To grow our farm, we need to invest in it, and this year we went big on peonies. This video is the unboxing of those peonies, and are these peony roots ever massive! We are really excited about all these varieties of peonies, as they are a mix of early, mid, and late season peonies, in lots of our fav best selling colours. Now we have enough for a massive field of peonies, that will provide for us for many years to come. It's going to be hard not to let a bunch of flowers bloom, just so we can see what we have with our own eyes. 3 years of waiting till they are mature, that will be tough!

I love this content 🤩 Serina is the world's coolest person ❤
I'm going to pin this, so that Ian sees this, lol
Can we fast forward to Spring so we can see the field of a thousand peonies? ❤❤❤😊😊😊
I know, right? This whole winter thing is nonsense
I love peonies and was involved in a group buy in Ottawa. I spent $70 dollars and my husband was “grumpy” with me. Oddly enough I ordered Bridal shower and it didn’t come in and I had to substitute a different white. I almost bought the “Do tell” and decided I didn’t have space. Silly me, because now I have regret.
I enjoyed your vision and your enthusiasm. I live for the “Three days of Peony Perfection” every year.
Hi Kat- do you recall the company name you purchased your peonies from? Im looking at a decent price here in Ontario. Thanks!
Show your husband this video, and tell him my husband though my 10k was a very reasonable budget, lol
@@YouCantEatTheGrass LOL. My husband listened unbelievingly from his chair as I watched the video. All I can say is you have a good one.
Cannot wait to be watching the progress in 3 years!
The first pick is going to be a big celebration! I just need to figure out extra cooler space between now and then, lol
Love the yellow peony. I’ve noticed this year that you haven’t been as sick as in prior years. Less Covid? More workers? Whatever, seeing you healthier is wonderful!
We've been really lucky this year to not be sick much over the summer. I think part of it is that our kids are getting older, so they are sick a lot less.
I’m purchasing “ canary brilliance “as my splurge peonies
I’m just starting to plant a peony patch ! I’m just planting 25 at a time! Not as noticeable as $10k purchase 😜
I keep in mind what I plant today future generations will enjoy🥰
Peonies are my FAVORITES! I added a few this year and moved some that I have been meaning to for years as they weren’t getting enough sun where the former gardener planted them in my current garden. If one day you decide to leave the flower growing business you can always dig up the peony roots and sell them, you will make your money back and then some!😊
I told my son, I was planting his inheritance, and that my grandkids would be the next in line to have to replant, lol
I hope you're still making videos in 5 yrs so we can see the peonies bloom!!!!
This is our new favorite video. Thank you for your enthusiasm and energy. We're in this for the long haul and can't wait to see fields of peonies in a few years!
What a great collection, I bet they will look gorgeous in a few years! I have recently fallen madly in love with Itoh peonies, they come in such unique colors and the apricot ones are especially beautiful. They're expensive, but I feel like I must have all of them!
I wanted a 'Julia Rose' Itoh peony. Found a big plant at our expensive garden center for $69! This fall, I found it for sale online in bare-root form for way, way less. That's when I learned there are even more gorgeous varieties.
Is care any different than old-fashioned peonies? I saw someone cut them to the ground at end of season.
No flower surpasses the beauty of peonies - not roses, not irises, not even snapdragons. And those are gorgeous. But peonies are in a class of gorgeousness all to themselves. Sorry. I can't choose just one. A great investment, Serina!
I agree - they are so decedent
I live in Florida but peonys are my favorite flower. Went camping to Alaska and just loved all the gardens with them. One lady at a campground gave me a bloom, a pretty white, and it lasted forever.
What a great person!! Glad I found you
I absolutely love Brother Chuck too. A couple more of my favourites are Moon Over Barrington and Nick Shaylor! You also need Colonel Owen Cousins, its a great pastel beige, and has breeding ties to Canada. I can't wait to see more of your peonies.
I love my candy stripe peony it only has a few stripes per bloom.Blooms end of may here in 6a.The scent is wonderful. The future of peonies on your land tickles my heart.❤
I'm dreaming of spring watching this! It's so cold and dark here and this is exactly what I needed!
Me too - I need to make videos like this in the winter, just so I have an excuse to look back at all the summer and flower pictures, and ignore the fact it's cold winter outside
Etched Salmon and Lemon Chiffon are the 2 peonies I splurged on, can't wait to see them bloom I hope.
Hey Serina- Class Act is a fav. Mine are around 12-15 years old now and produce 7-9 large blooms per stem. They also require support. Each plant produces 7+ stems. Also, continue to add the yellow variations, you will not regret it!! Zone 6b/7a here in southern Indiana. Home gardener! :) I
Ok … between you and Serena and Ian, I’m going to need some yellow peonies!
They are expensive but worth it!! More and more variations are being added each year. Yellow boy and yellow girl are great for cutting. And I am sure others are as well. Yellow peonies are very popular because there were none for so many years. Cheers!
Peonies are WELL worth the investment! 🥰
That is unless you live in the deep south of the USA....I was in my early 20s in the mid-80s, and I had to have a peony. I'm near 60 now. If I had listened to women my age who gardened when I was young, I would never have spent the money. I had a young girl tell me this summer that she was buying some peonies. I said, "Don't do it. It's just like purchasing a little future sadness for yourself." She said she was going to microclimate them and put buckets of ice on them, twice a month, in the winter. I thought the same thing. $ gone bye-bye 😂
@@stefkadank-derpjr1453 Great point. I live in zone 5b so it's not an issues here with growing peonies. But since peonies are "generally" only hardy in zones 3-8, I can see how they would be hard to grow in your deep south location. ♥
I agree!
@@budgetgardeningvita
And we in the north are envious of southern gardeners for the camelias and other plants we can't grow.
@@Edu_Kate That is so true! I would love to be able to grow both camelias as well as crepe myrtles.
Being just a home gardener I buy at least two plants or roots each year, Blush queen is top of my list this year it’s said to be rare and a prolific bloomer.
It doesn't take too many years before the garden looks spectacular that way. Good tip!
I have 60 varieties of peonies. Some of them are very well suited for cutting. At least that's what the breeder says. I have almost all the varieties that you, Serena, bought. Of course, the most suitable for cutting are lactiflora classics Sarah Bernhardt and Angel Chicks. I also really like Myrtle Gentry, Carnation Bouquet. From white- Bowl of Cream, Amalia Olson, Gardenia. A little expensive, but lovely Colonel Ow. Cousins. I had a bouquet of Sarah B. , Angel Chicks and Myrtle Gentry for a whole good week 👍
60!!! Wow I have peonies envy ;) Those are on my list for the next few years.
Oooohhh, I'm jealous! They must look so lovely all blooming together. It's so hard not to buy everything, lol
@@YouCantEatTheGrass Yes!))...... But I'm lazy enough 😉 to go somewhere to see the other people 's peopeony fields. So I planted a peony field at home on my little one)) a plot of land. And also a field of irises...tulips. But everything is small 😀
Watching this I immediately wanted to order some peony’s. I have 8 peony plants. I would love to have more. Anyway I am 66 and we had a large peony bush at my family home and it’s still alive! We also had a lilac bush (still there too). My parents liked the switches from it! LOL. Congrats on the amazing order.
67 here. I have ten peonies and that simply isn't enough. Ordering more to bloom at different times and extend the season.
I plan on replanting a lilac (another favorite) to a more prominent place. It has variegated foliage. I don't even care if it blooms. But it's towards the back and probably not getting enough sun so it looks stunted. 'Aucubaefolia'
I've planted a bunch of Itoh (pronounced ee-toe, named after Toichi Itoh who successfully hybridized them) peonies in my garden, and the new one I'm really looking forward to is the Yellow Crown variety. Itohs tend to be more expensive, so I'm not sure how feasible it is as a cut flower, but if you need a different yellow in your personal collection...!
A couple other beautiful Itohs are Canary Brilliants and All That Jazz - and there are so many more.
I hope you 2 will still make videos in 10 years.. And will make videos of peonies and lots of it❤️
Peonies are my most favorite flower. I can’t wait to see them in bloom
Peonies are definitely amazing 🥰. They’re a must have in our garden.
Festival Maxima Peonies is a beautiful white streaked with red flecks and they smell divine.
Pink Hawaiian coral is beautiful!!!💙
Nevermind they are all beautiful.
It was hard to choose, lol. I wanted all of the varieties
Love this video! My coral charm blooms change color as they age- so gorgeous on the plant to have different colored blooms at different stages of their maturity!
I LOVE Coral Charm, it’s absolutely gorgeous with the variations in color 😍
I have a coral charm already in the garden, and I love how the colour morphs. It's so unique
As a flower farmer, I'm getting 20-25 flowers to cut from each double peony now that they have reached 6 years old (while still leaving plenty of foliage for the plants health. On plants with single flowers I get 30+ flowers. So you will have LOTS of each color.
My Pink Hawaiian Coral were spectacular last year. And I say that having Coral Charm too.
Peonies are my very favorite flower.
Oh,Serena it's like Christmas morning!😄 So excited to see them bloom!I have been watching your channel from the beginning,I am too in Canada Ontario little North of Muskoka.I wish you and your family all the best for 2024.
What a terrific selection! Love your content, thank you so much!
I grow many peonies because they are my favourite flowers besides roses. I have singles, doubles, Itoh and tree peonies. My first Itoh and favourite is the large yellow Bartzella. I also grow Bowl of Beauty which is a large double herbaceous pink that doesn't need any support. Neither do the Itoh or tree peonies. Bonny
I love the itohs, but Ian would kill me if I started collecting them for the home garden - I spend too much money as it is, lol
@@YouCantEatTheGrass Maybe you would have spent 20 T instead of 10! Bonny
Each root seems to be bigger and more beautiful than the last. It really makes me want to throw rocks at the puny little early spring remainders I picked up for $7/each from a regional-to-me grower.
Lady, lady, lady! You started off with a good video panning around the store, with a view of 2 blue and white vases-flowerpots--??. I never saw you go back to those pots, why not? Back to video--I love all of your videos!! Keep on sending us these over all scans and close inspections and prices! Love 'em!!!❤😊
I love all the peonies!!! That red one at the beginning was exceptional! Creamy colors are one of my favorite, too!
Red is never my favorite in general, but a red peony is pretty special, lol
Dinner plate peony is a must have !!❤
I wish you good luck with your Flowers! 🌺🌺🌺 Greetings from Flowers Zone Albania 🇦🇱
What a glorious unboxing!
I've got a mystery peony that was planted by a previous owner of our home... Based on how close it is to the trunk of a very mature crepe myrtle tree & how massive the main root of the peony is, I'm sure it is old. Every year it tries to grow but it just doesn't have enough light or space so I dig the pieces I can & transplant them, one is finally getting big enough that it will hopefully bloom next spring *fingers crossed*
Make sure it gets full sun all day long and is only planted a couple of inches beneath the top of the soil when you replant. I had this issue with a couple and they just didn't bloom until I dug them out and planted it appropriately.
@@gardeningjunkie2267 I'm in zone 9B so growing peonies well is a challenge under the best of circumstances. I'm following all the best practices for cultivation in my zone. It is really just an issue of waiting for my tiny little transplants to size up enough to bloom & that takes several years considering most of them were one tiny little eye & a couple inches of root.
Looking fwd to future bouquets. White scented peonies are a favorite, but love all varieties!
Serina! Dont leave me hanging! ata the 28:05 mark you talked about a creamy yellow peony you wanted to purchase but didnt....what variety are you talking about? "Do Tell" LOL ( I had to do it") ....also do you have a dark pink magenta like colour peony? Such as Karl Rosenfield? blessings from Ontario :)
The yellow we bought last year was sunny girl. We have space still for about another 200, and there are some that I know I want, like Karl and Sarah bernhardt
I love peony roots!! I could look at each one of them one by one if you were to show each root division :) FYI - all the coral charm peonies will grow from ANY root devision , doesn't have to be an eye for them to start a new plant, all varieties of coral charm could be grown from a tiny peace of root, just gonna take longer, other peony varieties , especially hybrids need eye and /or piece of their old woody root to grow, so dont mess with them obviously , but you could divide half of your corals to double your crop easily right away !! there is a Russian peony enthusiast on youtube Lena Nova Peony , she actually has a ton of videos where she explains how to divide peony roots properly
Peonies are my FAVORITE flowers!
It makes me so happy to see someone else gushing about them, too.
I only have ten peonies in my suburban garden. I'm looking to add to that collection, but it's difficult to decide on varieties. So many choices...and I'm a Libra. 🥴
Of the varieties I have, 'Paula Faye' is #1 on my list, I have two. They're early so I have to look quick before they're finished. The display is breathtaking. I have a 'Do Tell' next to my driveway for about 20 years. It hasn't been as abundant in blooms lately and I am considering lifting it. Perhaps it's gotten buried under amendments and mulch. I have a "hedge" of peonies under my bedroom window. 'Gay Paree' and a similar style whose name escapes me. It's funny, I bought them from a peony farmer and told him the size of the space. I thought 5 plants should fit. He said, "No. 3 is enough." Wow! He was right. They grow as big as a shrub. I also bought 'Moonstone' variety because the farmer said that was his favorite. I stored that plant in my garage for ten years! I couldn't decide where to plant it. I'd bring it outside every summer to get some sun. Toward the end, it was a spindly single stem. I finally planted it 3 years ago. This year, oh my! It had 16 gorgeous white double blooms. Heavy blooms.
I always intend to harvest buds at the marshmallow stage to extend the season and you can miss it by one day. I'm in Minneapolis, Minnesota (recently rezoned to 5a) and we've had really hot springs and even hotter summers with little rain. The latter helps keep the mildew at bay.
I've always cut back the foliage at end of season, but this year didn't get around to it at my usual time. The fall color was spectacular. Deep russet red. In future, I won't be so hasty to clean up.
I have a couple blush/white peonies that came with the house so I don't know their names. They bloom at different times so they're probably different varieties.
I have a magenta that was gorgeous in the beginning, but neglect and weeds have diminished its beauty. I planned to move it this fall, again, timing. Next year. It sent a runner a couple feet away. I didn't know peonies could spread in that way.
I want to order plants now so I don't miss out. 'Angel Cheeks' is on the list. I'd heard about the fragrance. I'm thinking of trying 'Itoh' peonies to replace some out-of-control Ilex shrubs to shield a front patio area. I loke that peonies die back to the ground. Makes snow shoveling easier.
The honey gold looks so interesting. I am looking forward to seeing all the varieties and how they will turn out.
It will be fun to see the blooms next year
Peonyusa has an orange peony called Orange Victory
I have been watching you and your farm. My son is starting an organic vegi farm, and I am wanting to have a small flower farm. I'm picking up a lot from your teaching. Was going to ask why are you not growing peonies? I will be watching, very excited! How about dahlias?
We are looking to relocate from Florida to Tennesse. Love your farm ❤
The Sarah Bernhardt Peony is an old time peony that smells beautiful. Each bud on the root will be a stem or flower next year. So I would pick them. I don’t think it weakens the plant. However from having a flower farm maybe different rules from a home garden. Some of those roots had a lot of buds so the plant should be mature enough to flower. Definitely get with a florist and sell the peonies. Springtime is prime wedding and peony season. I plant sweet William too. In my area they both bloom at the same time. Looks very pretty together. I have do tell peony in my garden. Very distinct color and look. I have over 30 peony varieties in my garden in zone 7. You made good choices with what you picked.
exciting. would loved to have had a small tutorial on how to plant those roots. How deep? which end up? etc thx
Lots of great planting videos here on YT. Just search and you'll be overwhelmed by the number.
Now I want to plant some more.
Wow can't wait to see the field in bloom! Thinking I should've done that for my old age (now!) to fall back on for cutting. Always thought they bloomed too early before my market started...like tulips. Don't want to put in the money/effort into my small market farm if they bloom too early. I need to research this more...so glad for all the info. you guys are great.
Green Halo and Green Lotus 💚🌿
Gorgeous, Serina! Great choices!
You’re making me think that my two peonies are nowhere near enough!
If it makes you feel better, I planted 5 peonies when we first moved here, and this year I was able to pick 50 blooms off the plants to sell, and also have it covered in flowers for 3 weeks. So, in a few years, those 2 are going to be putting on an amazing show
I hope you get to choose your shipping date. In Alberta, we're usually under a few feet of snow already!
i feel like christmas all the peony its so exiting the golden honey yellow
barbie pink is a beauty and brother chuck heck i love them all i have been waiting for this video i love peony
I will be sticking around to see them in a few years!
I can't wait to see the bloom in person!
I love watching your excitement in the unboxings. 💕💕🎶🎶
It's better then Christmas!
😻@@YouCantEatTheGrass
So excited to see those beautifull peonies booms😊
Can't wait!
I think for the coming up year you should try growing a certain type of exotic fruit that no one eles has too so it can help bring more people into the flower too
Elsa Sass!! Wow!
Beautiful roots lead to amazing flowers, so excited for you! I'm glad I know they are already planted, it's cold outside...😅😊😅
The roots are expensive, but its like buying a year - and a year of growing is expensive too, lol
Waiting for the orange peony!!! Brother Chuck looks beautiful. I like the sweet smelling peonies. Not big on the pink. Would like to see the yellow! Thanks for sharing! Many blessings to you and your farm
I'm covering all my bases, all the colours!
I love all of them..❤❤
Fav is Do Tell. I like a good contrast as my first foray this year include Buckeye Belle & Bowl of Love. I also have Angel Cheeks and my white is Shirley Temple.
It's my favorite too! I can't wait to see it in person
Class Act is my fav 😍
I wish you did a master class about peonies! Last year I got excited about them from you video then and I bought like 10 plants bare root that I put on the ground past autumn here, I live in Argentina, south America. In my little not developed town they don't know much about plants even in the small kind of nurseries here. So I don't know much about growing them. What it means not to cut the flower if you do have one in the first year? Just to leave it in the ground to die by its own? Where I can find a list of the different peonies flowering in different times? Sorry! You got me so excited!!! ❤
It's tricky to find when they flower - but with some searching you can find if it is an early, mid or late blooming variety, and then they will be spaced by a week or so.
Flower farmers cut everything with long stems, and with a peony, to do that, you would cut off a lot of the plants leaves - which it needs to get energy for future years. So, I won't cut for the first 3 years or so, so that the plant can get strong and healthy. If I cut the flower off, with a tiny short stem, then it would be fine. But the best of all, is to take the buds off the plant, so that it doesn't put energy into blooming for those first few years.
Thank you so much!❤️❤️❤️
I don't think trends matter that much with peonies, considering how they look and smell. Beauty is beauty!
Me too! Even the most unpopular peony is going to be one of the most popular choices
Would love to see the creamy yellow ones you mentioned.
❤ looking forward ❤
I know you do cut flower arrangements. Have you ever thought of selling pots and hanging baskets. Start your annuals in the green house, by seeds and cuttings. Then make nice arrangements. Like a center plant then surround the bottom with petunias, super bells etc.
We don't have a heated greenhouse, and in our area, you need heat to be able to do hanging baskets. They also have some investment cost to them, in the pots, ect, which makes me nervous about having them at the self serve roadside stand, because they have a lit higher theft risk then cut flowers. Maybe in the future though
Wish you’d invest in big equipment to make your life easier. Getting more plants in would be great
Need MORE VIDEOS, please. ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Love peonies
Peony Itoh Orange Victory is an orange one!!
Cool! I'll have to check it out!
Just wondering where you purchased your peonies from …. I am from Ontario just starting a market garden, looking for wholesale suppliers.💐
Самый лучший пион всех времен и народов - Сара Бернар. В России его очень любят и покупают в первую очередь в любых количествах. Удачи и процветания вашей ферме. С любовью из России💕🇷🇺
I have plans to add 100 Sarah Burnhart, I just need to buy it from another supplier
Amazing collection. You are thinking long term. I love my pink peonies, which flower in a part shade setting. All your peonies look great - i think the coral ones looked the most unique. I think considering the time when they bloom, the pink, coral and white are your best bet. The red and maroon ones also are bright and good but probably not as useful for spring/ early summer bouquets.
🔥🔥🔥Can you pls tell us where purchased. i’m in US zone 5
Miss America, Ann Cousin, Bowl of Cream. Any of whites for florists. Old Faithful, all corals for flower shops
Pics of coral varieties are a bit misleading, they're shown right before petals fell of, they are much brighter. Love those. Of those which you dont have in this order I love mothers choice, old faithful. What else... owen cousins, obviously pastelegance and etched salmon but those are quite expensive. Light yellows like sunny girl, sunny boy, lemon chiffon i like theoretically - havent seen those in person.
What about tree pronies? Like rockii hybrids? Are they good for cut flowers?
How do you manage your Peony patch over your hot dry summer/autumn?
I hope you sell the roots too
Paeonia lactiflora 'Duchesse de Nemours' a white with pale yellow centers!
sorry- but won't these peonies reproduce over the years and need to be split? And, will they need to be tied up to hold the weight of the flowers? I am US- and our peonies bloom for 2 weeks and get so top heavy they fall over the MINUTE they start to open.
The Angel Cheeks look so cute!!
I saw a peony that was a double with a wine colour to it. So beautiful. The time it takes to come to where it's ready for picking gives you time to improve the soil add in nutrients so you get maximum blooms.
Exciting to see these as photos, waiting for the real blooms later.
If things go sideways, at least you can divide the roots later for any plants needing replacement or more of.
I definitely plan on getting these plants on a fertilizing routine. I just need to learn about that stuff first, lol. Flowers are very different from veggies, so I'm always learning
where did you buy all these Peony's? seller details please? Want to order for next fall . TIA
Gotta spend money to make money. 🌲💚🙃
Lol, its a lot of money, but I'm pretty confident that this invest will be easy to get back
Did you ever think of CSA? Might take the stress off you, soynds lije you have a good base of regular customers. Farmers markets can be extra.
$18/each?! Wowzers.
We tried to keep the list to peonies that were 15$ or less, but with taxes and shipping on top, the price gets pretty high. Luckily, they can outlive me and sell for a good price, but it was a big investment
Planting now?!?!
December?!?!
❤❤❤❤❤
Pietertje vriend Wagenaar. Little Peter friend out of Wageningen ( a town)
Fun!
When you have a big order like that, how much is shipping as a part of the total cost?
These large orders come on palates, and are usually 200-300. The peonies are heavy, so I think this might have been $350. Tax is a lot larger percentage, lol
❤ 😅
Where are the burgundy ones ❤😊
How do you get rid of all of the ants that they will have on them when they are picked?
I dip my flowers in water before I bring them in. But there are always hitchhikers.
