mount lens you only need to use the viltrox speed booster if you are using Canon EF Mount lenses. one of the main reasons to buy a lens like this is that it goes directly on the camera and keep your kit small.

    • @BillEricPhotography
      @BillEricPhotography  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I would go with the 30 mm. After using the 56 mm I found it to be a little long and constantly wanted to have a little bit of a wider field of view. I think the quality on either one will be the same and the images are beautiful.

    • @davemunoz9742
      @davemunoz9742 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      If you like doing portraits definitely the 56mm , the longer focal length gives you more compression than the 30mm, your obviously gonna have to step back quite a bit to get your composition, then again the 30mm is still great option and gives you more versatility but if u strictly eant to do portraits then the 56mm is the way to go

  • @njrivetelite

    I shoot full frame.. I have a wide arrangement of lenses to shoot various styles..
    I want a small walk around camera.. I kinda wanna snag an M50 body only.. & adapter plus I'd get the sigma 16 & 30mm.
    I have an APS-C 10-18mm that I use on my EOS-R for video..
    I'd be interested in the 16mm & 30mm most.. and would adapt the rest of my lenses if I really wanted to shoot more on the m50.

      On a crop sensor camera this lens is about 85mm which really isn’t long enough for candid street photography. You’d be better off with a 70-200.

      If you're going to be doing any type of logging with one of these Sigma lenses then I would get the 16 mm. The 30 mm and the 56 mm are going to be too long to vlog with. The kit lens that comes with this camera is actually pretty good for vlogging so if you wanted to use that and then get the 30mm 1.4 Sigma for your other photography that might be a good combination.
