Nick is a LIVING LEGEND!! His PASSION for trees, wood, grain of wood, milling etc is beyond measure. Nick is modest, but in my book, NICK IS A ROCK STAR!
I actually gasped when I saw the redwood bean come up on the saw mill. Those cedars in life are indescribably majestic, and their wood does not disappoint. Thank you for saving every bit from these trees possible. Nick...what more can I say, Lalande is blessed to have him.
It's incredibly satisfying when we get to take the wood we fell and turn it into useable wood, especially knowing what it's going to used for I'm sure they must have felt even more so then us, with our modern "toys" 😂
Im a long time lurker 😝 just wanted to pop in finally and say that this channel lights up my life. I love the daily antics, relationships, trials and tribulations, but above all THE LOVE. I learn so much every day just in the small things you do. I’ve come to adore Nick in his awesome work singlets- what a genius! And I lament that I didn’t choose the career path of tree expert- What a job! Each and every one of the wonderful people who live within Lalande are so gifted, each in their own way. Very much looking forward to the daily injection of Laland Love, Hilarity and Care. It’s on my bucket list to stay with you someday. Sending all my love and lots of sunshine from Australia.
I read a book years ago, called the magic of thinking big! And it it talked about when you have big plans you always naturally attract all the people that are needed to fulfill those plans that it’s like magic they just show up in droves! Your channel your dreams are perfect example of that how you have naturally attracted the absolute perfect people Like Dan, the gardener and Nick, the tree cutter and of course all the wonderful people that you have working in the Château helping you with the bed and breakfast and just helping you in general! It’s beautiful to watch! One of my favorite things was when you and your mom were by yourself then Covid hit and all of a sudden this magical man shows up And helps you through that crisis! Of course, he and his magical dog and cat went on to their own channel Sylmar was a godsend when he showed up in his camper van! He was able to easily quarantine himself, and you ladies were able to stay safe and yet he was such a help in time of need. I don’t know what would’ve happened without help like that during the Covid mess anyway, I love watching how these people show up just magically exactly the person you need at exactly the right time.
The visual footage and accompanying music (as well as the skull and crossing chainsaw symbol present on the actual milling machinery) all helped create something of a very "Pirates of the Caribbean" feel to the milling segment of footage in this latest Chateau Diaries Vlog. Someone has been very busy working out and actually arry out all the filming, with a diverse variety of filming angles all included. Then, piecing the various bits of footage together to tell an effective story once it was all collected and collated..... there is such a LOT of care and effort put into videos just like this one, on this channel. WELL DONE, to those doing all the work behind the scenes to create these clearly complex and also most entertaining vlog videos. WELL DONE, and may you also get good rest each week to help pace yourselves on the health front.
Nick and Amaury's faces... They were like delirious school boys with that beautiful wood 😍 As for Ollie and his 'too many' tequilas!! 🤣 So funny. Hope he had a clear head the next day 😂
Think about to sell some of the redwood for the chapel. Maybe your Cousin could make some furniture out of it and sell it to the highest bidder. Offcuts could be used for pocket knife entusiasts. You could reach out to companies and sell it to them. There are even make your own knife handle kit and it has just a bit of wood in it that you can carve. I recomend LAGUIOLE since its a french Company, very respected and collectable.
What a combined blessing to be able to grow your own beautiful wood and to have two people Nick and Amaury who both have extensive knowledge how to create with the timber.
Hi Stephanie and Co., it would be nice if you could share an update on some of the chateau's projects? Like the pantry room, what was going to be Nati's apartment (how is Ian?), the gift shop, the terrace, it would be nice to know how things are progressing. Cheers!
Can you imagine how high the bidding would go on a live edge table made from Lalande wood by Aumury?!? That could finance quite a bit if he had the time to make more than one. 😅
So good to see Jerry and Mommy. The wood mill is certainly a huge benefit. Nick is worth his weight in gold. Amoury’s smile said it all at the woodpile. And Portugal- what can you say. Lovely. And the short scene of all the Château ladies was a real treat. Lovely video. Thank you.
I knew the woodgrain of the acacia looked familiar. In the US we call it black locust. Helen on The Littlest Château vlog calls them "silly trees." They'e been a real challenge for them. The smell of the blossoms is absolutely intoxicating and their ample clusters of blooms are so lovely. Bees make delicious honey from them too. I've found the thorns to be quite challenging though. They're extremely sharp and quite rigid. Handle with caution and serious protective clothing. I would swear there's a toxin of some sort on them, on top of the painful jab. I also found them to drop branches, sometimes significant parts of the tree, without warning and for no apparent reason. They were also quite prolific in my Minneapolis garden. They were actually illegal to plant there. It's considered a nuisance species.
I’ve said it before on other channels and I think on the Chateau Diaries but I will say it again, Nick is a gem and is worth his weight in gold. All of that wood is an amazing amount of work. Absolutely wonderful what he has accomplished and yes obviously I think Nick is fabulous. Great job. When travelling I have found if I can say thank you in whatever language is being used helps me out so much. I learn yes and no too and try to learn numbers and I’ve had nice things happen. I’ve been kissed on my cheek quite a few times. 😊 One day I will get to Portugal. It’s a long way from Sydney Australia so I will have to watch your tour Stephanie and dream about it. Thank you. May you all please take care and stay safe. Louisa. 👏👏👏❤️❤️❤️🤩🤩🤩
Fabulous. Thrilled that Percy is recovering so well….. Gerry…..thanks for the hysterical pipe blowing treat! Nick is a treasure! Another delightful vlog. Looking forward to the Porto report! Love to you all ❤
Nick is amazing with what he does with all that wood and when he goes to Dan Preston's place as well, he is a treasure and certainly knows his stuff. Seeing Nick and Amaury getting excited over the oak was a delight to watch. I know how they feel. when I help my husband with his woodwork projects and we get some lovely wood in the smell the colour the wood texture is something woodworkers can relate too. Nice to see every one and enjoy your trip Stephanie.
The milling is so exciting! Sounds like furniture making could be a really profitable enterprise for the chateau in the future with all that beautiful wood available and such talented people around to make it happen
I know there was excitement about the Oak, as a hobbyist wood worker I was overwhelmed by the stack of splated maple. What a gold mine of beautiful wood you have!
I remember your tour of that hotel and your conversation with the husband & wife owners about the fabrics, vignettes, paneling…..and the bathroom cubes - which I thought was brilliant (such Italian style problem solving). Was very pleased to see such a well organized and stocked lumber yard. There’s enough there to keep a craftsmen busy nonstop for years!!!…..hope you erected a shelter for it soon so it’s out of the winter & spring wet weather as much as possible so it doesn’t get ruined, especially the valuable oak & cedar. I made the mistake of not completely covering my white oak and I lost a lot of it to rot within 2 years despite the fact it was in a open shelter….. I should have put it in at least a three sided shelter instead and maybe even used a loose plastic tarp over the front. Sadly, we live & learn hard lessons sometimes. Anyhoo, have fun - we’ll be watching. Cheers!
Nati and Marie being the personification of a devil and angel on your shoulder is hilarious. I can’t decide who would be who but those were the vibes 😂
I love the way you take us to a totally different lifestyles , its so beautiful in your world, your friendships are wonderful, it's good to escape sometimes, but i am very blessed and contented with what i have, a home and a loving husband. Thankyou all for sharing your world with us.❤
Just a idea maybe a shelter for all of the wood might be needed especially for the winter or a cover for the different sections the wood is amazing beautiful colours and it all in your own back garden and you are also recycling and to be able to use it in the chateau which will look so beautiful
Well Stephanie, I have to say a very large number of people in this video from France to South Africa and of course Portugal. A big shout out to Isabella. Percy and Percy were so happy you're coming home and to Jerry. Keep us laughing. Jerry and then with all the wood being explained to it's just amazing how far things have come even with trees being cut down. It is wonderful to follow this journey with all of you. I want to say God bless you all to your family and if I've left anyone out it wasn't intentional. But again, God bless all much love❤
Some great timber, i have milled timber for many years. It will dry much more evenly and split less if you paint the ends. We use it for easy identification too.
We don’t have any tree guys around here like that! Actually milling the wood, now that’s something. Let alone rocking denim cut offs & flip-flops. What a pair, Nick & Amoury.
Wow....very impressed with Nick and his sawmill what a blessing that Lalonde has her own wood wonderful!. Amery must be so very happy that he has choice wood at his beck and call! Thank you for showing us Mummy and Gerry. Can't wait to see a video with Percy in it. Have a great time!
Nick has one big potato peeler!! Fascinating to watch the gigantic logs being milled. Redwood is so beautiful, along with the other wood. Looking forward to the Travels With My Friend video. So glad Jerry is with mummy and Percy. ❤
This is fantastic! I do wish Percy was well enough to come on camera, soon I hope. Wishing you a speedy recovery Percy, Eat all the calories you can, a little extra sauce or butter and lots of protein to build back muscle, your body has used your protein stored in your body for healing. I was very ill a long time ago and my weight dropped to 78lbs. We don't need to see all of you, maybe just your feet walking across a floor or a wave from a gloved hand. Sending much love 🙏
How brilliant! La Lande’s own timber mill! What a wonderful way to be sustainably using the timber, instead of putting it all through a mulching bigger. Very impressed!
Nick has shown that the trees are seeding themselves in the light patches created by him. He is not clear cutting and replanting. This is not a tree farm. They are also leaving some dead trees for wildlife. My Step Family has a tree farm and did a 25-year cut, and it is ugly. Nick's selective cuts are not destroying the forest. ❤
We think we saw you and Ollie outside Quinta De Regaleira yesterday? Was it you? Long time fans and I wanted to run after you to say Oi! but you were walking down the hill and I would have lost my place in the queue. Hope you’re enjoying Portugal ! X
It was us! What a shame we’d already walked past! We filmed a vlog for @Travels with my Friend there and we stayed so late that we were practically alone in the garden, I was terrified we were going to be locked in. What did you think of it?
We thought it was absolutely beautiful. Can’t wait to see your vlog of it! Have a wonderful rest of your time in Portugal! Enjoy all the Pasteis de Natas ! X x x
We makes gates out of cedar and use the oak for fancy stuff like countertops, stairs, floors, furniture. Love both woods! We have both on our farm here in eastern Ontario, Canada It is so wonderful to have your own lumber! Grew up with a family with a saw mill & forest! Lucky you to have a Nick & a forest! And of course, a wonderful cousin that is so talented with the lumber!
You do know that NICK is worth millions cause of his skill, abilities and immense talents! A great blessing to have your own forest, flowers and food sources….Truly abundant at La Londe! ❤
You should feel so proud of yourself Stephanie, because even if your channel slows or or heaven forbid stops, you have the tools to produce long term income from your own forest to make furniture to sell etc, with very little expense, a life times income to put back int your home.
Hi Stephanie, our home is built from trees on our property. We had a portable saw mill come to our location and saw the boards. We then had to stack all of it.That was 26 years ago and we love our home. You will enjoy the convenience of having lumber on your grounds for use. Good luck with it.
Wow! Who would have envisioned a sawmill at Lalande and processing your own timber. Amazing work by Nick. I somehow can tell your loving life at Portugal 👏👏❤
It's certainly not often that I see Canadian products in French chateaux....but look at that Woodland Mills saw working up a storm!! I've been saving up to buy one for the same purpose, love seeing it in action! It's brilliant that you can use your own wood 💖
Wow what a luxurious lifestyle you lead Stephanie! Flying here and there and bringing us exciting vlogs from all over. The native wood will be lovely to use at the chateau. The redwood would be great to use out by the lake.
Excellent segment with Nick. His passion for wood is amazing. Sometimes it's hard for me (and the closed captions) to understand so could someone explain to me what he plans to build for Marie for her flowers? I hope you are re planting trees vigorously to replace all the cutting. I highly recommend more redwoods as they are more impervious to bugs and exceptionally strong, considered in my home states of California and Oregon to be the best wood for construction but it's now too scarce and is mostly prohibited and protected. Redwoods are even more endangered because of our recent surge of wildfires but historically they were the best forests to pop back after a fire, very hard to kill. It's these extra hot wildfires that burn so intensely that are endangering our redwood forests. Another advantage is that they are very long lived when you leave them in and aren't prone to falling. So save the redwoods and save the earth by replanting wherever is best, likely the innermost and furthest reaches of rhe property. They do best in groves or larger and are a spectacular tall backdrop to more various specimen trees you, Nick and Davey choose to ornament you gardens. Thanks❤
Morning Stephanie, watching the amazing Nick mill that timber, he is such a legend and a gentleman, of course the same goes for the talented other gentleman your fabulous cousin Amury, wonderful to see Isabel Gerry and oli hope you had a good time in Portugal, the hotel you stayed in is beautiful.🙏👍❤️🌈
As a woodworker and furniture maker and I am in awe of the timber slabs that you have at your disposal. Some of those slabs have what it known as spalting(the darker patterns through the timber grain) and is highly sought after by furniture makers. Although, they probably need a few more years to dry properly before they could be used for furniture. No doubt that Amaury has a moisture meter to check them before he uses them considering how carefully he was with the panelling for the Grand Salon. Oh, and I'm not a known relative of Dan's but you never know as my parents come from Lancashire.
I love you guys so much. Stephanie- please look into getting a Psoas Release Tool to release the tight musculature surrounding your hip which may be a huge contributing factor to your OA. Has Phillip tried taking lactase enzymes to help him process dairy? So much love to you all ❤❤❤
Can we all just take a minute and agree what a treasure Nick is?!? ❤
Between the two chateau, Nick the woodsman has proven to be an incredibly valuable member of the teams. I continue to learn from him. 🧡
Nick is a LIVING LEGEND!! His PASSION for trees, wood, grain of wood, milling etc is beyond measure. Nick is modest, but in my book, NICK IS A ROCK STAR!
Nick is absolutely incredible..What a super find for the chateau …Brilliant….
He is so talented
I actually gasped when I saw the redwood bean come up on the saw mill. Those cedars in life are indescribably majestic, and their wood does not disappoint. Thank you for saving every bit from these trees possible. Nick...what more can I say, Lalande is blessed to have him.
It's mind-blowing to think how they milled wood hundreds of years ago, all by hand, shaping posts and beams! Nick is a true artist.
It's incredibly satisfying when we get to take the wood we fell and turn it into useable wood, especially knowing what it's going to used for
I'm sure they must have felt even more so then us, with our modern "toys" 😂
Gerry is so funny! So is Isabelle. How nice that Percy is there with Isabelle & Percy. Can’t beat family & friend support.
Nothing like having your own wood to make anything needed at the chateau. Amaury is going to have fun! ❤
Nick should get the Woodsman's equivalent of the Nobel Prize. He has a vision for the entire forest!

Looking forward to Portugal tour. Oliver’s sleeping companion was just ideal. Quiet when you want quiet, chatty when you want to talk.

The wood from Nick took my breath away! Stunning and very special that is from Laland!
Nick is so amazing and intelligent. You are so lucky to have him. I always enjoy watching him work and what he is up to.
I love how knowledgeable nick and amaryllis are
What a spectacular video! So nice to see Oliver, Jerry, Nick, Amaury, and everyone else.
Agreed! Something for everyone!
Poor Molly and the cone of shame! She looks so cute! Bless her. ❤
Ahhhh! Yes, I recalled the hotel when seeing the cube bathroom in the middle. An amazingly ingenious idea!
Jerry always makes me smile! I hope he keeps Mummy entertained and glad that Percy is doing better!

Nick, I hope you understand your value. ❤
Miss seeing you both at Dan’s ❤❤
Nick is such a rockstar😎 He definately knows his stuff and he’s got all the tools. ❤
What a combined blessing to be able to grow your own beautiful wood and to have two people Nick and Amaury who both have extensive knowledge how to create with the timber.
Loving that 'live edge'...loving all that lumber!
Hi Stephanie and Co., it would be nice if you could share an update on some of the chateau's projects? Like the pantry room, what was going to be Nati's apartment (how is Ian?), the gift shop, the terrace, it would be nice to know how things are progressing. Cheers!
My chickens were so startled by that lovely Gerald melody. Thanks for the laugh😊
Well done team. There are few things quite as satisfying as using a quality, bespoke product from your own forest or farm. I salute your effort.
The wood you have on your property is amazing! You could sell a couple pieces of the wood and finance a little more of the chapel work. :)
I loved loved loved this vlog! All of my most favourite vlogging people - Stephanie, Vivienne and Oliver xxx 😊😊😊
Nick is doing a magnificent job with the lumber! Happy to see Mummy and Gerry and hear that Percy is up and about. Portugal is beautiful! 🙏❤️
Ollie was toast, and so darn funny!

Fabulous. Thrilled that Percy is recovering so well….. Gerry…..thanks for the hysterical pipe blowing treat! Nick is a treasure! Another delightful vlog. Looking forward to the Porto report! Love to you all ❤
There really is no one quite like Nick. Great video, as usual. ❤️
Such lovely wood!! Well done Nick and Maury! Happy news about Percy...hugs and love to all from Canada 🇨🇦
What a clever idea to have the mirrored bathroom.
Nick is amazing with what he does with all that wood and when he goes to Dan Preston's place as well, he is a treasure and certainly knows his stuff. Seeing Nick and Amaury getting excited over the oak was a delight to watch. It is lovely to hear from Gerry and your mom! I’m so glad thAt Percy is recovering!
Gerry’s musical stylings has me rolling 😂. Gorgeous. Glad to hear Percy is in good company and feeling better.
Yay! Glad to see Gerry and Mummy! And love to Percy! Glad he’s feeling better.
That was so nice! Thank you for taking us along. I can't wait to see the video you and Ollie produce!
I remember your tour of that hotel and your conversation with the husband & wife owners about the fabrics, vignettes, paneling…..and the bathroom cubes - which I thought was brilliant (such Italian style problem solving).
Was very pleased to see such a well organized and stocked lumber yard. I could just follow Nick around and listen to all the knowledge coming from him all day and I’d be beaming!! Oh haha didn’t realize I made a pun
Nati and Marie being the personification of a devil and angel on your shoulder is hilarious. I can’t decide who would be who but those were the vibes 😂

I mean wow! The wood from your own grounds. Very ethical and sustainable. Porto looks GLORIOUS
Ahhh such lovely people all of you!
Such a treasure! Nick! To have such a variety of fabulous woods at your disposal. Terrific!
How very exciting, Now LaLande can go into the upscale furniture making business! So very very glad you have been so fortunate.
Nick has one big potato peeler!! Fascinating to watch the gigantic logs being milled. Redwood is so beautiful, along with the other wood. Looking forward to the Travels With My Friend video. So glad Jerry is with mummy and Percy. ❤

How brilliant! La Lande’s own timber mill! What a wonderful way to be sustainably using the timber, instead of putting it all through a mulching bigger. Very impressed!
You are sooo lucky to have Nick! Actually you are surrounded by some amazing people. 🦋

Sustainability at its best.
We makes gates out of cedar and use the oak for fancy stuff like countertops, stairs, floors, furniture.

We have both on our farm here in eastern Ontario, Canada

Amazing what you can do when you have the right equipment. Fantastic for LaLande. Beautiful!
WOWSER some equipment there ❤❤
These two guys are jewels!
They do such fantastic work.
Stephanie is lucky to have them.😊
Love the T-shirt. Totally cool.
Stunning wood! Should make an outdoor bench (or something) out of Pavlina’s acacia and call it Pavlina’s Bench
I hope some of that wood will be used inside the Chatea as well 😊 I am exited to see, what Amaury can make with it! Nick really is a treasure!
Yeaah Sir Percy is home and doing well. So good to see Mummy and Percy.
Nick, you are a miracle!
I love watching Nick too.
Thanks❤
Those parts of the wood you think is trash would make beautiful plant pots people would buy. Good for flower arranging around the chateau.
How wonderful that you are using the wood from your property. Nick is so knowledgeable.
Much needed laughter Thankyou Stephanie and team 😂❤ x
The wood is beautiful.
Delightful. I want to visit Portugal now! Loved seeing Jerry and your mom. Lovely video as always
i love nick, wat he is doing is beautiful
So much love to you all ❤❤❤
Some beautiful grain on those Timbers.
Thank you so much for all the joy! ❤️🫶❤️
Fantastic! Can't wait to see your travel blog with Ollie.
I miss watching renovations at the chateau...
