  • Not the best conditions to chase the UP-Donation train, very windy and cold conditions along a little bit of snow thrown in. The Challenger, UP 5511 and the Centennial were awesome to see trackside. The captions list all the locations on the video. Thanks for watching comment like and subscribe

    Great video, Jeff! I got to watch the move as it rolled off the Government Bridge and onto the Rock Island Arsenal, would've been a bit better if it wasn't really cold and windy out though...got to be with some friends though!

      Thanks, it was definitely cold. Some really big wind gust once in a while.

      @@jefftoft5568 Oh definitely, being in the middle of the river with the wind blowing off the water and being elevated didn't help much either. Could've been worse though!

    Thanks Jeff. Good to see 3985 again. Where do these go after Silvis?

    • @jefftoft5568
      @jefftoft5568  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They will be rebuilt at Silvis by the Group that runs Milwaukee 261. They bought the former Rock Island shops that NRE owned. NRE still has some space to do work but RRHMA who the UP equipment was donated to owns the building now. Plan is to rebuild equipment, run excursions and have a museum down the road.

    Nice chase of a rare move Jeff! I see the CNW F unit is no longer along for the ride. They must have dropped it off somewhere before the Spine Line. Boone maybe?

    • @jefftoft5568
      @jefftoft5568  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks, it was left behind at Council Bluffs I believe. To be moved to Boone at a later time by the UP.

  • @Bob.W.

    Jeff, another question:. Why did this train go across Iowa on the IAIS and not the UP main? Maybe easier to route to Silvis and lower speeds?

    • @jefftoft5568
      @jefftoft5568  ปีที่แล้ว

      From what I heard the UP was going to turn the train over to the IAIS at Des Moines but due to train crew availabilities on the UP they took it over at Council Bluffs. Less traffic on the Iowa too so that could be another reason. The F7 was also left at Council Bluffs to be taken to Boone at a later time.

      Dropped off at Council Bluffs, UP will be taking it to Boone sometime in the near future.
