Did you notice that she does not take a breath when she switches from holding a note to singing the song. Amazing she has that much breath control and capacity..
Linda is a national treasure, whether you're Mexican or American. Her album, Canciones De Mi Padre, is her life's masterpiece. She has said it's the work she is most proud of. This is from her show she took on the road - the entire show is a monumental production - unforgettable. Viva Linda! ❤❤❤❤❤
The band was considered one of the best in the world. I was fortunate to see this concert live. You could feel the power of her voice even when she wasn't near the microphone. Wow
I think Linda brought her Mariachi soul to country and rock music. Thank you for your reaction, another heartbreaking mariachi song is Por un Amor , live.
“Your musical soul is like facets of a jewel, and you stick out one facet at a time. I tend to work real hard on whatever it is I do, to get it up to speed, up to a professional level. I tend to bury myself in one thing for years at a time.” ~ Linda Ronstadt
The album CANCIONES de MI PARDRE is the top selling non-English language album in USA music recording history. The pride of Tucson, Arizona. ¡Viva, Linda!
EVERYTHING from this album is "worth checking out" and IMO "Must Hear". And, EVERYTHING on the TV concert is an exquisite gem of vocal, musical, dance, costuming, stagecraft, lighting, etc etc etc. MONUMENTAL ❤❤❤
This is a number from her hour plus show with Mariachi Vargus which she took on the road in the late 1980’s. This song is about the rodeo and was actually the last song in the show. That being said, imagine singing incredibly difficult numbers for nearly 90 minutes and still having the voice and energy to do this. It’s actually her father who was Mexican and German (hence the name “Ronstadt”). She grew up in Arizona near the border (when it was a much friendlier place). Her family would travel back and forth to be with her Mexican family. She grew up hearing this music and was determined to do this, despite the objections of her record company. She obviously did it in a very big way and it was extremely successful. I have watched the entire show and the pure joy on her face while singing these songs is evidence of how much it meant to her. I had the pleasure to see her twice during the 70’s with her rock band and then again on Broadway in “Pirates of Penzance”. Her live shows are legendary. I would have loved to see this live. I cannot say enough in praise of this amazing woman. Great choice. Nice reaction. 🌺✌️
As you have frequently said Debbie "The most beautiful voice on the planet" ❤ I'm envious - I never had the chance to se her live 😢 This particular show was absolutely magical - blows my mind ❤ the "Great Performances" TV version I've just been watching there's a finale - they weren't done yet! - two more songs: Cancion Mixteca, and Volver, Volver. Watch as the credits roll and we are graced with a special smile from la linda Linda ❤
Linda is mostly German. But the German men on her father's side of the family migrated to Mexico. So, Linda has Mexican-Spanish blood via the women on her father's side....grandmother, great grandmother. Her mom was German, English, and Dutch decent.
Thank you, that was great! It's just jaw dropping that she walks up to a microphone so nonchalantly....opens her mouth....and that sound with that strength and pitch perfection comes out. No idea what she's saying. :)
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has Mexican heritage on her dad's side. Growing up she listened to many types of music, including Mexican music, which was sung by her entire family. She does a great job singing in Spanish. I have her her album "Canciones De Mi Padre". Sadly she has progressive supranuclear palsy & can no longer sing a note.
Thank you. I am a professional musician and have to say their musicianship is at another level. On a cruise many years ago, There was a string quartet playing perfectly when we boarded. Later the same guys did reggae on the deck flawlessly. During dinner one evening they were mariachi (what they really were) and took requests from each table. People would try to stump them, they would huddle, and come out playing like it was the song they knew best. Unbelievable talent and knowledge.

Her father was Mexican. She did a whole album to honor him called "canciones de mi padre" (songs of my father) which this song is from

I'm told her mother also had Mexican heritage although not as direct.
Her Grandfather was a Mexican Rancher that emigrated to Arizona.
This really shows her vocal range and power
Lo Siento Mi Vida written by Linda and her dad
I am happy that as the torch passes from Linda to Angelina it will hopefully be in the best of hands for decades

The greatest most versatile female vocalist of her generation.
Love it.

It really was quite impressive. I expected nothing less from Linda. Thanks for the recommendation!
@@ModernLifeForThe70sMindA simply commanding performance ❤

Her father is from Mexico
mariachi band is redundant. Mariachi is a band
