I just finished the Triple Deck Briefcase and found the instructions, patterns and video to be wonderfully prepared. It took some concentration and a fair amount of leather but was very instructive to those of us improving our leather skills. I had a question of Mr. Craftsmangus and though being in Thailand he answered back quickly and completely. A great project for us all.

I am also doing leathercraft as hobby; design, adjusting length is hard but stiching thick leather in multiplalayers is so difficult. This couple is doing amazing job, every single hole you must use force and 0.4-0.6mm progress for each one requires great patience. Love to watch your posts and creative designs, cheers 🤗

Oh my word...this is absolutely phenomenal! Great craftsmanship! Superb! The other amazing thing...I think I could do this!! Haha! Seven years ago - I started making bookmarks. This year I've used your patterns & training to make a few bags. Now I'm ready for a briefcase....amazing journey! Of course...I will need to add fish leather to a couple of steps! Thanks a million to Si & Gus! ❤️

This is a wonderful briefcase. I have been dreaming of crafting one with exterior pockets and such. I noticed that you used 1.8mm thick leather. Might I still be able to complete this with leather that is about 1.4 to 1.6mm vegtan, I was afraid it might be too thin to try this project out.

I know overall weight is a consideration with a three compartment briefcase but I think I would be inclined to go up one weight for the 2 outer shell panels. It just looks a little thin and pliable especially when you could fit a lot of items in the case. Alternatively a slightly higher tempered leather, Bridle maybe. I suppose two steel rulers adds to the weight too but they are probably cheap and easily obtainable but maybe aluminium? I like the way the zip is done but it limits what you can get in that compartment but it is helped by the way its gusseted too. Not sure a full zip is what I would like but thats just personal preference. No zip would mean the centre section would open to its widest. You could line the outer shell and have a small zipped pocket? I note the gussets are tapered slightly. This narrows the overall opening but I think it works. Nice i has working buckle closures which adds to the load carrying strength but an option would be for them to be attached closed to the flap only so you only had to use the latch to open and close the case. That substantial latch would be strong enough I think, but again personal choice. How you have it gives added security if you are carrying a laptop inside just in case the latch came open. Great work.

This is incredible! How many sq ft of leather does this bag use if I modify it as a single gusset?
I'm also planning to add a newspaper pocket at the back of the bag.

    • @craftsmangus
      @craftsmangus  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

I'm not sure if I ever mentioned before in other comments.
But if the original design area will be as follows:
For this bag, the leather area will use about approx. 100.2 sq.dm. or 10.78 sq.ft.(I place all the layout to fit in rectangle form it will fit in 159.25 x 62.92 cm. or 62 ⁴⁵/₆₄" x 24 ⁴⁹/₆₄"
But it needs to consider as width and length per pieces in case if you would like to pick the best part of the leatheror if the leather did not come in the exact area too. The approx. boxy area are as follows.
      - 39.00 x 28.26 cm. (15 ²³/₆₄" x 11 ¹/₈") @4 pieces for the main body of front, 2 of middle, and back.
      - 8.58 x 28.26 cm. (3 ³/₈" x 11 ¹/₈") @6 pieces for side gusset of left and right.
      - 35.39 x 6.40 cm. (13 ¹⁵/₁₆" x 2 ³³/₆₄") @3 pieces for bottom gusset.
      - 39.00 x 23.41 cm. (15 ²³/₆₄" x 9 ⁷/₃₂") @ 1 piece for flap.
      - 39.00 x 11.90 cm. (15 ²³/₆₄" x 4 ¹¹/₁₆") @ 1 piece for set of Front n back interfacing, and handle base.
      - 42.24 x 27.60 cm. (16 ⁵/₈" x 10 ⁵⁵/₆₄") @ 1 piece for flap interfacing and all the bag accessories.
      - 45.73 x 13.20 cm. (18" x 5 ¹³/₆₄") @ 1 piece for set of handle parts.
If you plan to make it only single gusset you need to minus 2 pieces of 39.00 x 28.26 cm. (15 ²³/₆₄" x 11 ¹/₈"),
      then minus 4 pieces of 8.58 x 28.26 cm. (3 ³/₈" x 11 ¹/₈")
      and minus 2 pieces of 35.39 x 6.40 cm. (13 ¹⁵/₁₆" x 2 ³³/₆₄")
then you need to adjust size of flap, accessories and some other position n proportions.
      Hopefully, this can help.

    • @craftsmangus

If keep the same bag thickness.
Double gusset need to add thickness to be 1.5 times each.
Single you need to add thickness into 3 times.
But if the overall thickness change, they all need to be re-measurement because the flap dimension will be change too.
